Frankfurt beat Bochum to tighten grip on top four spot
Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bochum 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Sunday, boosting their chances of a first top-four finish in the Champions League era.
Kick-off was delayed by 50 minutes as the visiting fans refused to remove banners blocking an emergency exit.
Frankfurt took the lead 27 minutes in when Rasmus Kristensen thumped in his own rebound on the counter.
The visitors doubled their lead shortly afterwards, with Jean-Matteo Bahoya's 32nd-minute strike set up by a brilliant pass from striker Hugo Ekitike.
Gerrit Holtmann pulled one back with 73 minutes gone to give Bochum hope, but former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi sealed the result with a stoppage-time strike, his second goal in two games since joining the Eagles in winter.
The victory puts Frankfurt fourth, three points ahead of fifth-placed RB Leipzig.
Frankfurt have never qualified for the Champions League through league placing but played in the competition in 2022-23 after winning the Europa League.
Frankfurt, who face Tottenham in the Europa League quarter-finals in April, had lost their previous three league matches.
Bochum were impressive despite the defeat, giving hope that they may pull off a great escape and beat the drop under coach Dieter Hecking.
Hecking took over in November with Bochum having accumulated just one point all season. Since then, Bochum have won 19 points and have beaten giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
Later on Sunday, defending champions Bayer Leverkusen can cut Bayern Munich's lead atop the table to six points with a win at Stuttgart.
Relegation-threatened Heidenheim host fellow strugglers Holstein Kiel in the other game.

One of the Bundesliga's two 2025 FIFA Club World Cup representatives gets set to start their tournament on Tuesday. Niko Kovac's Borussia Dortmund will square off against two-time Brazilian champions Fluminense FC. Unsurprisingly enough, the two teams have never met before. Like league rivals Bayern Munich, Dortmund took advantage of a special FIFA-sanctioned transfer window in order to acquire players in time for the tournament. In BVB's case defender Soumaïla Coulibaly was recalled early from his loan stint with Stade Brest. Transfer news: Bryan Mbeumo responds to speculation amid Spurs, Manchester United links
Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and many others this summer and the Cameroon star has spoken about the speculation. Mbeumo, 25, scored 20 goals and added seven assists for Brentford last season as he continues to develop into one of the best forwards outside of the Premier League's 'big six' clubs. He may not have to wait that much longer to be playing at one of those top clubs. While watching Formula 1's Canadian Grand Prix, Mbeumo was stopped and asked about the transfer speculation. 'It is a bit new for me I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it,' Mbeumo told Sky Sports in the UK. Where should Mbeumo go? Many clubs have long been linked with Mbeumo — Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs have consistently been reported to be interested — but it seems Spurs and Man United are leading the race with Brentford reportedly willing to listen to offers of around $80 million for Mbeumo. But where should he go? The obvious choice is Spurs to link up with his former manager Thomas Frank, who has just left Brentford to take over the north London club. That would be the perfect situation for Mbeumo to flourish on the pitch and he will be given a key role right away. But it's likely Manchester United, even without Champions League football to offer, could offer Brentford slightly more in terms of a transfer fee and will likely be able to better the wages Spurs can offer to Mbeumo. Just like his decision to stay at Brentford over the last few years has paid off massively, this next decision should be solely based on football matters. If that is the case then there's only one answer: Mbeumo has to go to Spurs if he is to leave Brentford this summer.
