Is Brookfield Renewable Corporation (BEPC) the Best Clean Energy Stock to Buy According to Billionaires?
We recently published a list of the 10 Best Clean Energy Stocks to Buy According to Billionaires. In this article, we are going to take a look at where Brookfield Renewable Corporation (NYSE:BEPC) stands against other top clean energy stocks according to billionaires.
The current overall bearish trend has also dealt a massive blow to the energy sector, which fell by more than 15.7% over the last five days, against a decline of less than 10% by the overall market. This is despite the fact that energy commodities were exempted from President Trump's sweeping new tariffs – a clear tactic to keep energy inflation in check and in-line with his broader aim to keep energy prices low. The biggest reason for this is the prevailing anxiety about what these tariffs will do to economic growth and, hence, the power demand. The decline in energy stocks also indicates that the market is not expecting any reindustrialization of America to happen in the near term, which appears to be the President's key aim behind his upending of the entire global trade system.

That said, the global renewable energy industry is growing at a record pace as the world moves ahead with its energy transition to mitigate the impacts of climate change. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, the global renewable power capacity reached 4,448 gigawatts (GW) in 2024, with an addition of 585 GW just last year. This represented a 92.5% share of the total capacity expansion during the year and marked a record 15.1% rate of annual growth.
The American clean energy sector has kept up with this explosive growth and brought online 48.2 GW of capacity from utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage in 2024, according to research organization Cleanview. Renewables are set to continue this momentum, and the US Energy Information Administration expects the share of new power capacity to come online this year from renewables and batteries to jump to 93%.
One sector that has particularly garnered accelerated investor interest over the last year is nuclear energy. The International Energy Agency recently revealed that nuclear is set to generate a record level of electricity in 2025. Moreover, on the sidelines of the CERAWeek conference in Houston last month, several major corporations even signed a pledge to support the goal of at least tripling the world's nuclear energy capacity by 2050.
Another sector that has performed exceptionally well is that of energy storage, which set a new record with 12.3 GW of installations across all segments in the US last year. According to the American Clean Power Association, the industry is on a path to surpass 100 GW of grid-scale storage deployed by 2030. However, the country's rapidly expanding sector now faces a serious threat since over 90% of lithium-ion energy storage cells deployed in the US storage market last year originated from China, according to Rho Motion, a data research company.
Despite the Trump administration's best efforts to hamper its growth, the clean energy sector continues to be backed up by an increasing number of hedge funds and billionaires. A great example is how Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, has invested over $40 billion in wind, solar, and hydroelectric projects and operates one of the largest renewable energy portfolios in America.

BEPC also reported 10% FFO per unit growth in 2024 and expects to maintain this growth rate for years to come. Brookfield currently boasts an annual dividend yield of 5.85% and aims to continue increasing its high-yielding dividend at a 5% to 9% annual rate.

Overall, BEPC ranks 10th on our list of the best clean energy stocks to buy according to billionaires. While we acknowledge the potential of renewable energy stocks , our conviction lies in the belief that AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns, and doing so within a shorter time frame. ‘Went Too Far': Elon Musk Says He Regrets Some Posts About Trump
'I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,' Elon Musk posted on his social media platform X early Wednesday. 'They went too far.' Musk and Trump, who were once almost inseparable allies, were engaged in a public and vitriolic war of words last week. But the fierce hostilities between the man with the most money in the world and the man with the mightiest military appear to be cooling. The statement of remorse by Musk, who spent more than $250 million to help elect Trump in 2024, comes as observers have noticed another shift in his tone on social media toward the Administration. In retweets and replies, Musk signaled support for Trump's approach toward the protests in Los Angeles, including sharing multiple of the President's recent posts from Truth Social. He also responded with a heart emoji to a video of Trump telling reporters on Monday that he wished Musk well and that they had a 'good relationship.' It's a sharp contrast to how the two powerful men discussed each other last week, after Musk left his official government role and ramped up his criticisms of Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill' massive tax-and-spending legislative package that is stumbling through Congress. 'Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore,' Trump told reporters at the White House on June 5. 'I'm very disappointed in Elon. I've helped Elon a lot.' On Truth Social, Trump said at the time that Musk ' went CRAZY!' and threatened that the 'easiest way to save money' would be 'to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.' In turn, Musk alleged that the Administration was holding back the public release of so-called Epstein Files because Trump is implicated in them, and he endorsed a message that suggested 'Trump should be impeached' and Vance 'should replace him.' Those posts have since been deleted.

