Former Man Utd star in talks to sign for Wrexham, agent confirms

Metro4 days ago
Wrexham are in talks to sign a Premier League icon just a month after he left Manchester United, the player's agent has confirmed.
The Welsh club have enjoyed incredible success on-and-off the pitch since being taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021.
Three consecutive promotions have seen them rise from National League to the Championship, while the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham has given them worldwide fame and attention.
They are now preparing for their first season back in England's second-tier and many believe it is a question of not if, but when they will be promoted to the Premier League.
As a result they have been linked with a number of former top-flight players who are now free agents, like Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy.

And it has now been revealed that they have made an approach to sign ex-United and Tottenham star Christian Eriksen, according to the midfielder's representative Martin Schoots.
'Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like [CEO] Michael Williamson there,' Schoots told the Daily Mail.
'But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.'
Eriksen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013 and established himself as one of the most talented midfielders of his generation, recording 68 goals and 88 assists in 305 games for the club.
The Dane then moved to Inter Milan where he won Serie A, before shockingly suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing on the pitch at Euro 2020.
Clubs: Tottenham, Brentford, Manchester United
Appearances: 310
Goals: 55
Assists: 81
Trophies: FA Cup (2023/24), League Cup (2022/23)
Remarkably, he made his return to football less than a year later with Brentford before moving to Old Trafford where he won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup under Erik ten Hag.
The 33-year-old confirmed in May that he would be leaving the Red Devils upon the expiry of his contract, scoring a penalty in his final match, and is now on the hunt for a new club.
While Eriksen has already ruled out a return to his native Denmark, he has been approached by clubs in Saudi Arabia, the USA, Turkey, Brazil, as well as Wrexham.
While past his prime, Eriksen still has plenty of quality and experience to offer a new club and it would be a major coup for a second-tier side like Wrexham to sign him. More Trending
But former Red Dragons striker Matt Jansen admits he doesn't think the Dane will be interested in a move to north Wales.
Asked which free agents he would like to see at Wrexham, Jansen told Live Casinos: 'Well Jamie Vardy is one. To help him out, maybe Callum Wilson if you can keep him fit. Or Danny Ings.
'So they're the type of players that would enhance their chances, but they're an aging squad and then in a year or two you've got to do exactly the same thing, haven't you?
'So there are a few agents that I certainly think would improve Wrexham. Then you also have Christian Eriksen, but I don't think he'd be tempted.'

Man Utd transfer news: Benjamin Sesko makes decision as target speaks out on move

Manchester United have turned their attention to signing a centre-forward and goalkeeper in the summer transfer window as the Premier League season fast approaches Manchester United still have a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window after signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. ‌ United endured a miserable 2024/25 season and know they need major reinforcements if they are to turn things around. Cunha, a £62.5million addition from Wolves, and Mbeumo, who cost a potential £71m from Brentford, are big signings, but it has been slow going on other fronts. ‌ The most important is at centre-forward, where United missed out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal. They cannot afford another miss and have identified some new targets, including Benjamin Sesko. ‌ Meanwhile, as the pre-season tour of the United States continues, there are plans in the works to improve in the goalkeeping department. Here is the latest from Mirror Football. Sesko 'prefers United' United know how difficult it can be to sign a striker, having missed out on at least three occasions already this summer to rivals. Well, another similar situation could be brewing with RB Leipzig striker Sesko and Newcastle. The Magpies lost out on Ekitike to Liverpool and need to replace Callum Wilson, even if Alexander Isak stays put. They are moving for Sesko and it appears to be a straight shoot-out with United, who are also interested. Local newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung says Sesko's agent is in talks with both Newcastle and United and it could come down to the choice of the Slovenian. In that case, Sesko would 'undoubtedly' pick Ruben Amorim's side, despite the fact they can't offer any European football and Newcastle are in the Champions League. Lammens keen on transfer Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens is keen on a move to Manchester United. Lammens is one of the players United are considering after a difficult campaign for Andre Onana, while Altay Bayindir didn't convince when he got a chance either. Ambitious moves for Aston Villa's Emi Martinez and Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma have gone nowhere, but Lammens is available for €15-20million (£13-17m). ‌ 'Manchester United are one of the best clubs, yes," he told reporters after sporting director Marc Overmars signed Taishi Brandon Nozawa to replace him. "But you never know. It could also be a different club, or who knows, I might stay here, in any case, I try to keep my feet on the ground. When teams like that come along, I think you've earned it.' He added: 'I certainly have enough confidence in myself. I think the most important thing is that my future team, whenever they arrive, has a plan in place. Ideally, that means playing immediately, but it's also possible I'll have to take a step in between. As long as there's a plan, it doesn't matter whether I'm ready for the next step or not. Everyone has their own career, their own path. Even if I don't take the right step right away, I'll get there.' Antony to Al-Nassr ‌ Al-Nassr appear to be coming to Manchester United's rescue with a move for Antony. The Brazilian is one of the outcasts Amorim is desperate to sell, but a move back to Real Betis, following a successful loan spell, never materialised due to financial problems. Now the Saudi Arabian side have made their interest known. Fresh off the back of agreeing a deal for one Premier League flop, in the form of Chelsea's Joao Felix, Al-Nassr also want to do the charity of signing Antony to join Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo up front. Antony would consider such a move, according to his agent, so it looks like a goer. Having already got rid of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, this would leave Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho as the final unwanted players to offload. First-ever Welsh Pizza Festival to take place in Abergavenny

