Rob Riggle, Jordana Brewster to star in The Pirate King
According to the entertainment news outlet Deadline, the film is written and directed by Josh Plasse.
It is based on a story by Brev Moss inspired by the exploits and adventures of real-life pirate Captain Todd Willis.
Riggle will essay the role of a Marine veteran struggling with PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) and addiction, who discovers unforeseen redemption upon joining a group of pirate reenactors. Giving him a chance to fight for custody of his daughter and rebuild the life he thought was lost forever.
The 55-year-old actor, who has previously been a Marine officer, said he is honoured to be a part of the film.
"I have seen the hope and struggle that many veterans across the country experience in this script, and I'm honored to be part of this film to share their story," he said in a statement.
Brewster, 45, called it a "privilege" to join the project. "It is a privilege to be a part of this project. Josh wrote a beautiful screenplay with humor and heart which highlights the need to support our Veterans.," she said.
Plasse said, "'The Pirate King' is a love letter to Virginia Beach and the community I grew up in. As the son of a Navy SEAL, I've seen the cost of service up close, and this film captures the harsh reality of Veteran assimilation while also exploring the communal nature of pirate re-enacting.
"We promised ourselves we would only make this film if we felt it could truly honor and give back to the Veteran community. The moment Rob signed on, I knew we had something authentic that would accomplish this goal," he added.
The upcoming film is produced by Morning Moon's Ethan Lazar, Kyle Owens, Austen Rydell and Billie Lourd, Traction's Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek and Pine Bay Pictures' Brev Moss.

Nandotsav rituals mark Lord Krishnas birth at temples in Mathura, Vrindavan
Mathura (UP), Aug 17 (PTI) Temples in Mathura and Vrindavan on Sunday reverberated with festivities as they celebrated Nandotsav, a celebration marking the joy on Lord Krishna's birth held a day after Janmashtami. Gyanendra Kishor Goswami, a priest at the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan, said expressions of joy form an integral part of devotion in the Brijbhoomi. 'A mixture of curd and turmeric is used to symbolise infant Krishna's mischief. In a ritual known as 'dadhikandha', this mixture is playfully thrown on the devotees," Goswami said. During the celebrations, toys, clothes, jewellery and money were flung from the sanctum sanctorum for the devotees to collect as 'prasad', a tradition commemorating Nand Baba's delight at Lord Krishna's birth, he added. Earlier in the day, a 'Mangl Aarti' was performed at the Banke Bihari temple after the ceremonial 'Mahaabhishek'. At the Shri Krishna Janmasthan in Mathura, the Bhagwat Bhavan was decorated as Nand Bhawan, which echoed with chants of 'Nand ghar anand bhayo, jai Kanhaiya Lal ki' along with devotional songs. Kapil Sharma, secretary of the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan, said toys, clothes, sweets and utensils were distributed among the devotees as prasad. Similar rituals were held at Vrindavan's Sapt Devalaya. At the Dwarkadhish temple, the deities were adorned as Nand Baba and Ma Yashoda. 'The festival reflects the joy of Krishna's parents at his birth. Items are distributed to the devotees on this occasion to share the happiness," Rakesh Tiwari, the temple's media and legal advisor, said. Rs 90L in subsidies, but artisans still struggle with rising costs

Morajkar said the survey to identify PoP idol sales began on Aug 8, and so far, GHRSSIDC's inspection has flagged none. He said that the inspection will continue until Aug 24. 'Local mud clay idols are the customer's first choice, due to our awareness campaigns. The Shadu Mati and coconut fibre idols from Maharashtra are in demand, but not as much as the local clay ones,' Morajkar told TOI . GHRSSIDC offers a subsidy of Rs 250 per idol for up to 250 idols to the local idol makers. As of July 2025, GHRSSIDC received 367 local vendor applications for registration. In 2024, 475 vendors received subsidies totalling Rs 90.5 lakh on the sale of 45,248 idols, Morajkar said. Pernem, Sattari, and Bicholim talukas have the highest concentration of traditional idol makers in Goa. 'Earlier, we used to get the Chikal Mati at Rs 20,000 for a 10m truck. Now, the prices have risen to Rs 25,000,' said Bicholim sculptor Durgaram Shet. Local artisans allege the PoP idol ban is not strictly enforced. The clay idols are heavier, with rich colours being another distinguishing feature. Umakant Poke, a third-generation sculptor from Morjim, said that because certain vendors sell PoP idols, local sculptors catch negative attention from handicraft officials. Tehsildar suspended for singing Bollywood song while seated in official chair
Latur, Aug 17 (PTI) A tehsildar from Maharashtra has been suspended after he was filmed singing a Bollywood song while seated in his official chair at his send-off function following transfer, officials said on Sunday. According to a viral video, Prashant Thorat passionately belts out 'yara teri yari ko' from 1981 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Yaarana', with those around him clapping in sync. The board behind Thorat shows 'taluka magistrate'. Thorat, who was posted in Umri in the Nanded district, was transferred to Renapur in neighbouring Latur and relieved on July 30. He took charge of his new posting the same day. Both districts are part of the Marathwada division. On August 8, the Umri tehsil office organised a send-off event for Thorat. During this programme, Thorat sang the Kishore Kumar chartbuster 'yara teri yari ko' in the presence of the staff. However, Throat's musical performance found its way to social media, triggering sharp reactions, with many calling the behaviour inappropriate for someone holding a responsible government position, an official said. After learning about the controversy, the Nanded collector submitted a report to higher authorities, stating that Thorat's conduct had tarnished the image of the administration and violated the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979, the official said. Divisional Commissioner of Revenue Jitendra Papalkar, who is based in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, acted on the report and ordered Thorat's suspension on Saturday, the official said.
