Shafaq News – Baghdad
On Sunday, the European Union commemorated 11 years since ISIS's genocide against Iraq's Yazidi community, urging renewed efforts for justice and accountability.
In a statement, the EU Delegation to Iraq condemned the 2014 massacre in Sinjar, where thousands were executed and more than 7,000 women and children were abducted and enslaved, noting that 'some young women were only recently reunited with their families.'

The EU reaffirmed its support for Iraq's sovereignty and social diversity, describing the Yazidis as an 'integral part' of the country's social fabric. However, it cautioned that insecurity and lack of essential services still prevent many displaced Yazidis from returning home.
The delegation called on both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to advance accountability for ISIS crimes across all affected communities and to fully implement the 2020 Sinjar Agreement, which seeks to remove unauthorized armed groups and reestablish official governance in the district.

UN Security Council to meet on Gaza Occupation

Shafaq News – New York The United Nations Security Council is set to convene an emergency session on Friday to discuss Israel's decision to occupy the Gaza Strip, following requests from several member states. The Israeli plan has drawn widespread Arab and international condemnation. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the plan as a 'dangerous escalation.' Palestinian Ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, stated that the emergency session would be held to 'halt Israel's decision to take control of Gaza,' emphasizing that this contradicts international law, and the international community must act swiftly.' Earlier, Israel's security cabinet approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to establish military control over Gaza City, a move that has sparked sharp criticism from opposition leaders and heightened concerns over the fate of hostages.

'Our forces successfully thwarted an attack on one of our positions in Al-Jazrat, Deir Ezzor's countryside. An armed group attempted to infiltrate via the Euphrates and fired an RPG. Our forces responded immediately - clashes broke out briefly before the attackers fled,' the SDF said in a statement, adding 'no casualties reported among our forces.' The SDF did not identify the group that carried out the attack. The US-backed force has been engaged in a series of clashes this month with both Damascus-aligned forces and the Islamic State (ISIS) in separate events. On Wednesday, two SDF members were killed in an ISIS attack in Deir ez-Zor province. On Monday, the SDF accused factions affiliated with Damascus of launching an attack on their positions in Syria's northern Aleppo province. A day earlier, the SDF and Damascus traded blame for an assault in the city of Manbij, also in the north of the country. The flare-up between the SDF and Damascus is straining an integration deal signed in March by Syria's interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi. The agreement aims to fold the SDF into the Syrian state military structure, recognize the Kurds as an integral part of Syria, implement a nationwide ceasefire, and enable the return of displaced Syrians to their hometowns. Talks on implementing the agreement have stalled for several reasons, including the SDF insisting on integrating into the Syrian army as a unit while Damascus wants them to do so as individuals.

Netanyahu rebukes Berlin over arms ban, denies Gaza takeover

Shafaq News – Middle East On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voiced disappointment over German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's decision to impose an arms embargo on Israel. In a post on X, Netanyahu argued that Germany contradicted support for Israel's 'just war against Hamas,' which he described as responsible for 'the most horrific attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.' He also dispelled claims that Israel intends to permanently control Gaza, adding that 'Israel's goal is not to take over Gaza, but to free Gaza from Hamas and enable a peaceful government to be established there.' France and Canada warned the move would worsen the humanitarian crisis and jeopardize hostage safety, while the UN reaffirmed Gaza's status as part of Palestine.
