Mandira Bedi On Why She Doesn't Mark Raj Kaushal's Death Anniversary: ‘I Decided…'

Mandira Bedi's husband Raj Kaushal passed away on June 30, 2021, following a heart attack.
Mandira Bedi recently opened up about coping with the death of her husband Raj Kaushal, who passed away in 2021. She said that the first major occasions and festivals after his death were really hard for her. Mandira also shared that one year after his death, she chose to stop observing his death anniversaries. She questioned the need to commemorate such a painful day, saying there's nothing worth remembering in it as it's a sad memory.
In a conversation with Satyadev Barman on YouTube channel The Full Circle, Mandira Bedi said that while she did all the rituals for one year after Raj Kaushal's death, she decided after a year that she will not mark his death anniversaries anymore. 'I did a one-month puja, one-year puja and all other rituals. After the one-year puja, I decided I am not going to mark this day (death anniversary) anymore… why should we mark this day…what is there to remember in this day… it's a sad day in our lives," she said.
She also added, 'I can say it now without fully breaking down, that first year, the first of everything, the first birthday, the first anniversary, first Diwali, Raj loved Diwali, the first New Year, they were all really hard. The firsts of everything is when you sit in your room and you shut the door and you don't want to talk to anybody and you cry, and you cry till you can't cry anymore."
Mandira spoke about how their kids dealt with the death of Raj Kaushal. Their adopted daughter Tara was only 8-9 months at the time of his death, and hadn't known him for long, but their son Vir was affected deeply. She said that she never told Vir not to cry, and instead, advised him to let the tears out. ''Boys don't cry' that is crap. I told him cry as much as you feel like and let those tears out because the sooner you let all those tears out we will be able to remember him from a place of joy," she said.
In February this year, Mandira paid a heartfelt tribute to her late husband Raj Kaushal, sharing a never-seen-before picture on their 26th wedding anniversary. She posted a short reel with an unseen picture from their wedding. In the caption, she wrote, 'We would have been married 26 years today. Miss you."
