Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is set to face rising contender Reinier de Ridder at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi's Yas Island on Saturday, July 26.
Whittaker looks to return to the win column with a dominant performance against the Dutchman.
Whittaker (27-8-0, fighting out of New South Wales, Australia) is one of the UFC's most respected middleweights, who rose to prominence with standout victories over Yoel Romero, Jared Cannonier and Marvin Vettori.
His opponent, Reinier de Ridder (20 wins, 2 losses, 0 draws), fighting out of Breda, Netherlands, has quickly emerged as a serious threat in the division. Since joining the UFC in late 2024, the Dutch fighter has showcased elite grappling and finishing abilities. Most notably, he handed Bo Nickal his first professional defeat — a win that signaled his arrival as a true contender.
The event marks the UFC's return to the UAE capital, held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).

Team Abu Dhabi cap brilliant cricket season with D10 title
Team Abu Dhabi capped a remarkable domestic season by winning the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) D10 competition. Abu Dhabi defeated Sharjah by seven wickets in the final after restricting their opponents to 87-5 in their 10 overs. The capital side chased down the target inside seven overs, with captain Rohan Mustafa top-scoring with 36. Mustafa continued his brilliant form in the tournament which included a record-breaking 13-ball half-century. He was named the player of the final and the tournament. Left-arm spinner Haider Ali had earlier left his mark on the tournament with an astonishing spell of five wickets for no runs in two overs during the semi-final against Fujairah. Team Abu Dhabi's D10 winning line-up featured two graduates of Zayed Cricket Academy, Ethan D'Souza and Vishal Saravanan. Victory capped what is being hailed as the most successful season at the Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub (ADCSH) and for its renowned Zayed Cricket Academy (ZCA). The 2024/25 campaign saw other major achievements across with Team Abu Dhabi also emerging champions in the ECB D50 tournament and reaching the semi-finals of the ECB D20. Zayed Cricket Academy U19 side were declared champions of the ECB National League while the U16s were runners-up in the National League. 'This D10 title is a huge validation of our model,' said Matt Boucher, CEO of ADCSH. 'These are not just success stories for board meetings and presentations – they are real, on-the-field wins. Team Abu Dhabi's achievements are proof that long-term investment in player development through Zayed Cricket Academy is delivering tangible results. Team UAE aim to keep 2026 Fifa World Cup dream alive
The UAE will look to earn three points when they face Uzbekistan in a crunch Fifa World Cup qualifier on Thursday (kick off 8 pm UAE Time). Timur Kapadze's Uzbekistan only need to avoid defeat against UAE to join Iran at next year's global extravaganza in the US, Canada and Mexico. UAE, however, will go into the tie at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi determined to - at the very least - delay Uzbekistan's celebrations, while trying to keep their own hopes alive. Seeking a second appearance at the Fifa World Cup, UAE still have an outside chance of securing an automatic ticket and will have Romanian tactician Cosmin Olariu leading them for the first time. They sit on 13 points, four behind Uzbekistan but with just two matches remaining, their fate is out of their hands but Olariu has vowed they will do their best to keep their dream of automatic qualification alive. Stopping history-seeking Uzbekistan won't be easy, with the White Wolves having suffered defeat only once in their qualifying campaign. The players, said defender Rustam Ashurmatov, are determined to realise the dreams of their nation. "We give our all in every match. We go to the field only to win. I think our team is capable of this - we will win," said Ashurmatov to local media. Meanwhile, Australia's Milos Degenek said he has been impressing on younger teammates how tough it is to get to the World Cup through intercontinental playoffs as they prepare for their last two matches in the third round of Asian qualifying. "If we do get the win, hopefully we will, we are obviously almost there," Degenek added. "The most important thing is that we win. We can obviously be happy inside and celebrate a little bit, but nothing too major because if Saudi win against Bahrain ... we'll still have to go there and get a result." With Japan already qualified, Hajime Moriyasu has rested several of his best players and brought in a handful of uncapped youngsters for Thursday's game. Degenek, who played club football in Japan for Yokohama F. Marinos, did not think that would make Australia's task any easier.
