Former Haas F1 boss
Guenther Steiner
has warned McLaren that for them to remain on top, they have to be close to perfect, as they should consider Red Bull's ace
Max Verstappen
their biggest threat. McLaren has the fastest and most reliable car this season and is leading the team championship, and their drivers,
Lando Norris
and
Oscar Piastri
, are also leading the driver standings after doing really well at the Miami Grand Prix.

Gunther Steiner on how McLaren could remain in top spot
In the Miami Grand Prix, McLaren finished first and second, with Mercedes' George Russell landing in third—almost 38 seconds behind them. So far this year, McLaren has only lost one race, which was in Japan, where Verstappen won. During the races, McLaren has been working well when it comes to managing their tyres. But when it comes to qualifying, which is just one lap to set a fast time, they've shown some weakness and can be beaten. So McLaren still has to focus.
Guenther Steiner, Former principal of the
Haas F1 Team
, while speaking on Red Flags podcast said:
"We all know that McLaren's the best car at the moment. In the sprint race, yeah, they won it, but it was not so dominant. '

He said:
"In the race, over distance, [they have] the better tyre management. What are the takeaways? They are the strongest team out there. But they still in qualifying, they didn't get it on pole. There's still work to do for them as well. So I wouldn't say that they are as dominant as some other teams were in the last few years. They still need to get everything perfect to be dominant."
Gunther Steiner warns McLaren of Max Verstappen
While Red Bull's ace Max Verstappen managed to secure pole position in at least 50% of the grands prix this year, with McLaren being very beatable in qualifying. However, he has not been able to fight the McLaren duo this year, as it has been very close, yet too extreme.
Guenther Steiner explained:
"I think, first of all, you've got super Max in a qualifying lap, It's the guy as well. He can pull it off the one lap, because the car gives him one lap. But it's just the tyres. They degrade quicker than the other teams. But in one lap, they can get it done."

No Babar Azam, No Mohammad Rizwan! Aqib Javed backs Pakistan squad: 'This team can beat India in Asia Cup'

*** head coach Mike Hesso, right, speaks as Aqib Javed watches during a press conference. (AP Photo) NEW DELHI: Pakistan on Sunday unveiled a bold 17-member squad for the upcoming triangular T20I series in Sharjah and the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, leaving out seasoned campaigners Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in a major shift of strategy. The squad, led by Salman Ali Agha, reflects the selectors' preference for aggressive batters such as Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The omission of Babar and Rizwan has dominated headlines, but director high-performance Aqib Javed insisted Pakistan are more than capable of thriving without their former batting mainstays. Speaking at the squad announcement, Javed struck a defiant tone, declaring: "This team has the ability to beat India in the Asia Cup. Whether you like it or not, the match between India and Pakistan is the biggest in world cricket. Every player knows this." Poll What is your opinion on the squad's overall balance without the experienced players? It's a good mix of youth and experience. Lacks experience and might struggle. Too risky, could backfire. With India and Pakistan drawn together in Group A, their clash on September 14 in Dubai is already being billed as the highlight of the eight-team tournament. The political backdrop adds further tension, following the Pahalgam terror attack and India's retaliatory Operation Sindoor. Despite calls from sections of India to boycott the fixture, the stage remains set for one of the sport's fiercest rivalries. Javed expressed confidence in the squad's balance and readiness: "Our squad can beat any team. Everyone is ready. Everyone knows the situation surrounding the two countries. But we don't need to put extra pressure on them." Head coach Mike Hesson, meanwhile, offered insight into Babar Azam's exclusion, noting that the star batter has been asked to work on key aspects of his T20 game. "There's no doubt Babar has been asked to improve in some areas, particularly against spin and in terms of his strike-rate," Hesson said. He added that Babar's upcoming Big Bash League stint with Adelaide Strikers would be crucial in proving his evolution as a T20 player. Pakistan will first test their new-look squad in a triangular T20I series involving Afghanistan and the UAE (Aug. 29–Sept. 7 in Sharjah) before heading into the Asia Cup (Sept. 9–28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi). With Javed backing the young guns to deliver and the India clash looming, the stakes could not be higher. Pakistan's squad for Asia Cup 2025 Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Haris, Salman Ali Agha (captain), Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Sufiyan Muqeem, Abrar Ahmed. Pakistan selector fires shot before India clash at Asia Cup, drags volatile ‘situation surrounding two nations' in PC

The Asia Cup 2025 tournament is still 20 days away, but all eyes are on the Group A encounter between India and Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai. The situation has been tense between the two countries ever since the Pahalgam terror attack and retaliatory Operation Sindoor. Calls are growing in India asking the BCCI to boycott the game against Pakistan, keeping the natural interest and mood of the nation in mind. However, as of now, the stage is set for the game to go ahead. India could likely face Pakistan thrice in Asia Cup 2025 Pakistan selectors and head coach Mike Hesson announced the 17-member squad on Sunday. Salman Ali Agha will lead the side. There is no place for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. However, Pakistan chief selector Aqib Javed feels a lack of experience won't deter his team as they have the arsenal to beat India in the eight-team tournament. The Men's Asia Cup will begin on September 9 in the UAE. India, Oman, Pakistan and the UAE are placed in Group A, while Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka make up Group B. The tournament's final will be played on September 28 at the Dubai International Stadium. India has the hosting rights for the tournament. 'This team has the ability to beat India in the Asia Cup. Whether you like it or not, the match between India and Pakistan is the biggest in world cricket. Every player knows this,' Javed told reporters on Sunday. Everyone knows the situation surrounding the two countries. But we don't need to put extra pressure on them,' he added. Situation regarding India and Pakistan Ever since the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists, the calls have been growing in India to boycott Pakistan at every level, be it sports or entertainment. After the Operation Sindoor, which targeted military camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), it was believed that BCCI would also take a hard stance against cricketing ties with the neighbours. However, many were shocked when Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi announced the schedule for the Asia Cup. India and Pakistan might potentially square off on three occasions in the tournament, provided they make it to the Super 4s and the final. Several MPs have also raised their voices in the Indian parliament, asking the BCCI not to proceed with the game against Pakistan. Recently, the India Champions were set to play the Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. However, the organisers cancelled the group stage game following social media outrage. Later, India Champions pulled out of the semi-final against Pakistan, giving the latter a walkover.

'Didn't brush his teeth for days': Ex-England cricketer reveals hilarious tactic used by wicketkeeper to annoy batters

Phil Tufnell and Jack Russell of England (Images via Getty Images) Former England cricketer Phil Tufnell has revealed a rather unusual tactic once used by his wicketkeeper Jack Russell to unsettle opposition batters. In a light-hearted discussion, Tufnell said Russell would deliberately avoid brushing his teeth for a couple of days before a match. 'My wicketkeeper, Jack Russell, didn't use to brush his teeth for a couple of days. He said he wanted to put the batters off when he was standing up to the crease. Lots of little shenanigans go on there,' Tufnell revealed on BBC, leaving listeners amused at the extent wicketkeepers sometimes go to in order to gain an edge. They play a crucial part in controlling the energy on the field, especially through their chatter behind the stumps. Poll How important is a wicketkeeper's chatter behind the stumps? Essential for team morale Helpful but not crucial Not important at all From playful banter to strange personal routines, wicketkeepers often find their own ways to get under a batter's skin and keep their teammates engaged. Whether it is through non-stop chatter, sharp instructions, or quirky antics, their influence goes far beyond the scorecard. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
