Malaysia's first iPhone-Windows sharing solution
IN this hyper-connected age, proprietary tech ecosystems have created invisible walls between devices, making simple actions like file sharing more complicated than they should be.
HONOR, known for its user-first innovation, aims to change that with the launch of HONOR Connect, a new feature designed to bridge the high walled gardens of insular ecosystems.
It is set to offer a seamless, cable‑free experience for effortless data exchange and collaboration across platforms.
These closed ecosystems were initially created to provide convenience through seamless integration and compatibility while also encouraging brand loyalty.
But this is also a double-edged sword, making it harder for users to break out of these closed systems, also known as a lock-in.
For instance, a user whose phone is part of one ecosystem may hesitate to buy a laptop from another brand due to barriers such as learning a new operating system (OS) and interface and managing separate sets of data across different devices.
While some users are content within one ecosystem, others prefer specific device features not available in their current setup, making cross-platform interoperability a growing need.
Over the years, users have turned to email, cloud drives or even messaging apps like Whatsapp, WeChat and Telegram for file sharing across platforms.
While helpful, these workarounds often require the same app on both devices and come with drawbacks: extra steps, slower transfer speeds, especially for large files and potential cloud storage subscription costs.
A smarter, simpler way to share
HONOR Connect addresses these pain points directly. It is a robust cross-platform file-sharing tool that enables wireless, direct data transfers between HONOR devices and third-party brands.
It supports two-way transfers of files, photos and videos, offering a level of convenience and compatibility that has been missing from multi-device workflows.
What sets it apart is its ability to bridge traditionally siloed systems. This breakthrough simplifies the digital experience for professionals and consumers who switch between devices throughout the day.
To use it, users simply need to download the HONOR Connect app. On the receiving end, a compatible HONOR device can use its built-in HONOR Share capability to establish a high-speed, bidirectional transfer link.
The tool currently supports various file types including documents, images, videos and more.
The HONOR 400 Series roadshow at IOI City Mall spotlighted HONOR's push for smarter connectivity with HONOR Connect and the MagicBook Pro 14.
It is worth noting that while HONOR Connect functions as a standalone app for iOS and Android users, it requires at least one HONOR device to complete the transfer, as it is natively built into system software of supported devices.
Meaning users cannot transfer files directly between, for example, an iPhone and a non-HONOR Android phone using HONOR Connect alone.
The feature is currently available on the HONOR 400 series smartphones, HONOR Pad 10 tablet and the newly launched HONOR MagicBook Pro 14 – HONOR's latest sleek, powerful laptop built for productivity and performance.
HONOR Connect enables seamless, wireless file sharing between devices, bridging the gap between ecosystems for a smoother digital experience.
Designed to do more
Set to go on sale from June 13 at RM4,999, the HONOR MagicBook Pro 14 comes with a 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD configuration in a striking white finish.
It packs a 92Wh Lithium Polymer battery, the first of its kind in a 14-inch laptop, delivering up to 12 hours of typical use on a single charge.
With 100W HONOR SuperCharge, users can get up to 47% charge in just 30 minutes, reaching full charge in about 68. Despite its large battery, the laptop weighs just 1.37kg and is 15.9mm thin, making it ideal for portable productivity.
The HONOR MagicBook Pro 14 combines sleek design with powerful performance for users on the move.
Its refined design, inspired by vine-leaf curves and finished with pearl electrophoresis, adds a premium tactile feel.
Under the hood, HONOR's dual-mode intelligent cooling system reports improved heat dissipation by 8.6%.
A built-in 65W performance mode toggle makes it capable of handling triple-A games, video editing, design software and heavy multitasking, all encompassed in a compact frame.

