Malaika Arora swears by 'no food after 7 pm' rule, calls intermittent fasting her secret to staying fit at 49: 'It has worked like magic for me'

Akshay Kumar
and
Kareena Kapoor
have company, and it is none other than
Malaika Arora
. The actress, who is known for her age-defying looks and commitment to fitness, recently opened up about her health regimen, aligning herself with the popular Bollywood belief that early dinners are key to staying fit.
While stars like Akshay and Kareena have long advocated having dinner before sunset, Malaika has now echoed the same, revealing she never eats a meal after 7 pm.
In a recent interview with 32ND YouTube channel, Malaika revealed that she follows intermittent fasting for 17 hours every alternate day, and in the seven-hour eating window, she doesn't restrict herself. 'It's all portion control. I don't believe in cheat days and stuff like that,' she said.
Interestingly, she shared that unlike her son, she doesn't weigh her meals but prefers to eat from a specific bowl that limits her portion size naturally.
'Intermittent fasting works like magic for me'
The 49-year-old emphasized how fasting has changed her life for the better. 'I do intermittent fasting. That's something that has worked like magic for me. I think it just resets my entire system. I sleep better, I wake up better, I don't feel heavy,' she noted.
Malaika clarified that she used to fast every day but has now shifted to alternate-day fasting, stressing that fasting and dieting aren't the same thing.
'There's a big difference between dieting and fasting. I eat, but I eat in that limited time of the day and that's what I eat,' she explained, underscoring how this approach helps her maintain both her energy and physique.
Her golden rule: no eating after sunset
Another principle Malaika lives by is avoiding food post-sunset.
'My last meal is at 7 pm. I try not to eat anything after that until the next day,' she revealed, adding that she breaks her fast the next day with ghee and has her first proper meal only at noon. 'And then I eat everything—rice, roti, sabzi—everything. I eat everything,' she said, dismissing the idea that staying fit means giving up on traditional Indian meals.

As she approaches a milestone birthday, Malaika is candid about the changes age brings. 'After a certain age, you are battling with a whole lot of things. I am 49. I will be 50,' she said, highlighting the importance of tailoring health habits to suit one's evolving body and needs.
Beyond her fitness journey, Malaika has also stepped into the culinary business world with her recently launched restaurant in Mumbai.

This South Indian Restaurant Has Been Ranked No. 1 In New York For 2025

An Indian restaurant in New York has just been named the best in the city for 2025. This is a historic achievement by Semma, a Michelin-starred establishment that serves diverse South Indian delicacies. Semma topped the prestigious annual list of 100 best restaurants by The New York Times. This year, only the top 10 restaurants in the city have been ranked. The remaining 90 have been named but do not have a specific ranking, unlike previous years. Following Semma on the 2025 list are Atomix, Le Bernardin, Kabaw, Ha's Snack Bar, King, Penny, Sushi Sho, Szechuan Mountain House and Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi. In 2024, Semma occupied the 7th position. It was one of four Indian restaurants that made it to the list of 100 best. This year's list was curated by the New York Times' interim restaurant critics, Priya Krishna and Melissa Clark, along with editor Brian Gallagher. The trio revealed that they picked the final 100 from a total of more than 20,000 restaurants in the city. They noted, "Of course, there are more than 100 amazing restaurants in New York. But these best answered the questions: Where would we send our friends? Which places are worth a splurge? Worth an hour-long subway ride?" About Semma New York Semma in Greenwich Village is helmed by Chef Vijay Kumar, who hails from Tamil Nadu. The restaurant spotlights lesser-known dishes from different parts of South India in order to celebrate its rich culinary heritage. While describing Semma, The New York Times' food critic Priya Krishna states, "New York is teeming with Indian restaurants. Yet before Semma, a deeply personal tribute to the chef Vijay Kumar's upbringing in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the city's diners had never seen Indian food like this. Punctuated with chiles, coconut and earthy curry leaves, Semma's flavours are lingering and loud, yet restrained. Its dosa is the best in the city: a crisp specimen that's heady with fermentation and slicked with ghee and fiery gunpowder spice. Semma altered the course of Indian dining here, and four years on, Mr. Kumar's food continues to feel fresh." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Semma (@semmanyc) Semma has won several other accolades in the past. It currently holds its Michelin star for the third consecutive year. While there are several acclaimed Indian restaurants in New York, Semma is the only one in the city with a Michelin star at present. Semma is part of the Unapologetic Foods restaurant group, which also includes Dhamaka (another popular Indian restaurant in New York).

Thug Life Review By Kamal Haasan Fans: Electric Scenes, Deserves A Second Watch

Chennai: Theatres erupted in celebration as Kamal Haasan's Thug Life hit screens across India today barring Karnataka and fans wasted no time in sharing their excitement after catching the first day first show. Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life marks the reunion of the legendary filmmaker and Kamal Haasan after nearly four decades. The buzz was sky-high and fans turned up in large numbers - from die-hard Kamal followers to loyal supporters of Silambarasan (Simbu), who plays a key role in Thug Life. 'Will Watch Thug Life A Second Time' "I came as a Kamal Haasan fan but I'm leaving as a fan of both Kamal and Simbu," said Mini, a young fan, beaming with excitement. "Their chemistry on screen is amazing! I think people will watch this movie a second time." Jayadev, another moviegoer, praised the film's multiple layers and references. "Kamal sir has packed the film with so many subtle references. It's a film that deserves a theatrical watch. And AR Rahman's music - he has lifted the entire experience to another level. This one is set to do crazy numbers at the box office," Jayadev told NDTV. Disappointment In Karnataka While fans are celebrating in Tamil Nadu and other parts of India, Karnataka audiences were left disappointed. The film hasn't released there following a controversy over Kamal Haasan's comments about the Kannada language. "Karnataka fans should definitely travel to other cities and watch this in theatres," Jayadev added. Aditya, another fan, was more nuanced in his review, "The Kamal and STR combo was superb. Their scenes were electric. But yes, the pacing felt a bit slow at times. Trisha's role, though - totally unexpected and really good." A woman fan summed it up with joy, "It's so nice to see a legend like Kamal Haasan share equal screen space with another top star like Simbu. This is what cinema should be." Scenes From Hosur, On The Tamil Nadu-Karnataka Border In Chennai, shows are already booked out till the weekend. In Hosur, a Tamil Nadu town near the Karnataka border, theatres saw an unusual rush, as many Kannada and Tamil speaking fans crossed over to watch the film. Thug Life also stars Trisha, Nassar and Ashok Selvan in key roles. With Kamal Haasan's Vikram and Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan already blockbuster successes, both would be hoping Thug Life, too, would storm the box office. Talks are likely between Kamal's team and the Karnataka Film Chamber, but for now, the focus is firmly on the screen.
