Uttarakhand CM meets Vice President in Nainital
Nainital (Uttarakhand) [India], June 27 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Haldwani, Nainital district on Friday. The Vice President was on a three-day visit to the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also presented him with the state's local products.
Ahead of this, addressing the 156th Founders' Day celebration at Sherwood College in Nainital, Dhankhar urged students to set goals beyond personal success and dedicate themselves to the nation and society.
He said, 'Don't have a narrow or self-centred goal, have a goal for society, for humanity, for the nation.'
He called on the youth to adopt the spirit of 'Nation always first' and uphold a sense of nationalism that is unconditional, saying it is the minimum expected of citizens of a country with 5,000 years of civilizational depth like Bharat.
'You will have to imbibe a spirit, Nation always first. We will have to subscribe to nationalism without qualification, unrestricted, because that is what Bharat, a unique nation with 5,000 years of civilizational depth, deserves minimum,' he added.
He said that accessibility and affordability of quality education are fundamentals for any democratic nation to achieve.
'Quality education, its accessibility and affordability are fundamentals for any democratic nation to achieve. Education is a gift of God. If you get a quality education, you are lucky. If you get this kind of education in a nation of 1.4 billion, you are privileged in the right sense. Education is a great equaliser. Equality in law or otherwise can be optimally and best secured only through education. Education hits very hard at inequities, injustice, and that's what you are going to do all your life', he added.
Dhankhar also urged parents not to impose their ambitions on their children, cautioning that such pressure could limit the nation's future in science, research, and innovation.
He said, 'Parenthood is the most important obligation you owe not only to your children but to the entire humanity. And so, please do not stress your children. Don't decide what their object in life is. If you decide, all of them will end up being in pursuit of money, in pursuit of power. Where would we have scientists? Where would we have astronomers? Where would we have people who define destiny for the entire globe?'
He said that Bharat is no longer just a country with potential but one that is steadily rising, with remarkable progress in infrastructure and the economy over the past decade.
He urged students to carry this momentum forward, stating that the goal of becoming a developed nation, 'Viksit Bharat', is not just a dream but a destination. (ANI)

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 28 (ANI): BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress over the Kolkata alleged gangrape case and said that West Bengal is not safe for women under the Mamata Banerjee government. 'Mamata Banerjee's government supports the rape of women in Bengal. The accused in the Kasba gangrape is an active member of Mamata Banerjee's party, Trinamool Congress. Mamata Banerjee runs and protects an army of goons in Bengal for her appeasement politics and political dominance. Bengal is not safe for women. Despite Mamata Banerjee being a woman chief minister, her thinking is anti-women,' Bhandari told ANI. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo-motu cognisance of the alleged gangrape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba area on June 25, with NCW member Archana Majumdar expressing outrage over the incident. Speaking to ANI, Majumdar said, 'It's shocking. As a mother, as a woman of West Bengal, I am very annoyed. We have taken suo-motu cognisance, we have asked DGP to answer within 72 hours in detail, including arrests, sections, crime scene examinations, medical examination, and everything...I will be meeting the victim today or tomorrow. I talked with the officer in charge of the concerned PS also. He reported that the victim has been sent to Calcutta National Medical College for medical examination. Three of the accused have been arrested already. Whatever action is being taken, my question is - why does it happen? Where is the security of women, of girl students?' BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also echoed similar sentiments, stating, 'Whenever a crime occurs in West Bengal, a TMC leader is found to be involved. The most evil and anti-social elements are in TMC. Holding the TMC flag seems to grant immunity from police action.' He further criticised the state's law and order situation, saying, 'Such an incident happening with a college student in broad daylight shows the poor law and order in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has taken the entire police administration to the Rath Yatra in Digha, as if there are no other pressing issues in Bengal.' On Wednesday evening, a female student was allegedly gang-raped inside a law college in Kolkata's Kasba. The police have arrested all three accused within 24 hours. The three accused, named as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), were former students or staff members of the same law college. According to the police, the accused named in the FIR will be produced before the A.C.J.M. of Alipore, South 24 Parganas, with a prayer to remand them to Police Custody for a proper investigation into the case. The alleged sexual assault took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on Wednesday within the law college premises. According to the official, one of the accused allegedly committed sexual assault, while the others were involved in the crime. The victim's family filed a police complaint against the accused, and the police have taken swift action in the matter. Two of the accused, Monojit Mishra and Zaib Ahmed, were arrested on Thursday, near Siddhartha Shankar Roy Sishu Udyan, close to Talbagan Crossing in Kolkata. Pramit Mukhopadhyay was arrested later the same night at his residence. The police have seized the mobile phones of all three accused. The official had visited the site and kept it under protection till they had done a forensic examination. They requested custody remand for further investigation. (ANI)