Federal appeals court to hear arguments in Trump's long-shot effort to fight hush money conviction
Five months after President Donald Trump was sentenced without penalty in the New York hush money case, his attorneys will square off again with prosecutors Wednesday in one of the first major tests of the Supreme Court's landmark presidential immunity decision. Trump is relying heavily on the high court's divisive 6-3 immunity ruling from July in a long-shot bid to get his conviction reviewed – and ultimately overturned – by federal courts. After being convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records, Trump in January became the first felon to ascend to the presidency in US history. Even after Trump was reelected and federal courts became flooded with litigation tied to his second term, the appeals in the hush money case have chugged forward in multiple courts. A three-judge panel of the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals – all named to the bench by Democratic presidents – will hear arguments Wednesday in one of those cases. Trump will be represented on Wednesday by Jeffrey Wall, a private lawyer and Supreme Court litigator who served as acting solicitor general during Trump's first administration. Many of the lawyers who served on Trump's defense team in the hush money case have since taken top jobs within the Justice Department. The case stems from the 2023 indictment announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, who accused Trump of falsely categorizing payments he said were made to quash unflattering stories during the 2016 election. Trump was accused of falsifying a payment to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to cover up a $130,000 payment Cohen made to adult-film star Stormy Daniels to keep her from speaking out before the 2016 election about an alleged affair with Trump. (Trump has denied the affair.) Trump was ultimately convicted last year and was sentenced without penalty in January, days before he took office. The president is now attempting to move that case to federal court, where he is betting he'll have an easier shot at arguing that the Supreme Court's immunity decision in July will help him overturn the conviction. Trump's earlier attempts to move the case to federal court have been unsuccessful. US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein, nominated by President Bill Clinton, denied the request in September – keeping Trump's case in New York courts instead. The 2nd Circuit will now hear arguments on Trump's appeal of that decision on Wednesday. 'He's lost already several times in the state courts,' said David Shapiro, a former prosecutor and now a lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. And Trump's long-running battle with New York Judge Juan Merchan, Shapiro said, has 'just simmered up through the system' in New York courts in a way that may have convinced Trump that federal courts will be more receptive. Trump, who frequently complained about Merchan, has said he wants his case heard in an 'unbiased federal forum.' Trump's argument hangs largely on a technical but hotly debated section of the Supreme Court's immunity decision last year. Broadly, that decision granted former presidents 'at least presumptive' immunity for official acts and 'absolute immunity' when presidents were exercising their constitutional powers. State prosecutors say the hush money payments were a private matter – not official acts of the president – and so they are not covered by immunity. But the Supreme Court's decision also barred prosecutors from attempting to show a jury evidence concerning a president's official acts, even if they are pursuing alleged crimes involving that president's private conduct. Without that prohibition, the Supreme Court reasoned, a prosecutor could 'eviscerate the immunity' the court recognized by allowing a jury to second-guess a president's official acts. Trump is arguing that is exactly what Bragg did when he called White House officials such as former communications director Hope Hicks and former executive assistant Madeleine Westerhout to testify at his trial. Hicks had testified that Trump felt it would 'have been bad to have that story come out before the election,' which prosecutors later described as the 'nail' in the coffin of the president's defense. Trump's attorneys are also pointing to social media posts the president sent in 2018 denying the Daniels hush money scheme as official statements that should not have been used in the trial. State prosecutors 'introduced into evidence and asked the jury to scrutinize President Trump's official presidential acts,' Trump's attorneys told the appeals court in a filing last month. 'One month after trial, the Supreme Court unequivocally recognized an immunity prohibiting the use of such acts as evidence at any trial of a former president.' A White House spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. If Trump's case is ultimately reviewed by federal courts, that would not change his state law conviction into a federal conviction. Trump would not be able to pardon himself just because a federal court reviews the case. Bragg's office countered that it's too late for federal courts to intervene. Federal officials facing prosecution in state courts may move their cases to federal court in many circumstances under a 19th century law designed to ensure states don't attempt to prosecute them for conduct performed 'under color' of a US office or agency. A federal government worker, for instance, might seek to have a case moved to federal court if they are sued after getting into a car accident while driving on the job. But in this case, Bragg's office argued, Trump has already been convicted and sentenced. That means, prosecutors said, there's really nothing left for federal courts to do. 'Because final judgment has been entered and the state criminal action has concluded, there is nothing to remove to federal district court,' prosecutors told the 2nd Circuit in January. Even if that's not true, they said, seeking testimony from a White House adviser about purely private acts doesn't conflict with the Supreme Court's ruling in last year's immunity case. Bragg's office has pointed to a Supreme Court ruling as well: the 5-4 decision in January that allowed Trump to be sentenced in the hush money case. The president raised many of the same concerns about evidence when he attempted to halt that sentencing before the inauguration. A majority of the Supreme Court balked at that argument in a single sentence that, effectively, said Trump could raise those concerns when he appeals his conviction. That appeal remains pending in state court. 'The alleged evidentiary violations at President-elect Trump's state-court trial,' the Supreme Court wrote, 'can be addressed in the ordinary course on appeal.'

