Punjab CM extends Rs23.91bn business loans in three months
While chairing a special meeting for a detailed briefing on 'Easy Business Finance and Easy Business Card' schemes. She added, 'For the first time, 6753 women have took loans worth Rs. 3.42 billion to run their own businesses,' She directed the authorities concerned to complete the process of pending applications for easy business finance and card loans as early as possible.
The Chief Minister directed the relevant authorities to make arrangements to activate easy business card through WhatsApp as well. She also sought a plan for the export and manufacturing sector loans. She said, 'Easy Business Finance and Easy Business Card programs should not be stopped under any circumstances.'
Maryam Nawaz Sharif was apprised by MD PSIC Sara Umar about progress on Easy Business Scheme. She said, '3010 people got loans worth Rs. 18 billion under Chief Minister Easy Business Finance Scheme, while 104,000 people got loans worth Rs. 43 billion under Chief Minister Easy Business Card Scheme.'
She added, 'Out of 74,579 applications for Chief Minister Easy Business Finance, 2505 have been approved, and loans have been received; whereas out of 12,029 applications for Chief Minister Easy Business Finance Tier II, 505 have been approved, and loans have been received.'
The CM was further apprised, 'Out of 1380,838 applications for Chief Minister Easy Business Card Scheme, 104,133 have been approved.' She was briefed, '1312 people got loans worth Rs. 3.91 billion for transportation business
trading, whereas 175 people received loans worth Rs. 3.94 billion for distribution business.'
She was updated, 'There is a trend of getting loans for professional services, agriculture, dairy, food, beautification, auto, fertilizer, pesticide, and other businesses. The largest number of people are providing services through Aasan Karuba card, 61,996 took loans worth Rs. 26.13 billion. 24,522 people received loans worth Rs. 10.75 billion for trading. and 10,699 people took loans worth Rs. 3.69 billion for agri-small business.'

Remote areas of Punjab: CM directs installation of water filtration plants
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif presided over a special meeting in which progress being made on clean water, water filtration plant and other development projects were reviewed. The Chief Minister was given a detailed briefing about the Model Village project. The meeting also reviewed progress being made on Lahore Development project and Punjab Development project. On this occasion, the proposal to install water filtration plants in the remote areas was also reviewed. The Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has assigned a deadline of 30th June, 2026 regarding the installation of water filtration plants. She emphasized on the early completion of the construction and repair of streets in the Lahore Development Project. Expressing her indignation over delay in the completion of some projects, the CM also reviewed 122 beautification projects in every city of Punjab. 51 beautification projects will be completed in Lahore division, 64 in Rawalpindi, 37 in Faisalabad, 75 in Multan. 45 in Sargodha, 64 in Gujranwala, 51 in DG Khan, 61 in Bahawalpur, 53 in Gujrat and 49 in Sahiwal. The Chief Minister directed to ensure timely completion of all beautification projects. She underscored those public complaints regarding non-availability of drinking water will be redressed on a priority basis. She directed to formulate a regular system for the construction, repair and maintenance of water filtration plants. CJP's pension reaches Rs2.39m in 2024; Senate told
ISLAMABAD: In a startling disclosure, the government informed the Senate on Friday that the pension of the Chief Justice of Pakistan has ballooned to an eye-watering Rs 2.39 million in 2024 – a fourfold increase since 2010. The revelation came in a routine written reply from the Ministry of Law and Justice, led by Azam Nazeer Tarar, igniting fresh debate over judicial perks amid a backdrop of widening economic inequality. The Ministry's breakdown laid bare a consistent, steep upward trajectory: from Rs 560,000 in 2010, the pension of the country's top judge climbed annually to reach over Rs 2 million by this year. This includes notable jumps – Rs 1.005 million in 2015, Rs 1.338 million in 2018, and a leap to Rs 2.39 million just this year. The figures prompt urgent questions about fiscal responsibility and transparency in the allocation of public funds for the country's superior judiciary. Further fuelling public scrutiny, the Senate was told that the Chief Justice's widow enjoys lavish benefits – including a driver, orderly, free water supply, an exemption from income tax, and monthly allowances covering Rs 3,000 worth of telephone calls, 2,000 electricity units, and 300 litres of petrol. Critics argued these privileges, extending well beyond standard provisions, illustrate entrenched elitism within the country's corridors of power. The disclosures overshadowed proceedings as the Senate moved swiftly on other legislation, including the Petroleum Amendment Bill, 2025 and the Virtual Estates Ordinance 2025. The latter sparked visible friction when Senator Afnanullah of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) staged a walkout, accusing his own party government of intellectual theft. 'This bill is mine,' Afnan protested. 'I spent months preparing it, only for the government to block it and then present a copied version. This is outright cheating – credit must be given where it's due.' The Senate's rapid referral of these contentious bills to standing committees leaves their fate uncertain, yet the Chief Justice of Pakistan's pension hike is certain to ignite ongoing debate over judicial accountability and the prioritisation of public resources in a country grappling with economic hardship.
