‘Harry still doesn't like being controlled': Royal family warned Prince Harry ‘won't change' after olive branch

Sky News AU28-07-2025
A Sussex insider has warned the royal family that Prince Harry 'won't change' his ways amid reports the Duke of Sussex is planning to sit down with the King.
Speculation the rift between Harry and King Charles is finally starting to mend has ramped up in recent weeks after five years of public betrayals by the Sussexes.
A fortnight ago, Harry's new chief communications officer Meredith Maines and UK-based PR rep Liam Maguire were photographed meeting with the King's top aide, Communications Secretary Tobyn Andreae, near Clarence House.
The meeting, first revealed by The Mail on Sunday, reportedly had "no formal agenda" but there were "things both sides wanted to talk about".
According to an insider who spoke to the same outlet, the meeting marked a turning point for the Sussexes, who have often been accused of timing publicity stunts to overshadow royal occasions.
Harry and Meghan's penchant for conveniently timing their cash-grabs with royal events began in the months following Queen Elizabeth II's death in 2022.
Since then, scarcely a Trooping the Colour or royal tour has gone by without Harry or Meghan dropping a media grenade on the same day.
'Before that meeting between their aides in London, conflicts of interest or clashes of publicity were relished and even perhaps encouraged by the Sussexes,' the insider told The Mail On Sunday.
'Now, Harry has shifted into a new way of thinking.
'The tone is now all about 'deconflicting' with his family.
'That's why his household agreed to draw up a 'grid' of his activities and share them with Buckingham Palace, and by extension with Kensington Palace.'
However, the source warned Buckingham Palace that Harry's 'olive branch' did not indicate the Duke of Sussex is open to working directly with Buckingham Palace.
'Harry still doesn't like being controlled by the Royal machinery, and that won't change,' the source said.
The report comes after another Sussex insider told Woman's Day that Harry is prepared to reconcile with his father without Markle's support.
'(Harry) reluctantly accepts his family hate (Meghan) so there's no sense involving her in peace talks because they'd turn him down flat if he were to try,' the source said.
'So Harry's new tactic is to do this solo. He's willing to fly to the UK, set up mediation meetings, whatever they'll agree to.'

Beef rises for Prince Harry after Andrew says marriage to Meghan would not last

'To Di For' podcast host Kinsey Schofield discusses allegations of Prince Harry and Prince Andrew having a fist fight back in 2013, and Prince Andrew reportedly making derogatory comments about Meghan Markle. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been in contact with The Daily Mail after it republished allegations made in Andrew Lownie's new book 'Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York'. 'According to Lownie, Andrew told his marriage to Meghan would not last more than a month and accused his nephew of going bonkers for not doing any due diligence into her past,' Ms Schofield told Sky News host Rita Panahi. 'He openly accused Meghan of being an opportunist and thought she was too old for Harry, adding that his nephew is making the biggest mistake ever. 'The source said Harry later told Prince William he hated Andrew.'

Oasis ‘shocked' after man fatally falls from upper level at Wembley Stadium concert

Oasis has spoken out after a man fatally fell from the upper tier at Wembley Stadium during their sold-out show. 'We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night,' band members Liam and Noel Gallagher said in a statement obtained by Page Six. 'Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.' Representatives for Wembley Stadium and Metropolitan Police did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment. The tragic incident took place on Saturday night local time as the 'Wonderwall' hitmakers played to a sold-out crowd in London. Police and medics showed up at the arena around 10.19pm local time in response to reports of a man in his 40s being injured after falling from a significant height, per BBC. According to a spokesperson for the police department, the man was pronounced dead at the scene after he 'was found with injuries consistent with a fall'. Police also said they 'believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage'. Wembley Stadium also responded to the incident in a statement, saying that medics, police and the London Ambulance service attended to the man. 'Despite (medics) efforts, the fan very sadly died,' it said in the statement obtained by BBC. 'Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers.' The band's Sunday concert went ahead as planned.

San Antonio Aquarium: Mother's terror as giant octopus grabs child and won't let go

A family outing ended in terrifying circumstances after a massive octopus latched onto a young boy and climbed outside its water tank while wrapping itself around the child. The six-year-old was innocently interacting with the sea creatures above an open-top pool when the octopus grabbed him by the arm, suctioned itself to his torso and would not let go. Staff and onlookers at the San Antonio Aquarium in Texas rushed to assist the child, and it reportedly took three adults at least five minutes to physically remove the tentacles, leaving the youngster severely bruised on the arm and upper body. The child's mother, Britney Taryn, said the incident, which occurred during a visit by her family on July 14, happened when the giant Pacific octopus grabbed her son Leo's arm while he was hovering over the touch tank. Ms Taryn released a TikTok video saying they had previously visited the attraction and engaged with the same octopus without issue. 'My son is very level-headed when it comes to animals, so when he had his arm in there, and he starts saying, 'Mom, it's not letting me go — and way too calmly — 'I'm like, 'Oh, okay.' So I'm helping him get down from the step and trying to pull him away from the octopus, and that octopus is not letting go,' Ms Taryn said. 'The octopus starts coming out of the tank, and the reason we don't have pictures or videos of this is because my friend was also freaking out.' Images released on social media show the young boy's arms covered in deep bruises caused by the Octopus's suction cups. The San Antonio Aquarium has since posted a social media video explaining the bruising these animals can inflict once they attach themselves to other animals or humans, that can last between seven to 14 days. 'So there's around 200 suction cups per arm. And as they grow ... they will actually shed their suction cup,' an aquarium employee said in the clip. The aquarium added that the giant Pacific octopus has the ability to lift weights of over 300 kilograms. According to PEOPLE , Ms Taryn has attempted to engage with the aquarium and is campaigning for safer and more comfortable living conditions for the animal, as well as others in similar situations. She added that she asked the San Antonio Aquarium to formally document the incident, and to provide an accessible explanation of the aquarium's safety protocols for when visitors interact with animals. In a social media video she claimed that she had not heard back from the Texas-based venue.
