I transformed into mermaid for a day at Ireland's only live experience – here's how little ones can too
WITH childhood memories of seeing mermaids in Orlando, I never pictured myself putting on a tail. Here is how I transformed into a mermaid for the day at Ireland's first and only live mermaid experience. Advertisement 7 The facility hosts mermaid live shows, pop-in visits, birthdays and swimming classes Credit: 7 Little ones can get pampered in the glam zone or try a mermaid swim lesson Credit: 7 We dove into the action at MerMazing Mermaids Credit: COLLECT Walking into the undersea world at MerMazing Mermaids in Puddenhill, My eyes were drawn to the custom-built aquarium style pool with viewing windows. I was whisked into a changing room where I squeezed myself into the tightest tail. Next, it was time to add the heavy, rubber-like mermaid fin. Advertisement READ MORE IN FABULOUS After a quick transformation, I wobbled my way to the pool's edge. I was thrown right into the deep end and learned how to I got used to having the tail very fast but swimming down low was my biggest challenge. I pushed myself down as low as I could go, kept arms by my sides and focused on exaggerated movements. Advertisement Most read in Fabulous Exclusive Exclusive After countless attempts, I finally got down deep and felt the tail gliding through the water. Instructor and owner Lynn Harvey admitted becoming a 'mermaid is harder than it looks' - and I certainly agree. I'm a professional mermaid - I used to be afraid of water but now I wear a $5k to perform with stars & make $8k per show She said: 'A girl could be the most fantastic swimmer but if she cannot perform in the window and you cannot connect through the glass it's not going to work here. So she might be work on that. 'Some of them are fantastic in the window but they haven't got the body movements. Advertisement 'But there's not many people that I couldn't train. I'd know in 10 minutes whether they could be trained or not. 'Some of them I could nearly have them ready in two weeks. Others it just might take a few weeks. It honestly depends on the girl.' AUDITIONS Last month, 20 hopeful mermaids-to-be applied to audition to be part of the MerMazing show. Lynn said: 'About 20 people applied and about eight of them just decided 'oh god I can't do it' and backed out of it there and then. Advertisement 'I think I called in six or eight of them who I thought maybe had some potential. So that was out of 20." Some of the auditionees admitted the "reality" of being a mermaid "was a bit too much". Lyn continued: 'So it's really not for everyone because it's so daunting. They're doing this thing that looks great in a video but it's harder. 'I've had girls that come in and they pick it up straight away and I know on session one that they're going to get it. Advertisement 'There's other girls take a little bit longer. There's other girls that have the movement but they're not good in the window and their face can't settle.' ALL IN The facility welcomes 60 guests per show while mermaids greet the audience with balloons and slushies. She said: 'I was scrolling on Instagram and a video came up of a mermaid in a window, very like my pool. And I said that's it and I started researching the next morning.' Advertisement The former professional boxer explained that once she has an idea, she goes all in. Lynn began swim training so she could train how to swim as a mermaid. She said: 'I started training I'd say within three months, my actual swim training. 'Then becoming qualified as a mermaid instructor was probably three months. Advertisement 'Then I started business courses and marketing courses. I did so many courses back to back.' Lynn added: 'I just wanted something new to sink my teeth into, something outside the box.' THE EXPERIENCE After keeping her new biz on the down low for two years, MerMazing Mermaids was finally launched. As well as the mermaid live shows, pop-in visits and birthdays, Lynn and the team recently hosted a free show for senior citizens from local nursing homes. Advertisement The Ballybrack woman said: 'This was a massive success; they had a ball watching our mermaids. 'They met them, sang and danced with them and got photos with them. It was a very moving and an emotional experience for the elderly residents and all of our staff. 'So much so that we had a meeting and decided to volunteer our time and services to host the next event free of charge. 'We aim to do some of these complimentary gigs a few times a year.' ‘You'll upstage the bride' people fume as wedding guest shows off very revealing dress that's ‘way too fancy'
A FASHIONISTA has come under fire after showing off her wedding guest outfit that trolls insist will ''upstage the bride''. Wedding season has well and truly arrived, which means many people have been taking to social media to share their stylish frocks and gowns. 1 People have accused this wedding guest of 'upstaging the bride' with this dress Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk But one woman has left people demanding she changes her outfit for a close pal's garden wedding. The dress code detailed in the digital invite asked guests to "get just a little bit fancy" with chinos listed as an option for men and "dress/skirts" for female attendees. From this brief, the woman opted for a sleeveless floor length silver satin dress with a deep plunging V-neck. And even she seems unsure about her choice, after sharing a picture of her final look in the Alongside the snap, she wrote: "Is this too intense to wear as a guest It's at a garden venue inspired by the French countryside. "I'm concerned this is a bit too much for the venue/garden vibes.. and potentially even a little too close to white? "The bride is a close family friend but I don't want to bother her when she has so much on her mind. "Bridesmaids are wearing burgundy red. Please help me out here; suitable attire or too much?" Most read in Fabulous Her post quickly racked up almost 1,000 comments with plenty of fashion fans having their say. Not only did people warn her that it was "too revealing" and would take attention away from the bride, but others claimed its colour broke a basic rule because it looked near-white. Frankie Bridge slammed by fans again for SHEER wedding guest dress that's 'too much' and will 'upstage the bridge' Wearing ivory as a wedding guest is often considered a cardinal sin and the ultimate insult to the bride. One person said: "Too close to white and it looks too good. You'll show up the bride! Don't wear it to a wedding!" A second wrote: "So you want to wear a wedding dress to somebody else's fairly casual wedding…I think you already know the answer…" A third fumed "no, you'll upstage the bride" while someone claimed: "Too revealing for a will be on you not the bride." "Nope it's to fancy for what the invite says and also it looks like you're the bride", chimed in a fifth. Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble. Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom. Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided. Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream - even if it's not. Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered. Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride. And a sixth echoed: "I definitely thought you were asking if it was too plungy to wear as a bride... then realised you're a guest." Others, however, jumped in to support the wedding guest and urged her to wear the show-stopping frock. One said: "Am I the only one saying the dress is fine for the dress code instructions? Lol." "I'd wear this gown; it's beautiful and you look beautiful in it", another insisted. A third agreed: "It's gorgeous. Not white. Wear it. Always better to be too dressed up than too dressed down." Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "I don't think it matters if it's more casual or not. Just wear it if you like it and don't care what ppl thing if you feel beautiful or sexy in it. It looks amazing on you." Celebs aren't exempt from making fashion faux pas at weddings either. When Dani Dyer wed footballer Jarrod Bowen last week, guest and fellow Love Islander Georgia Steel was slated for wearing what looked like a revealing white dress to her pal's big day. After Georgia posted a snap on TikTok of the lace-trimmed Miss Circle number she wore, the trolls came out in force, bashing her for picking what was in fact a 'soft beige' dress. 'Wearing white to a wedding?' questioned one, while another waded in with: 'Way too bridal for a wedding.' And Georgia isn't alone. Comments included: 'That is not an appropriate shade of blue for a wedding' and 'The number one [rule] of a wedding is don't wear anything close to white.'