The first-ever Welsh Pizza Festival will take place in the historic courtyards of St Mary's Priory Church on September 20 and 21, with plans to turn the church into a hub of hospitality and shared experience. The event is a collaboration between freelance project manager Dan Thomas, Lee Hammond of the Towpath Inn in Gilwern, and St Mary's Priory Church. Mr Thomas said: "Having moved back home to Wales three years ago, I'm passionate about delivering distinctive events to the local community that can be enjoyed on your doorstep." The festival will showcase some of the region's top pizza makers, including Maggie & Mo's from south west Wales, Ballers from Cardiff, Pig's Pizza from Cheltenham and Bristol, and Niche Pizza from the Towpath Inn in Gilwern. Guests will be able to sample a variety of traditional and inventive pizzas in a relaxed, music-filled setting. Mr Hammond said: "I've been trying to get into pizza festivals in London for years, not even a reply. "It's like Wales doesn't exist on a map. So I did what any stubborn Welsh pizza maker would do… I started my own. "I'm genuinely over the moon to have a team and sponsors onboard that share the same vision, to bring a proper celebration of pizza to our corner of Wales, on our terms." The festival is free to attend, with VIP bookings available for a more exclusive experience.

Man City star Jack Grealish 'targeted by surprise Premier League rival' after falling out-of-favour under Pep Guardiola

Manchester City star Jack Grealish could be set for a switch to a Premier League rival, according to a report. Grealish's time with City looks set to come to an end this summer after he was left out of their 27-man Club World Cup squad last month. His omission followed a frustrating season in which he made just seven Premier League starts. Pep Guardiola has hinted that leaving City could be Grealish's best chance to revive his career and rediscover the form he showed at Aston Villa. And now, Everton are keen to take the 29-year-old on loan ahead of entering a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, according to the Independent. The Toffees' chances of landing the forward are believed to be boosted by his desire to remain in the north. Grealish became a father last September following the birth of his daughter with long-term partner Sasha Attwood, and is now seeking greater stability. A move to Everton would allow him to stay in Cheshire while offering a fresh footballing opportunity, despite having two years left on his £300,000-a-week deal at the Etihad. David Moyes is prepared to build his team around Grealish and offer him the creative freedom he's lacked since his £100m move to City in 2021. The England international has scored 17 goals and registered 23 assists in 157 appearances for City, and played a key role in their treble-winning season. Earlier this month, Grealish was spotted at Oasis' concert in Manchester and said: 'You know what? I love City more than anything,' the England international told a fan. 'And do you know what I love more than anything? City fans. They're the best fans in the world.' Asked about Grealish's omission from the Club World Cup earlier this summer, City boss Guardiola said: 'He had a conversation with the club and they decided it was best. 'Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason why he didn't play last season is of course my decisions. 'We decide that he has to play. The club was honest, he was honest. 'We decide that the best thing is to stay (behind) and have a place that he can feel like he can come back to be the player like he was in the year of the Treble or all his career in Aston Villa. 'Without him it would have been more difficult in the year of the Treble. 'The fact is in the last two seasons he didn't play much minutes. He has to come back to play and have the butterflies in his stomach that he can play every three days, every three days and show again the quality he has.'
