'Sir David and Lady Posh': Beckham to finally be awarded knighthood by King Charles after monarchy denied him honour for more than a decade
David Beckham will finally be awarded a knighthood by King Charles after the monarchy denied him the honour for more than a decade.
The former British football star, 50, is set to be knighted on the King's Birthday Honours list next week, the Sun reported on Thursday.
Beckham will become known as Sir David Beckham, while his wife, former Posh Spice Victoria Beckham, will be referred to as Lady Beckham.
The star is understood to be one of about 1000 Britons who received honours in the King's Birthday list this year.
Charles sends letters inviting recipients to accept the award weeks in advance, and Beckham dropped a major hint he received his last month.
The clue came as the tattoed sportsman was seen chatting with Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.
"Your Majesty, it's so nice to see you," Beckham, who has struck up a friendship with the King over their shared horticulture passion, said.
After warmly shaking Beckham's hand, the King asked the star, who celebrated his 50th in May, if he received his gift.
"You got it, didn't you?" the King asked.
Beckham beamed as he replied: "It was incredible. Thank you, it was very kind."
The telling exchange sparked speculation Charles' mystery gift to Beckham was his sought-after honours letter.
Beckham has reportedly been angling for a knighthood from the King this year after previously being snubbed during Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
However, he once again failed to make it on Charles's New Year Honours list in January.
While the ex-England captain missed out, his showbiz colleague Stephen Fry and old football pal Gareth Southgate were awarded.
In 2017, leaked emails revealed Beckham's seething disappointment at being continually snubbed for a knighthood.
In the emails, which were sent to a member of Beckham's then-publicity team, the sports star hit out at the honours committee and called them "unappreciative c***s" for refusing to grant him the knighthood.
'I expected nothing less (than a knighthood),' Beckham wrote.
'It's a disgrace, to be honest, and if I was American, I would have (sic) got something like this 10 years ago."
The star's repeated failure to be knighted came despite him having been previously awarded an OBE by Elizabeth II in 2003.
However, it was Beckahm's finances abroad and alleged tax avoidance that reportedly hindered his chances of securing the honour.
That and the star's purchase of a seven-bedroom home in London's Holland Park for $40 million and the Beckhams' spendthrift lifestyle reportedly led the Honours Committee to deny him a knighthood.
In 2024, rumours the father-of-four was once again trying to woo the honours committee went into overdrive after he announced two new charitable endeavours with the royal family.
Beckham became an ambassador for The King's Foundation in June, and the following October, he assisted Prince William in raising funds for the London Air Ambulance.
Over the last 18 months, Beckham's friendship with Charles has blossomed, and the sports star gifted the monarch a pot of his homemade honey at the British Fashion Council awards in May 2023.
The celebrity was even said to have cut ties with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to strategically help him receive knighthood.
'The Beckhams have decided this brand is just too toxic for them and they might align themselves with the royal family,' royal reporter Sarah Hewson told TalkTV in 2023.
'Because ultimately, you can't be on both sides in this trans-Atlantic spa.'

