Fire broke out on the set of Ju Jingyi's new drama
25 Mar - It was reported that a fire had broken out on the set of Ju Jingyi's new costume drama, "Veil of Shadows".
The incident was reported to have occurred on 20 March, when a house was lit up on fire after a mishap concerning a bonfire scene. It was reported that the actors were preparing to shoot a campfire scene when the fire got out of control and accidentally ignited a structure nearby.
It was reported that Ju was rehearsing a dance with several other dancers at the time, and immediately escaped the scene when the fire spread.
According to a report, after the fire, the Hengdian city council and local fire department said they had not received any notification regarding the incident.
Director Guo Jingming told the public, "No one was injured, everyone is fine, only one thatched house was burned."
Nonetheless, many netizens questioned his response, seeing that images and videos from the scene showed that the fire had spread even wider than just one house.

Liu Yuning denies starring in "The Island of Siliang"
18 Jun - Liu Yuning is quick when it comes to responding to rumours about his casting, including the most recent one, when rumours circulated that he will play a big role in the upcoming series, "The Island of Siliang". On 14 June, amid the heated debate about his participation in the project, the actor posted a Polaroid picture of himself on Weibo and wrote, "I have never received a script. Haha." The response seemed to confirm Liu's previous stance on not letting his name be used by "slippers" to gain publicity for their project. The term refers to production crews that will "slip" false information about casting in order to drum up support for their actual lead actors. The actor once revealed in a livestream with fans that he has been a victim of production crews multiple times. "Some production crew member will announce that I will play the role, wait for the haters to slam me, and finally announce someone else in the role by saying that they have found a "more suitable candidate," he said. The same thing had happened to him multiple times, including for the drama "Ya She" in 2023 and "The World of Flowers" in 2025, the latter that had caused unnecessary fan war between his fans and lead actress Ju Jingyi's fans. Tencent explores acquisition of Nexon to strengthen gaming portfolio
Tencent Holdings is reportedly exploring a potential acquisition of Nexon to bolster its gaming operations. The Chinese company has initiated discussions with the family of Nexon's late founder, Kim Jung-ju, regarding a possible deal, reported Bloomberg. Nexon, established in South Korea in 1994 and listed in Japan in 2011, is known for popular role-playing games such as MapleStory. Tencent and Nexon have previously collaborated on projects, including the co-development of Dungeon & Fighter, which has been a major source of revenue. The Kim family holds their stake in Nexon through NXC, which owned 44.4% of Nexon as of 30 June, according to Nexon's interim report. Kim's wife and daughters control approximately 67.6% of NXC. While the family is consulting advisers to evaluate their options, it remains unclear how open they are to selling their Nexon stake, and there is no guarantee that Tencent's discussions will lead to a transaction, the report said. This move follows Tencent's previous attempt to acquire Nexon in 2019 and coincides with other investments in South Korean assets. In late May 2025, a Tencent subsidiary agreed to purchase a nearly 10% stake in Seoul-based music producer SM Entertainment, aligning with the easing of an unofficial ban on K-pop in mainland China. In March, Tencent also committed €1.16bn ($1.3bn) for a 25% stake in a new Ubisoft unit holding intellectual property rights, including those for Assassin's Creed. In 2024, Tencent cancelled its mobile game based on Square Enix's Nier franchise after two years of development, citing monetisation challenges amid high costs and franchise rights issues. 3 best Netflix action movies you (probably) haven't seen
From "Havoc" to "Bullet Train Explosion" to "Exterritorial", Netflix is chock-full of high-octane action movies to get your pulse pumping and your energy up. However, the sheer breadth of options available on that top-rate streaming service — especially when it comes to the streamer's original content — can make it easier said than done when narrowing that selection down to one quality action-packed flick. So we've made things a bit easier for you by spotlighting a trio of action movies that you might've missed the first time around. These underrated Netflix titles range from a French action thriller about a skilled female soldier who seeks out revenge for crimes against her family, to a gory and guns-blazing South Korean film about a bodyguard-turned-assassin. If it's fast-paced chase sequences, bloody fight scenes, expert stunt work and fiery explosions you're after, here are three Netflix action movies you (probably) haven't seen yet but definitely should. When it comes to action movies, nothing tastes quite as sweet as revenge — and Jang Ok-ju (played by "The Call" star Jeon Jong-seo), a former bodyguard for elite VIP clients, is out for just that after her best friend Choi Min-hee (Park Yu-rim) commits suicide and leaves behind a final wish of getting vengeance against Choi Pro (Kim Ji-hoon), the sex trafficker who abused and extorted her. Ok-ju tracks down Choi's address and sets off to brutally do her dearly departed friend's bidding. Written and directed by Lee Chung-hyun, "Ballerina" (not to be confused with the recent "John Wick" spinoff) has a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and pulled in 14.7 million views and 23.1 million hours of viewing when it debuted on Netflix in October 2023, earning it the number one spot in Netflix's top 10 list of most-watched non-English films. Rohan Naahar of The Indian Express wrote of the "bone-crushing" thriller: "Neon visuals and a thumping soundtrack elevate Netflix's slickly packaged Korean revenge thriller that substitutes plot in favour of pure vibes." Written and directed by Nic Mathieur, this 2016 sci-fi action flick is set in a civil war-ridden Moldova, where US forces have been engaging insurgents of the former regime—that is, until a new threat emerges: an invisible and unknown entity that kills almost instantaneously any living being caught in its path. Leading the special-ops team dispatched to fight the supernatural beings is James Badge Dale as DARPA scientist Mark Clyne; Emily Mortimer also stars as CIA officer Fran Madison, with Max Martini, Bruce Greenwood and Clayne Crawford in supporting roles. Over on Pajiba, Jodi Smith writes of the film: "Instead of going for huge stars, awkward and unneeded backstories, and bloat, 'Spectral' manages to pack in just what a viewer needs to enjoy the plot and journey placed before them." Watch "Spectral" on Netflix now Dubbed "John Wick on the Riviera" by Vulture critic Bilge Ebiri, the Julien Leclercq-directed "Sentinelle" centers on Klara (Olga Kurylenko), a highly-trained French soldier who has returned home to Nice from serving in the Middle East traumatized by the harrowing experience. But unfortunately, the hits keep coming for Klara. After her sister Tania (Marilyn Lima) is horrifically raped and left in a coma, Klara users her lethal military skills to hunt down the men who hurt her sibling. Though some critics have pointed out that the lean-and-mean script (co-written by Leclercq and Matthieu Serveau) suffers from some cliches, Decider reviewer Johnny Loftus praises the action movie for balancing "its beats of emotional trauma against the darker forces of vigilantism," adding that the film "doesn't forgive its main character's drastic actions, but it illustrates pretty well how she got there."