Firm in Black Hawk fiasco awarded military airbase calibration job, say sources
Published on: Wednesday, June 25, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 25, 2025 By: K Parkaran, FMT Text Size: Last November, the defence ministry cancelled a lease of four Sikorsky UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters from Aerotree Defence and Services Sdn Bhd after the company failed to deliver the aircraft. (Aerotree Defence and Services pic) PETALING JAYA: Questions have been raised over the Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF) decision to award a new contract to a company which failed to deliver four Sikorsky UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters barely eight months ago. According to a letter, Aerotree Defence and Services Sdn Bhd was awarded a contract to calibrate the instrument landing system equipment for fixed-wing aircraft at three military air bases recently. Last November, the defence ministry cancelled a RM187 million Black Hawk lease contract it signed with Aerotree after the company failed to deliver the aircraft despite three date revisions. The four helicopters, leased for five years, were intended to serve as a platform for the army's Air Team Nucleus, supporting both training and operational flight missions. One source expressed 'shock' upon learning of the award, barely eight months after the Black Hawk 'fiasco'. Advertisement 'The defence ministry must explain how this is possible as we understand that another firm was initially awarded the calibration contract but lost it suddenly,' the source told FMT. FMT is withholding the name of the second company, pending a comment. Seven months ago, defence minister Khaled Nordin said the government's deal with Aerotree was called off after the company failed to meet its October delivery deadline. FMT has reached out to Aerotree CEO Halim Othman and RMAF for comment. Foreign-registered aircraft and crew Meanwhile, another source questioned the identity of the aircraft and air crew attending to the calibration of airfields at Labuan, Butterworth and Gong Kedak. The source also questioned whether Aerotree or the UK-based calibration company were in possession of a Malaysian air operation certificate (AOC) issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). He said RMAF was obliged to clarify the matter, including whether the air crew possess valid work permits to carry out the work in the country. According to the source, the assurances sought were necessary as the entry and exit of foreigners from Malaysian air bases would pose a security risk. He claimed the calibration flights started on June 16 and are expected to be completed by today. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Russia to launch govt-backed chat app, raising surveillance fears as WhatsApp and Telegram sidelined
MOSCOW, June 25 — Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday signed a law authorising the development of a state-backed messaging app integrated with government services, as Moscow strives to reduce its dependence on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. Russia has long sought to establish what it calls digital sovereignty by promoting home-grown services. Its push to replace foreign tech platforms became more urgent as some Western companies pulled out of the Russian market following Moscow's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Russian lawmakers say the state app will have functionality that the likes of Telegram and Meta Platforms' WhatsApp do not. Critics say the fact that Russia will exercise state control over it poses risks to privacy and personal freedoms. Mikhail Klimarev, director of the Internet Protection Society, a Russian digital rights group, said earlier this month he expected Russia to slow the speeds of WhatsApp and Telegram to encourage people to switch over to the new app. — Reuters

Published on: Wednesday, June 25, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 25, 2025 Text Size: Brian (left) and Padi Bukit (right) is a hidden gem of Sabah's agriculture sector. (Pic: Lano Tan via Berita Harian) Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCC) Sabah has pledged full support to government efforts in commercialising Padi Bukit, a traditional highland rice variety with significant cultural and economic potential. Led by President Datuk Dexter Lau, MCCC Sabah announced its commitment to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry and Lembaga Padi dan Beras Sabah (LPBS) in transforming the traditional crop into a competitive agricultural product. Trade Affairs official Brian Ho Joon Chuan described Padi Bukit as a hidden gem of Sabah's agriculture sector, pointing out the opportunity to integrate modern business approaches with traditional farming practices while preserving rural community heritage. The chamber outlined comprehensive support spanning product development, branding, innovative packaging and marketing campaigns to elevate Padi Bukit's market profile. Through its business network connections, MCCC Sabah aims to secure strategic partnerships placing Padi Bukit products in mainstream supermarkets, organic specialty stores and retail platforms. To address logistical challenges faced by small-scale producers, the Chamber will assist LPBS in coordinating efficient supply chain strategies, connecting farmer cooperatives with transporters, warehousing solutions and retail distributors to improve goods flow from remote agricultural areas to urban markets. Advertisement Internationally, MCCC Sabah is exploring opportunities to introduce Padi Bukit to overseas markets through its network of business partners and importers, particularly in China and Asean countries. The Chamber expressed openness to long-term collaboration with LPBS and federal trade agencies for export readiness in Middle Eastern, European and North American markets, where consumer interest in sustainable, heritage-based food products continues growing. 'These combined efforts reflect MCCC Sabah's commitment to being more than a trade association but a true partner to government initiatives that aim to empower rural communities, preserve traditional agricultural knowledge and enhance Malaysia's reputation as a producer of high-quality, culturally rich agricultural products,' Brian said. The initiative aligns with national agendas of food security, rural revitalisation and sustainable agriculture, positioning Padi Bukit as a potential flagship agri-product for both domestic and global markets through public-private sector collaboration. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