The six major swipes Meghan Markle took at the royal family up until June
Meghan Markle stepped down as a working member of the British royal family more than five years ago, but she continues to take brutal swipes at the firm. In fact, the Duchess of Sussex has publicly made no less than six jabs at her husband Prince Harry's family this year, and it's only June. Meghan's return to Instagram on New Year's Day, her first time back on social media since 2018, provided the main platform for her many prods. The Duchess's Netflix lifestyle cooking show, With Love, Meghan, and her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, served as her accomplices. Here's a look back at ten times Meghan made a not-so-subtle stab at her estranged in-laws this year. Passionately parched In February, Meghan unveiled the launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, previously American Riveria Orchard, through an Instagram video. The Duchess suggested the firm previously prevented her from sharing her passions during her time as a working royal. "Cat's out of the bag," Meghan, who cut a casual figure in jeans, said in the clip. "I'm shocked we've been able to keep this a secret for so long." Meghan said those who followed her axed lifestyle blog The Tig in 2014 would know she has "always loved cooking and crafting and gardening". "This is what I do, and I haven't been able to share it in the same way for the past few years, but now, I can," she said. Cryptic contempt All eight episodes of Meghan's awaited lifestyle series With Love, Meghan debuted on Netflix on March 4 and appeared to be riddled with swipes. The Duchess's first reference to her exit from royal life came in the first episode as she introduced her first guest, makeup artist Daniel Martin. '(Daniel) has just been in my life for the before, during and after , shall we say,' Meghan said cryptically. Free from constraint While the ex-working royal appeared to steer clear from directly slamming the royal family in her show, viewers were quick to find small clues in the episodes about the Duchess's current feelings towards her in-laws. In one episode, the Duchess appeared to hint at her frustration towards the constraints of her former life and suggested she lacked 'creativity' during her brief stint as a working royal. 'I just want to raise a glass to you guys. This feels like a new chapter that I'm so excited that I'm able to share, and I've been able to learn from all of you," she said. 'And here we go, there's a business! All of that is part of that creativity that I've missed so much.' In the trenches In April, Meghan opened up about the early days of her relationship with Harry in her first-ever podcast appearance with friend Jamie Kern Lima. The Duchess used the moment to make a jab at the media intrusion the couple endured when they publicly confirmed their relationship in 2016. She claimed she and the Duke were "in the trenches" in those early days. "You have to imagine, at the beginning, it's all butterflies – but then we immediately went into the trenches together," she told Kern Lima on the The Jamie Kern Lima Show. "Right out of the gate, like six months into dating." Sky News presenter Gabriella Power discussed the moment with To Di For Podcast host Kinsey Schofield, who called the characterisation "absurd" and "over-the-top". Working woes In an interview with the New York Times in April, Meghan appeared to make another dig at the firm as she responded to a question about work. "I need to work, and I love to work," the Duchess said of why she continues to put herself in the public eye despite facing criticism. Prince Harry's wife said she had worked from the age of thirteen, only stopping when she became engaged to Prince Harry in 2016 and quit her job as an actress. Vexed over visions In the seventh episode of her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, Prince Harry's wife was joined by Cassandra Morales Thurswell, founder of the beauty brand Kitsch, and the pair discussed all things business. They covered "how grit, intentional design, and a scrappy mindset were essential in transforming a humble start into a thriving global business". Speaking about balancing motherhood and business, Meghan appeared to take a swipe at the monarchy and her short stint as a working royal. 'Before I was a mum, I'm going to give a speech with a baby on my hip. I had a whole vision,' she said. 'Then you fast forward, granted I had a lot of external things happening by the time I had both pregnancies and (both) babies. 'But it was not the way (that) I envisioned it."

Rita Ora's new music celebrates her 'sexuality'
Rita Ora's new music is about celebrating her "sexuality". The British pop star has just dropped her sizzling summer single Heat - the music video for which goes live at 5pm BST Friday (06.06.25) - and has explained that she wanted to embrace her womanhood and be "carefree and fun" after getting deep about married life to filmmaker spouse Taika Waititi on last album, You and I. Rita, 34, told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'I wanted to really celebrate my sexuality and the way I am as a woman. 'My last album was so different, it was about my love life and getting married. 'But with this next lot of music I wanted it to be so carefree and back to how I was coming up in the industry. 'I wanted to celebrate everything I have become. 'It's not super deep, just fun.' The 'Hot Right Now' hitmaker has been living in married bliss with Taika, 49, for three years now, and she insists she has never had a "type" and encourages her single pals to be open to everyone. She gushed: "I feel in a really great happy place right now." Rita added: 'I have never really had a type, I have never really thought of it like that. 'It's always been about the person. 'I've never cancelled anyone out as they don't fit my perfect list of what I think's perfect. 'You don't really know until you meet someone who takes you by surprise. Being open may surprise you. "That would be my advice. 'It's helped a lot of my friends and now I see them and they are really happy, but admit they'd have never gone for that person.' Stream Heat now on all major platforms.