United Healthcare: Earnings, A $200 Billion Overreaction
One of the most dramatic reactions from the Q1 2025 earnings season came from United Healthcare (NYSE:UNH), which shed over $200 billion in market cap and cratered 23% intra-day post-earnings along with continued decline upon the resignation of its CEO and a potential DOJ inquiry. At first glance, that kind of move suggests something catastrophic although the actual results paint a very different picture. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 4 Warning Sign with UNH. The selloff was driven by a 2% increase in Medicare Advantage costs and higher utilization trends (greater related medical expenses), which led to a reduction in 2025 earnings guidance from $29 to $26 per share initially and later with guidance lifted. That's collectively a $3 hit to EPS which is material from initial guidance, but not earth-shattering especially considering UNH is stil projected to have 20.65 billion in 2024 full year net income based on revisions of major investment banks aggregated by Refinitiv along with 25-30 billion for FY26. That level of profit implies a P/E of roughly 12 and a forward P/E of less than 10 (representing a forward cash flow yield of 10%, a truly absurd financial metric for a company of this size), which is deeply discounted for a business of this scale, profitability, and consistency. The increase in utilization is also expected within the earnings call to normalize to historical averages in the near future and this isn't the first time a Medicare Advantage utilization has caused the share price to decline. In June 2023 a similar utilization increase was seen and the effects were short lived, negligible to profitability and the share price quickly was achieving new highs just a six weeks later. Given how the insurance operation works, premiums can also be raised to offset additional care expenses encountered to maintain similar margins and levels of profitability. The CEO also stepped down due to stated personal reasons, while for investors having a CEO step down is typically seen as something negative, the successor for the position is the long term prior CEO Steven J Hemsley, an executive that oversaw exceptional increases in financial operations, efficiency, and stewardship of the company through industry opportunities. While the stock declined rather significantly upon his appointment, this would seem to be dramatic given the prior CEO executed incredible shareholder returns and growth of operations. The last contributor to major negative sentiment is the "announcement/accusation" by journalists a DOJ probe into medicare advantage billing escalating from civil to criminal (uncorroborated by the DOJ or any legal agency), the company explicitly denied any knowledge or informational requests related to such a probe or its supposed existence and given a prior legal ruling in the civil case that there was no apparent incorrect coding for billing, the legitimacy of this seems to be in question. While if the probe is found to be legitimate in the future, as incredible as it sounds, the company would also likely not have any difficulty financing a fine/outlay of significant size. UNH generates profits from a few large business segments albeit diversified due to the massive scale, the insurance operation in which premiums are received and invested/used to pay out claims respectfully and represents the largest health insurer in the US. The other major component of business operations is Optum, which consists of its pharmacy benefit manager operations, Optum Health which directs healthcare directly, and Optum Insights which provides data analytics and consulting. The hit to guidance was within the legacy insurance segment, which remains wildly profitable although the real driver of earnings growth (a greater than 50% share of net income) is seen within Optum which would seem to be unaffected. UNH's capital allocation strategy has historically been a masterclass in shareholder returns. The company has averaged 2-4 billion in quarterly stock buybacks, while simultaneously paying out close to $8 billion in annual dividends all without compromising operations or balance sheet strength. The most recent buyback spike in Q4 2024 was nearly $5 billion, the largest in the past three years. Based on the outlandish profitability of UNH and the businesses clear willingness and ability to reward shareholders, once you throw in the fact that there is a significant discount being placed on the business by the market, it becomes clear this is a sizable overreaction and not reflective of the operations or strength of the company. *historically repurchases accelerate for UNH under market declines This level of profitability and shareholder alignment is rare, and it's even more compelling now that the market has mispriced the stock on short-term guidance noise. The biggest opportunities in investing often come when price temporarily detaches from financial reality and that's exactly what this looks like. With the regime of a current market built on fear and facing macroeconomic struggles, health insurance is generally considered a defensive, non-cyclical industry because demand for healthcare remains relatively stable regardless of economic conditions. People don't stop needing medical care during a recession and if anything, economic stress can drive higher Medicaid enrollment or subsidized marketplace coverage. For insurers like UNH, revenue is largely tied to premiums and government reimbursements, which are contractual or regulated and don't fluctuate with consumer sentiment or discretionary spending trends. Even during downturns, enrollment can remain stable or even grow as individuals shift from employer-sponsored plans to government-backed options. Unlike cyclical sectors like consumer discretionary or industrials, healthcare spending is inelastic and people prioritize it no matter what. Moreover, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid, which are a large part of UNH's book, are government-funded and relatively insulated from short-term economic cycles. As for the broader industry landscape, there are no meaningful moves underway to undercut or dismantle the private health insurance model. The regulatory outlook remains stable, and there are no current legislative pressures that would structurally alter the business model of companies like UNH. Importantly, this volatility in premiums is limited to the UnitedHealthcare segment. Optum UNH's faster-growing, higher margin division which continues to deliver strong performance across health services, pharmacy benefits, and data analytics. Together, this structure gives UNH a diversified revenue model that can weather temporary shocks in one segment without compromising overall earnings power and represents a significantly undervalued equity at current market prices. * TipRanks.
