Most people's LinkedIn profiles are pretty similar: some internships here, jobs and experience there. But for Derik Queen, a new entry has just been added: NBA player.
The former five-star recruit who just finished an impressive year at Maryland was drafted No. 13 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday, June 25 landing with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Queen, who earned first-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors during his first and only year at Maryland, wasted little time updating his LinkedIn profile to reflect his new job position.
"I'm happy to share that I'm starting a new position as a Professional Basketball Player at New Orleans Pelicans," Queen wrote. "Can't wait to touch down in New Orleans and meet the fans!"
His acquisition by the Pelicans came after a draft-night deal with the Atlanta Hawks, who got No. 23 pick Asa Newell and an unprotected 2026 first-round pick.
The 6-foot-10, 246-pound center played all 36 games for the Terps last season, almost averaging a double-double. He'll be fondly remembered in Maryland for his buzzer-beater against Colorado State in the second round of this year's NCAA Tournament.

Jayson Tatum Makes Cooper Flagg Gesture After NBA Draft

Jayson Tatum Makes Cooper Flagg Gesture After NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. To no surprise, Duke star Cooper Flagg went first overall in the NBA Draft on Wednesday and was selected by the Dallas Mavericks. Most considered Flagg to be the top prospect in the draft, and the general consensus was that he would go No. 1. Advertisement The future is bright for Flagg as he is just 18 years old and has the makings to be a star in the NBA. Additionally, the Mavericks were a Play-In team last season, so there is reason to believe he can help the team contend in the 2025-26 season. After the draft, Boston Celtics star and fellow Duke alum Jayson Tatum took to Instagram to reshare a picture of himself and Flagg. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum reshares a post on / Instagram Flagg, a Maine native, has cited Tatum as one of the players he models his game after, and he even named him as the player he is most looking forward to going head-to-head against in the league. "That's a good question. Maybe Jayson Tatum," Flagg said about who he is looking forward to facing in the NBA. "That's somebody that I watched a lot at Duke and then watched a lot again as he went on to the Celtics." As it stands, it seems unlikely the newest Maverick will be able to fulfill this dream next season as Tatum is likely to miss the entire campaign due to his Achilles injury. Still, once the Celtics star makes his return to the court, this will be a game worth circling on the calendar for both fanbases. Advertisement With Flagg now in Dallas, there is a lot to like about the team's outlook as they aim to make it back to the playoffs. Ahead of his rookie season, it is clear that he has one big supporter in the league in Tatum, and only time will tell how he fares against him in NBA action down the line. Mavericks Linked to Ex-Lakers Star After Kyrie Irving News

Mavericks Linked to Ex-Lakers Star After Kyrie Irving News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After suffering a season-ending ACL injury back in March, there was a bit of uncertainty regarding Kyrie Irving's future with the Dallas Mavericks due to him having a $43 million player option to decide on this offseason. Luckily for Dallas, Irving chose to decline his player option to sign a three-year, $119 million contract to stay with the team (h/t Shams Charania of ESPN). Advertisement Now that their first big move of the offseason is complete, the Mavericks will look to continue bolstering their roster, which will likely include top prospect Cooper Flagg, who most believe the team will select No. 1 overall during Wednesday's draft. However, per the latest reports, the Mavericks have other moves in mind, including landing a former Los Angeles Lakers star. Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell (7), guard Kyrie Irving (11), and forward P.J. Washington (25).Jerome Miron-Imagn Images After missing out on the playoffs last season following their NBA Finals appearance in 2024, the Mavericks will look to get back to the big stage, and it all starts with making the right moves in the offseason. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in Brooklyn Nets free agent guard D'Angelo Russell. Furthermore, Stein reported that the Mavericks are "now regarded as a leading suitor" for the former Laker. Russell began the 2024-25 season as a member of the Lakers before getting traded back to Brooklyn in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith. On the year, Russell averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1 steal per game. Advertisement If the Mavericks were to land Russell, they would most notably reunite him with Anthony Davis, who the team acquired from the Lakers in the blockbuster trade involving Luka Doncic. As Dallas looks to become a playoff team once again, their offseason moves are going to be crucial to monitor, which may include adding Russell into the mix.