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP P Wilson on Friday said that a new membership drive campaign titled 'United Tamil Nadu' will be launched on July 1 by DMK President and Chief Minister MK Stalin. Speaking to reporters at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in Chennai, DMK MP said, 'In recent times, Tamil Nadu has been facing several injustices -- such as the non-recognition of the Keeladi excavations, imposition of Hindi, denial of educational funds, postponement of the national population census, denial of medical dreams for students through NEET, and infringement of our rights under the guise of delimitation. These are ongoing attacks on Tamil Nadu.' 'For every one rupee I pay as tax, we receive back only 26 paise. No proper compensation has been given for the damages caused by cyclones. The central government is trying to impose the National Education Policy and make Hindi a compulsory subject. They have even denied us our rightful share of education funding, for which we have approached the courts,' he added. Speaking further about the 'United Tamil Nadu' campaign, he said, 'This initiative aims to protect our land, language, and dignity. They don't want the world to know the historical significance of Tamil Nadu revealed through the Keeladi excavations. That's how deep their hatred toward Tamil Nadu runs.' The 'United Tamil Nadu' initiative emphasises that everyone in the state must come together and fight in unity. The goal is to enrol one crore (10 million) new members in 45 days through 68,000 field agents. The objective is to unite at least 30% of the people in every polling booth, the DMK leader said. The aim of 'United Tamil Nadu' is to reach every household in Tamil Nadu directly, urging them to participate in the campaign -- and to register them in the name of their choice. A special mobile application will be used for this. To support this, the party's tech team will receive state-level training on June 28 and 29, he added. He reiterated that the 'United Tamil Nadu' membership campaign will be officially launched by DMK President and Chief Minister M. K. Stalin through a press meet on July 1. Following that, district-level press meets will be held. On July 2, rallies will be conducted in 26 party districts. The campaign will conclude on August 11, DMK leader stated. (ANI)

"Welcomed with open arms, lots of love and friendship": Group of representatives from Montana hail study visit to India
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): The national capital is hosting ten representatives from the American state of Montana, who are in India on a study visit. The Americans praised their experience in the country and hailed India, calling their time here 'magical'. While speaking to ANI, Jason Smith, member of the board of directors of the Montana World Affairs Council, said, 'I've had the good fortune to visit India twice before. I've been eager to come back, and coming back with this group of young people and seeing it through their eyes is very special. I've always found my time in India to be magical. The people are warm and wonderful. The sights and the sounds are so unique. There's no place like it on planet Earth.' He noted that being in India with a group of eager students has made the experience much more special. Smith said, 'To be in this place with so many warm and wonderful people, with an eager group of young people, has made it just that much more special for me. There are so many wonderful things about living in Montana in the United States. It's beautiful, it's rural. There are many open spaces, but we do not have good Indian food. For someone like me, who loves to eat good food, being in Delhi and sampling some of the finest Indian dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a real treat'. Jason Smith is one of a group of ten representatives from Montana, comprising seven high school students and three chaperones (from World Affairs Council, Montana), who are on a study visit to India. Clara Depuy, while speaking to ANI, mentioned that she is looking forward towards exploring the fauna and flora of India, which is vastly different from that of Montana. Upon her visit, she highlighted, 'I've already learned so much just about expectation versus reality. Coming to India, I did not have anything to expect, but I had these kinds of preconceived notions just from what we learn in school or what we see from over on the other side of the world. And I think that's important to know that not everything is always exactly as it seems from the media, or just what you see on the outside'. Lara Larson, a graduate from Lockwood High School in Montana, told ANI, ' It's been really, really exciting to be able to come to a place that's so wildly different from something that I'm used to. So many flavours, so many colours, it's been so exciting to experience. I'm really, really excited for the Taj Mahal... I'm also really excited to experience the culture and learn more about the religion, especially. We read Siddhartha in our world class this year, and it felt very well timed with this trip because I really enjoyed that book, and I'm really looking forward to talking to people and getting to learn more about how people live their lives' Emily Brandenburg told ANI that reading about Siddhartha made her feel connected to India because it was her first experience with a 'non-Westernised version of religion'. She expressed enthusiasm for Bollywood and the Indian film industry. Alli DePuy, a teacher, told ANI, 'We have been welcomed with open arms, with lots of love, with delicious food and friendship.' The Consulate General of India selected the delegation in Seattle after their outstanding participation in EconoQuest 2025 at Montana State University and Academic WorldQuest 2025 at the University of Montana in Missoula.
