‘Big Brother 27' recap: After Jimmy's outburst, was Zae, Amy, or Kelley evicted first?

Heading into the first eviction episode of Big Brother 27, Ashley Hollis had just won the Power of Veto and removed herself from the chopping block. Head of Household Vince Panaro replaced her with his closest ally, Kelley Jorgensen, believing that the "risk" of nominating her would be worth the "reward" of keeping their alliance a secret ... sure, Jan. Zae Frederich and Amy Bingham were also up for eviction, but with a BB Blockbuster comp still to take place, it was anyone's guess as to who would go home on Thursday night.

The "previously on" segment caught viewers up on Jimmy's wild outburst at the Veto meeting. After Kelley was announced as the renom, Jimmy stood up and attacked Keanu for calling him a snake. "I am gunning for you, so buckle up, buddy, because this snake has a bite," Jimmy hissed, to which Keanu cooly responded, "How long did it take for you to come up with that?"
After the meeting, Keanu and Jimmy sat down to come to an understanding with each other about what was said in the days leading up to it. Jimmy told Keanu that he "has nothing against" him and denied that he was overtly gunning to get him out of the game, but of course that was a bold-faced lie. Elsewhere, and despite basically nominating herself as the replacement, Kelley was in tears ("mostly real") because she wasn't entirely sure at this point that she'd have the votes to stay this week.
BURGER BOYS & DUMBBELLS
Not to be atypical of any past season, a group of guys got together to create the "Burger Boys" alliance in Vince's HOH room. Vince went along with Zae, Zach, Rylie and Will's new plan because he had already decided he wanted Amy to be evicted so that meant any plan to secure Zae's safety was in his best interest.
Self-nominated icon Kelley spent the week digging herself into a deeper hole with an anti-campaign for her own safety where she said everything she shouldn't say to the people she needs votes from. Her campaign included gems like reminding people that Zach won $10,000 in front of Zach, calling the workout bros "The Dumbbells" to their face, and awkwardly cheering on Keanu and Jimmy spending time together after their fight. As paranoia crept in, both Kelley and Vince began to get nervous about their decision to "do something cool" by putting her up in the first place.
COMING FOR THE QUEEN
With Rachel's number one ally Amy on the block, she knew she had to put in work in order to secure votes against Zae for the dual purpose of protecting Amy and striking a blow at any boys alliance. Luckily Rachel found easy support among some of the women who also had their sights set on getting out a strong player like Zae.
Noticing the whispering around the house and knowing how close Rachel and Amy are, Zae figured that he'd need to counter Rachel's efforts to campaign against him, but underestimated her willingness to crash out quickly when threatened. One small comment from Zae made Rachel think that he was threatening her if/when he wins HOH, prompting her to warn him about how dangerous it is "coming for the queen" because he "might get beheaded." Zae remained unphased though, hoping that him standing up a huge threat like Rachel would show the voting houseguests that he's worth working with if they hope to go against her, too.
BB BLOCKBUSTER
For the first BB Blockbuster competition, Zae, Kelley, and Amy played "Ransom Note," a race to unscramble four words that formed a clue directing them to collect an item in the room. Kelley was the first to retrieve an item in the room, picking up a white and green gem tiara, and pressed her buzzer first to successfully solve the ransom note riddle and earn her safety from eviction!
Once the result was announced to the house, they had mere moments to discuss in small groups how they'd be voting between Zae and Amy. Based on some casual eye rolls from Rachel while whispering with people like Adrian, it seemed like she might not have the votes she thought she did to save Amy.
LIVE VOTE
Prior to the vote, Amy and Zae got to give one last campaign speech to the houseguests. Amy argued that Zae is "more of a competitor physically and mentally" that they should send home and that she's an "honest to a fault" player that they should want to work with. Zae agreed that he's a competitor, but pitched that they're all there to compete. His main case was that Amy is a "second vote for Rachel" and they could "even the playing field" by taking Amy out in order to strike a blow to Rachel. The camerapeople were smart to leave the shot on Rachel during Zae's speech because she was absolutely fuming.
In the Diary Room, the houseguests cast their votes: Kelley to evict Amy, Rachel to "happily" evict Zae, Zach to evict Amy, Rylie to evict Zae, Jimmy to evict Zae, Morgan to evict Zae, Adrian to evict Amy, Keanu to evict Amy, Ashley to evict Zae, Mickey to evict Zae, Will to evict Amy, Ava to evict Zae, Katherine to evict Zae, and Lauren to evict Zae.
By a vote of 9 to 5, Zae was evicted from the house.
ZAE'S CLOSING REMARKS
In his closing conversation with Julie, Zae was surprised to find out that his final two ally Rylie actually voted to evict him. He was equally surprised to learn the unremarkable and irrelevant bit of information that Amy was in fact the accomplice. Despite the could-be-embarrassing record of being the first voted out, Zae kept it positive by finding the unique attribute of him being able to call himself 17th place in Big Brother.
