Glasgow City Council cyber incident still not resolved
The local authority said an investigation into the incident was continuing, alongside Police Scotland, the Scottish Cyber Coordination Centre (SC3) and the National Cyber Security Centre.
They are still unable to say whether residents' data has been stolen, but have contacted the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) on the presumption that it has.
No council financial systems have been affected in the attack, they said, and they were able to say that no details of bank accounts or credit/debit cards processed by those systems have been compromised.
The affected systems include the council's planning portal, making online access to planning applications is unavailable. They are unable to take online payments for penalty charge notices, and drivers are also unable to submit online appeals. And citizens are unable to book revenue and benefits callback appointments online.

The cyber attack, and work to secure the council's systems in the wake of it, have also left people unable to access birth, death and marriage certificates; comments and complaints; FOI requests; planning enforcement; public procession applications; the Glasgow Film Office location library; the council's bin collection calendar; taxi complaint forms; the diary of council meetings; and forms to organise commercial bulk uplifts.
Security specialists reviewing the incident have confirmed that it was not caused by email, and the council has urged residents to be particularly cautious about any contact claiming to be from them.
Residents have also been targeted by scam messaging asking recipients to pay outstanding parking fines online.
At this stage, the council can't totally discount that this scam involves stolen data but they are confident that it doesn't, with early indications suggesting it is far more likely to be the work of either opportunistic criminals, trying to exploit the disruption to normal online services, or a more widespread scam.
The local authority has been reassuring customers that it doesn't use text messages to chase payment of parking fines and parking penalties can be paid by calling the number displayed on the PCN.

A spokesman for the council said: 'We are aware of what appear to be scam text messages, directing recipients to pay outstanding parking fines online.
'The suspicious messages do not mention Glasgow, or any other location – however, we do know they have been received by at least some people in the city and elsewhere in the city region.
'The city council is currently being impacted by a cyber security incident, which has forced us to take some of our digital and online customer services offline – including the payment of parking penalties.
'We are investigating as a matter of urgency and details of the suspicious messages have been shared with police and national cyber security teams that are assisting us.
'We will never call, email or message you asking for banking details – and, if you do need to pay a parking penalty, you can do so by calling the number displayed on the PCN.'
The council urges those contacted by someone claiming to have their data to contact Police Scotland on 101.

Gang war arrests reach 52 as investigation into feud continues
Police have made two more arrests in connection with an ongoing gang war across central Scotland, bringing the total to 52. Officers executing a warrant in Blantyre on Friday morning arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with an attempted murder on Pitcairn Grove in Edinburgh on May 22. He was also arrested and charged in connection with a drugs offence and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday. A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with wilful fire-raising of two vehicles on Campion Road and Niddrie Marischal Crescent in Edinburgh on June 9. He was released pending further enquiries. Last month, Police Scotland's chief constable urged members of the public to come forward to aid detectives in tracking down those involved. Jo Farrell said: 'My priority has been to ensure that the people of Scotland are safe, so we have put a lot of resource and effort and skill behind Operation Portlage. 'Our drive is to reduce activity of people involved in serious and organised crime in Scotland. 'What we've seen as part of this work is people coming forward, giving the police information, which has helped us tremendously in identifying, targeting those people that are dealing in drugs. 'They're dealing in violence, they're exploiting people who are vulnerable, and they are causing a lot of harm in local communities. 'People are seeing this on a daily basis and it's our drive to eradicate it.' Local and specialist officers continue to carry out extensive enquiries to gather evidence. Teen girl missing from Stonehaven has 'connections to Glasgow'
Ava Allan, 15, vanished from the Kinneff area near Stonehaven on Friday afternoon. Police Scotland has issued an urgent public appeal for help in tracing 15-year-old Ava Allan, who has been reported missing from the Stonehaven area. Ava was last seen around 1.30pm on Friday, July 4, in the small village of Kinneff, roughly 10 miles south of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. She has not been heard from since, sparking increasing concern for her safety and wellbeing. She is described as being around 5ft 6in tall, of average build, with blonde hair. When last seen, Ava was wearing a grey jumper and pink trouser bottoms. Officers say she is known to have links to the Glasgow area and may have travelled there. Police are working around the clock to trace Ava's movements and are urging anyone who may have seen her, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area, to come forward. They are also appealing to Ava directly to make contact and let someone know she is safe. Inspector Rae Christie, leading the inquiry, said: 'We are asking anyone who has seen Ava or knows where she might be to get in touch with us immediately.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The disappearance has shocked the local community in Kinneff and surrounding areas, where residents are now sharing missing person appeals on social media in hopes of helping the investigation. The search has now extended beyond Aberdeenshire, with officers considering the possibility that Ava may have travelled to other parts of the country, including Glasgow, where she is understood to occasionally visit. Anyone with information is being asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 2838 of 4 July, 2025.
