Jeff Bezos' daily diet: From Octopus to nostalgic McDonald's

Time of India16-07-2025
Jeff Bezos may be one of the richest and most influential figures on the planet, but when it comes to food, his tastes range from the extravagant to the unexpectedly relatable. While he now commands a vast empire spanning e-commerce, space travel, and philanthropy, Bezos still enjoys the simple pleasures of a diner breakfast or a fast-food burger.
Yet, he's also known to start his day with a plate of octopus and end it with high-end Chinese cuisine. Whether it's pancakes made from a Betty Crocker box or plant-based protein innovations backed by millions, Bezos' diet reflects both his grounded upbringing and global ambitions. Here is a look at what the Amazon founder eats in a day.
Jeff Bezos eats Octopus and yoghurt for breakfast
Forget cereal or toast. Jeff Bezos prefers to shake up his morning routine with something far more unconventional — breakfast octopus.
Alongside a poached egg and a side of green garlic yoghurt, this protein-rich, ocean-inspired meal is paired with a strong cup of coffee. The unusual breakfast gained widespread attention after Bezos reportedly ordered it during a high-stakes 2010 business meeting, where he used the octopus metaphor to describe a bold acquisition.
This moment not only reflected his adventurous palate but also his willingness to embrace the unknown in both food and business.

While many might shy away from such a dish, it has become an iconic detail of Bezos' daily life.
Classic American diner fare
Despite his billionaire status, Bezos has never abandoned his love for all-American comfort food. After the landmark launch of Blue Origin's reusable rocket in January 2025, he marked the achievement not with champagne but with pancakes, eggs, and sausage at a local Florida diner. Surrounded by his team and fiancée, the Amazon founder appeared relaxed and grounded, interacting kindly with staff and patrons alike.
It was a scene that felt surprisingly normal — a reminder that behind the wealth and headlines, Bezos still finds joy in the simplicity of a classic American breakfast.
Sunday pancakes with family and friends
Sunday mornings in the Bezos household are dedicated to family and familiarity. A firm believer in tradition, Bezos prepares pancakes from a Betty Crocker mix for his four children every week. Despite his culinary consistency, he still jokingly relies on the box instructions, as shared by fiancée Lauren Sanchez.
Over the years, this ritual has extended beyond family, with Bezos flipping pancakes for celebrity guests like Ciara and Russell Wilson.
These gatherings, often shared on social media, paint a picture of a man who cherishes togetherness and uses food as a bridge between his private life and his public persona.
Fast food nostalgia
Before Amazon, before Blue Origin, there was McDonald's. Bezos' first-ever job was flipping burgers at the Golden Arches, and that early connection still holds a place in his heart — and on his plate.
In 2022, he posted a photo of himself enjoying a McDonald's burger, reflecting on the job that marked the beginning of his work ethic. That nostalgic indulgence reminds us that even a billionaire can crave a quick, satisfying bite from a fast-food chain.
It's not just a burger to him; it's a symbol of where he started, and perhaps a grounding force in a fast-moving life.
Pizza and the two-pizza rule
Pizza plays both a personal and professional role in Jeff Bezos' life.
On the personal side, he's a clear fan, once enjoying a visit to Italy's famed Sorbillo pizzeria, where he received a custom pie with his name baked into it. Professionally, pizza has been central to one of Amazon's most famous productivity philosophies — the two-pizza rule. This simple but effective rule advises that no meeting should involve more people than could be fed with two pizzas.
It encapsulates Bezos' preference for lean teams, streamlined communication, and efficient problem-solving — all fueled by the universal appeal of pizza.
Plant-based proteins and the future of food
While Bezos may enjoy rich and hearty meals, he is also investing in a more sustainable food future. Through his Bezos Earth Fund, he has pledged 60 million dollars to support global initiatives that promote the production and consumption of plant-based proteins. The "Beans Is How" campaign aims to double bean consumption worldwide by 2028, emphasising the nutritional, economic, and ecological benefits of legumes.
Bezos' push for climate-conscious eating is more than a diet choice — it's a strategic move to reshape food systems and reduce dependence on environmentally damaging meat industries. Beans, lentils, and nuts are the protein of tomorrow, and Bezos wants them on everyone's plate.
Peking duck and upscale Chinese cuisine
Though he supports plant-based innovation, Bezos also has a taste for indulgent meat dishes. In 2024, he was spotted dining at Tropical Chinese, a modest but beloved restaurant in Miami.
His choice? The Peking duck — a rich and flavorful delicacy served with crisped skin and sweet sauce. Priced at $78, the dish is far from extravagant by billionaire standards but still speaks to Bezos' appreciation for authenticity and cultural variety.
Despite the attention he draws, reports describe him as a gracious diner who values good food and genuine experiences — whether in a Michelin-starred kitchen or a strip-mall gem.
From breakfast octopus to pancakes and Peking duck, Jeff Bezos' daily diet reflects the many dimensions of his personality — ambitious, nostalgic, innovative, and indulgent. It's a culinary journey that spans continents, traditions, and philosophies, capturing the essence of a man who never does anything halfway, especially when it comes to what's on his plate.

