ICC announces schedule for Women's T20 World Cup 2026; India to face Pakistan on June 14 at Edgbaston
Dubai [UAE], June 18 (ANI): The International Cricket Council unveiled the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 schedule on Wednesday, which will be held from June 12 to July 5.
Group 1 features Australia, South Africa, India, Pakistan and two qualifiers. On the other hand, Group 2 comprises hosts England, defending champions New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka and two more qualifiers.
The upcoming edition of the marquee event marks the biggest ICC Women's T20 World Cup yet, with 12 teams, up from 10, vying for the coveted trophy.
The tournament spans 24 days and features 33 matches across seven iconic venues, including Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford, The Oval, Bristol County Ground, and Lord's.
Hosts England will feature in the tournament opener against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on June 12. In a rematch of last year's final, New Zealand, the defending champions, will kick off their campaign against the West Indies at Southampton on June 13.
Meanwhile, Australia will begin their campaign against the T20 World Cup 2024 finalists, South Africa, on the same day in Manchester. The fierce rivalry clash between India and Pakistan will be held at Edgbaston on June 14.
The other key fixtures for India include a clash against South Africa on June 21 in Manchester and Australia on June 28 at the 'Home of Cricket', Lord's.
On the other hand, Pakistan will square off against South Africa on June 17 at Edgbaston and Australia on June 23 at Headingley. Australia's highly anticipated battle against India will be the final group-stage match of the competition.
In Group 2, England will play its group stage matches across five venues, the most of any team. After the tournament opener, the hosts will take on the West Indies on June 24 at Lord's and New Zealand on June 27 at The Oval. Sri Lanka will compete against New Zealand on June 16 in Southampton and the West Indies on June 21 in Bristol.
The top two teams of each group stage will qualify for the semi-finals on June 30 and July 2. The winners will meet for the rights to lift the title at Lord's on July 5.
The last four group-stage teams will be decided from the global qualifiers scheduled for early 2026. Scotland, Bangladesh, US, Nepal and Thailand have already qualified for the ten-team competition. (ANI)

CHENNAI: Days after the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup schedule was announced, India and Pakistan are slotted in the same group for the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup (England) as the fixtures were released on Wednesday. In the ODI World Cup as well, India are scheduled to play Pakistan on October 5 at a neutral venue (Colombo). These announcements comes about a month and a half after the cross border tensions between India and Pakistan. The two countries have not played bilateral cricket since 2013 and only play each other in multi-team tournament. Whether it is Asia Cup or ICC events, they have been grouped together since 2014 as India-Pakistan is perhaps the most-anticipated and watched contest. However, following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, tensions rose between the two countries which led to escalations along the border. This led to speculations over whether India would play Pakistan in multi-tournament events. There have been calls of boycotts as well with some former players supporting it. Though the ODI World Cup will be played in the round robin format which means every team plays each other at least once, the format of the Women's T20 World Cup is different. The teams are divided into two groups. As per the existing agreement, Pakistan will not travel to India and will play all their games in Sri Lanka during the ODI World Cup. The two countries came to the understanding ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy that neither team will travel to the other for any event and will play at a neutral venue. In accordance with that India played all their games in Dubai during the Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan. Now, it remains to be seen whether the agreement continues. As things stand, apart from the two women's tournaments, there is a men's Asia Cup as well as men's T20 World Cup to be played in the next six months. Even though the ICC released the schedules for the games between India and Pakistan in both women's events, it needs be seen how the games go ahead. The BCCI is yet to say anything concrete as of now.

"I'm in good head space": Rishabh Pant ahead of England Test Series
Leeds [UK], June 18 (ANI): As India prepares to take on England in the highly anticipated five-match Test series starting June 20 in Leeds, vice-captain Rishabh Pant reterirated his commitment to contribute in all departments of the game Pant spoke about his mental readiness and unwavering focus on contributing in all departments. 'Personally, I am in a good head space,' Pant said at the press conference. 'Whenever I play cricket, I look to contribute from my side, be it batting, fielding, or wicketkeeping. That is the kind of thought process with which I play cricket all the time, and nothing changes for me coming to England,' he added. Rishabh Pant announced that he will continue to stick to the number five, while newly-crowned Test captain Shubman Gill will take stalwart Virat Kohli's number four spot in the format. After Virat Kohli's retirement, speculations were making rounds around who would take up the mantle of playing at number four, a spot that the legendary Sachin Tendulkar had held. Recent reports placed Gill as the forerunner, and the rumours turned into reality. A couple of days before the series opener at Headingley, Pant confirmed that the 25-year-old will drop from number three and embrace a new role in the red-ball setup. 'I think there is still discussion going on, who's going to play three, but definitely four and five are fixed.
