NEW DELHI: Congress leader Udit Raj on Thursday claimed that Thiruvananthapuram MP
Shashi Tharoor
is trying to malign the oldest party by saying that it has done nothing.
Tharoor's statements at Panama, lauding India's counterterror strikes, have sparked strong reactions from Congress leader Udit Raj.
Calling the Operation Sindoor "fake," Raj said that Tharoor defended the lack of security that happened at the Pahalgam incident, where 26 people lost their lives.
"Why are you differentiating between my stand and my party's stand? Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera also reposted what I said yesterday..." the Congress leader said while talking to ANI.
The tussle between Congress and Tharoor escalated after the latter lauded India's counter terror strikes.
This remarks have upset the top brass in Congress.
Responding to a question, whether Tharoor will be suspended from the party, Raj said, "That depends on the working committee, the national president, and Rahul Gandhi. If he makes incorrect statements and tries to erase Congress's history, then I am standing with Congress. I am not worried about personal gain; I am ready to sacrifice myself. He is trying to malign Congress by saying the party has done nothing.

You are glorifying PM Modi's fake surgical strikes.
Defending, saying that security lapses happen everywhere, is a crime... You are defending even the office, defending the lack of security. Is this in national interest? Since before and after independence, they were never in national interest. Today it's all about Modi, Modi — all about the army. Modi Ji is going around wearing a uniform. Like Modi Ji went to fight? The credit of the army, the valour of the army should remain with the army.
It should be given to the army."
The row stems from Tharoor's recent remarks at a multi-party delegation meeting in Panama. The Thiruvananthapuram MP specifically referenced the 2016
Surgical Strike
and 2019 Balakot airstrike, highlighting these operations as significant examples. These military actions, as he pointed out, showed India's determination to pursue terrorist targets in Pakistan, regardless of the Line of Control or international boundaries.
In his speech, the Congress MP highlighted India's evolving military response to terrorism, noting significant shifts in strategy. He discussed three major counter-terrorism operations that demonstrated India's increasing willingness to strike across borders.
He stated, "What has changed in recent years is that the terrorists have also realised they will have a price to pay; on that, let there be no doubt. When, for the first time, India breached the Line of Control between India and Pakistan to conduct a surgical strike on a terror base, a launch pad - the Uri strike in September 2015.
That was already something we had not done before. Even during the Kargil War, we had not crossed the Line of Control; in Uri, we did, and then came the attack in Pulwama in January 2019.
This time, we crossed not only the Line of Control but also the international border, and we struck the terrorist headquarters in Balakot. This time, we have gone beyond both of those. We have not only gone beyond the Line of Control and the international border.
We have struck at the Punjabi heartland of Pakistan by hitting terror bases, training centres, and terror headquarters in nine places."
Tharoor's remarks emphasised the progression from the initial Uri strike to more extensive operations, culminating in strikes across multiple locations in Pakistan's Punjab region.
Interestingly, BJP came forward and defended Tharoor's statement after Udit Raj criticised him on Wednesday as well for his speech in the Panama city. Earlier Union minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP member Shehzad Poonawala came forwad and defended Tharoor's statement. Rijiju questioned the party's priorities.

Trump intended to gift 'Poo-tihn' 'American Bald Eagle Desk Statue', 8-page secret document found in Alaska hotel

White House said the document, left behind at a Alaska hotel, was just a multi-page lunch menu. After President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska Friday, eight pages of a document which was supposed to be secret, were found at the business center of an Alaskan hotel -- possibly left behind by the US team by mistake. NPR reported about the papers adding that it's not known whether they were authentic documents but they included US State Department markings and were found on a public printer. The hotel is about 20 minutes away from where Putin and Trump convened at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, NPR reported. The documents revealed that Trump intended to gift Putin an "American Bald Eagle Desk Statue" and it's not known whether it was gifted to him. The document shared precise locations and meeting time schedules along with the phone numbers of US government employees. The document listed the names of Russian leaders with phonetic spellings, making Putin "Mr President Poo-tihn", NPR reported. NPR posted a menu that included a 'green salad' with 'champagne vinaigrette' paired with surf and turf consisting of a filet mignon with 'brandy peppercorn sauce' and 'buttery whipped potatoes and roasted asparagus' with halibut, a fish found in Russia's arctic waters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly dismissed the papers as a "multi-page lunch menu" and suggested leaving the information on a public printer was not a security breach.

Some governors acting like mafia hitmen against citizens: Tushar Gandhi

T'puram: Criticizing the role of governors, Tushar Gandhi , the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi , said that some governors are like hitmen used by mafias against citizens. "There are two types of governors in the country. One type is sent to BJP-ruled states to enjoy a retired life. The second type is sent to opposition-ruled states with instructions to disrupt governance. These governors act as super vice-chancellors and disrupt higher education, forgetting their duties to protect the Constitution and improve democracy," Gandhi said. Gandhi's remarks came while he was inaugurating a national seminar organized by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad here on the challenges faced by universities. "The educated upper class in India is becoming more irrational, falling victim to the false propaganda experiments conducted by communal forces. They have been made to believe that Hindus are in danger and will soon be wiped out. These forces ensure that the majority supports any atrocities they commit, paving the way for the persecution of minorities," he said. The education system, which lacks rational thinking and promotes enslavement, aids this process, Gandhi added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He said that Centre's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 maintains a flawed perspective on education and creates a system that further enslaves students. "Today's education hides realities, eliminates rational thinking, and fosters a slave mentality, becoming a tool to propagate the interests of those in power. People in every region must take responsibility to counter these issues. States should have the right to develop their educational systems, creating an education model that aligns with their culture and region," Gandhi said. NCERT module row: ‘Congress in pain because truth of Partition coming out,' says BJP

The Congress on Saturday accused the ruling BJP of 'interfering' with the functioning of the institutions and 'distorting' the country's history after a special module, released by the NCERT to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', held Jinnah, the Congress, and then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten responsible for India's Partition. Calling the Congress the 'Rahul-Jinnah party', BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia took on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, and alleged that his thinking was similar to that of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) The BJP on Saturday slammed the Congress for questioning the NCERT's module on the Partition of India and said the opposition party is in pain because the 'truth' has been brought out. Replying to media queries on the issue, Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that the partition had taken place due to the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. He also took on the RSS, calling it the 'biggest villain' in the country's history. Hitting back, Bhatia said the Congress is in pain because the NCERT has brought a 'bitter truth' of India's Partition out for the students to study. 'The Rahul-Jinnah party was the first to feel the pain. And it won't be wrong to say that Jinnah and Rahul have the same thinking. Both have become synonymous with each other,' he told reporters at the BJP headquarters here. 'Jinnah had a poisonous thinking of appeasement and communalism. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have the same thinking,' he charged. The BJP spokesperson said it is the right of the people to know why the Partition took place and whose failure it was. It happened because the 'ambition of the Congress and its leader' had taken precedence over national interest, he said without naming anyone. 'We all know that 'akhand Bharat' was partitioned on the basis of religion. This black spot in our history was a gift from the Congress,' he said. Bhatia said that while the people of the country and the BJP believe that the country should be run by the Constitution, the Congress thinks it should be run by Sharia law. 'Jinnah also said that there should be Sharia law. The Congress says that the reservation should be given to people on the basis of religion. This is what Jinnah also said,' he added. On the attack on the RSS, Bhatia said, 'Those who always betrayed India are raising questions on such a patriotic organisation whose aim is to preserve the heritage of India and make it stronger.'