With virtual hearings becoming norm, e-libraries a necessity: CJI Gavai

1 2 Nagpur: As virtual hearings and digital legal research become the new normal, Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai underscored the growing importance of e-libraries while inaugurating the Adv TR Gilda Memorial e-Library at the Amravati District and Sessions Court on Saturday. "E-libraries are no longer a luxury, they are a necessity," Gavai said at a function hosted by the Amravati District Bar Association (ADBA) at Sipna College of Engineering. "The legal profession has undergone a rapid digital shift. Lawyers, especially the younger generation, need instant access to updated judgments, legal literature, and reference material. This facility addresses those needs," he said. CJI Gavai, who had been recently hospitalized, said he chose to travel to Amravati against medical advice to witness the e-library come alive. "It was a personal moment of pride," he said, recalling his close ties with Gilda, in whose memory the facility has been constructed. Gavia also urged legal professionals to incorporate the digital library into their everyday work, citing the Marathi adage 'Vachal tar Vachaal' (those who read, survive). "The internet has changed the way we work in court. E-resources must be used not just for convenience, but as a professional habit." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pierce Brosnan's Wife Lost 120 Pounds - This Is Her Now Undo Supreme Court Justice Atul Chandurkar, Justices Anil Kilor and Pravin Patil, district judge Sudhakar Yarlagadda, and members of the legal fraternity were present at the event. Mufti for alternative plan to avoid razing of mosques

Varanasi: As the process of widening of Dalmandi Road in Varanasi gains momentum, Mufti-e-Banaras Maulana Abdul Batin Nomani has written an open letter to the President, the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and top brass of various opposition parties seeking an alternative route to avoid demolition of six mosques and the centuries old busy market. Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's instructions to officials on July 17 to ensure the execution of Dalmandi Road widening project, and the financial and administrative approval by the state cabinet on July 22 for easy access to Gate 4 of Kashi Vishwanath Dham from Nai Sadak, the executing agency, public works department (PWD), started demarcation of 184 identified buildings. The project, worth Rs 215.88 crore, aims to convert the 650-metre-long Dalmandi, a narrow street replete with bottlenecks, into a 17.4-metre-wide passage. PWD officials said that the process of examining documents to determine who possesses the areas in identified buildings and their ownerships had started. This will be followed by the valuation of properties and beginning of negotiations for purchase or acquisition. In an open letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Nomani said, "Dalmandi is a historical and vibrant area of the city that houses a major commercial hub of Purvanchal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pirates Climb Aboard Cargo Ship - Watch What The Captain Did Next Tips and Tricks Undo For years, people from diverse social, cultural, and religious backgrounds have engaged in business activities here in harmony." "The livelihoods of nearly 10,000 families are directly and indirectly linked to this area. The project will lead to the demolition of hundreds of shops, houses, and waqf mosque sites. Efforts should be made to explore an alternative route to avoid the demolition of six mosques and the centuries-old busy market," Nomani said. "Dalmandi area is also an excellent example of communal harmony. It is not only commercially important but also the birthplace and workplace of great figures in India's literature, art, and culture. Demolition of mosques will not only violate constitutional and religious sentiments but also create insecurity and anger among the country's minority communities," he said, demanding suspension of the project claiming that the High Court had granted a temporary stay to mosques and building owners concerned, indicating that there are legal complexities inherent in this project. Meanwhile, the Congress also wrote to Governor Anandiben Patel, terming the road-widening bid "as a bulldozer of redevelopment on the soul of Kashi". Gyanvapi mosque management committee's joint secretary, SM Yasin, appealed to people not to create panic on the issue. Congress's city unit president Raghvendra Chaubey said that a 12-member team of party functionaries had been formed to conduct a survey of the area to understand the ground reality of Dalmandi.

VDA begins campaign on new building bylaws

Varanasi: The Varanasi Development Authority has intensified its campaign to make people aware of the UP Development Authority Building Construction and Development Bylaws-2025, as well as the Model Zoning Regulation-2025. Speaking to TOI after the launch of the awareness campaign, VDA vice chairman Pulkit Garg said that following the state govt's approval of the Building Construction and Development Bylaws-2025, which aims to streamline construction processes, promote green buildings, and encourage vertical growth, the authority in Varanasi has started its promotion. By holding workshops and other events, the agency is highlighting how it will be beneficial for builders and building owners. Concerns generated by provisions like approving maps along with a minimum of 9 meters of existing roads only, in new developing areas, are also being tackled by officials. The first major workshop in regards to this was organised by the VDA on July 24 at the cultural complex Chowkaghat. The vice chairman introduced the main points of the byelwas, such as registration by depositing a token amount of Rs 1 for 100 square meters of residential construction and 30 square meters of commercial construction, setting a time limit for obtaining no-objection certificates ((NOC) from the relevant departments, removal of ground coverage restrictions, increase in floor area ratio, no no-objection certificate required for hotels, medical facilities, paying guest/home stays, relaxation in standards for industrial units, and simplification of zoning regulations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Town planner Prabhat Kumar discussed the intricacies of the byelaws in detail.
