England Under-21s make perfect start to European Championship defence
England Under-21s started the defence of their European Championship title with a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic in Slovakia.
Goals either side of the break from Harvey Elliott and Jonathan Rowe had put Lee Carsley's side in control.
Daniel Fila reduced the deficit in the 50th minute, before England defender Charlie Cresswell headed in a third from a corner with 15 minutes left.
The Young Lions – who beat Spain two years ago to win the European title for a third time – had made a bright start in their opening Group B fixture at the the MOL Arena in Dunajska Streda.
Job done on matchday one.

Newcastle defender Tino Livramento made an early break down the left, with his ball in was palmed away by Czech goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek before captain James McAtee scuffed his shot wide.
Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson was also lively on the left flank, cutting inside to fire a rising shot which was tipped over.
The Czechs threatened in the 12th minute when Martin Suchomel sent a cross from the left through the England six-yard box, which Vaclav Sejk just failed to connect with.
Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle then made a smart reaction save from Stepan Chaloupek's powerful header, pushing the ball over, after a free-kick was swung into the England penalty area.
After soaking up plenty of pressure, England took the lead in the 38th minute.

Hutchinson drove forwards from the left before laying the ball out to Livramento. The defender's looping cross through the six-yard box was picked up at the back post by McAtee, who laid it back for Liverpool winger Elliott to fire a low shot into the far corner.
The Czech Republic were almost straight back on level terms when a corner was flicked on by Krystof Danek and the ball bounced off England defender Jarell Quansah, but Beadle got down to make a save on the line.
England – without the likes of Liam Delap and Jobe Bellingham who will be at the Club World Cup – doubled their lead three minutes into the second half.
Livramento's low cross was touched home at the near post by Monaco forward Rowe ahead of Czech defender Filip Prebsl, with the ball diverting in off goalkeeper Hornicek.
The Czechs, though, soon pulled a goal back in the 50th minute when Fila got in front of Livramento to power a free header past Beadle from Sejk's lofted cross.

England boss Carsley made an attacking double change with 20 minutes left, sending on Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri to replace Rowe and Birmingham's Jay Stansfield for McAtee.
Nwaneri almost made an instant impact when he cut in from the right and curled a low strike goalwards, which was deflected past the far post.
Toulouse centre-back Cresswell restored England's two-goal cushion with 15 minutes left when he showed great strength to get up and power down a header from Alex Scott's corner.
Beadle then made another smart save from Czech substitute Adam Karabec in stoppage time.

Having made his Spurs debut at the end of the last season, the highly-rated 17-year-old kicked on and showed glimpses of his outstanding potential during a topsy-turvy campaign in north London. Moore made 19 appearances in all competitions for his boyhood club, with five of those coming in a Europa League campaign that ended with Tottenham beating Manchester United to win a first trophy since 2008. 'With Ange, I'm thankful to him,' Moore said. 'He gave me an opportunity to go and show people what I could do. 'Now I'm just excited to get back and hopefully go and impress the new manager. Try and show what I can do, really. 'I started away at Brentford, where obviously he was in charge, and I've played against his team before. 'I've heard that he's a good man and he's a good manager. One of the boys here (with the Under-19s) works under him and says good things about him, so I'm just excited to get going under him, really.' Frank is sure to be an interested observer as Moore looks to help England win the Under-19 Euros for the third time. The 17-year-old could be one of the stars of the tournament judging by some of his Spurs displays, with team-mate James Maddison likening him to Neymar after October's Europa League win against AZ Alkmaar. Burrito proves tasty for favourite-backers on the Knavesmire
With £70,000 up for grabs in the Seat Unique Handicap, a competitive field had been gathered. But John and Thady Gosden's four-year-old stood out both in the racecard and in the paddock beforehand. James Doyle – on his only ride of the afternoon – overcame a tricky draw to put his partner into contention with two furlongs to run and set about chasing See That Storm, another improving type. With half a furlong to go Burrito was well on top and the 9-5 favourite went on to win by a length and three-quarters. The winner holds an entry back at York in next month's the John Smith's Cup. 'He had a sticky draw there so we had a bit of work on early, but once we got across to the ones on our inside he did come back nicely enough,' said Doyle. 'The further he went the better today. We'll see what the guys want to do but there's an obvious target back here, so I'll leave that to them.' Tom Goff, who oversees owner George Strawbridge's European breeding stock, said: 'He's a fantastic model. He was a bit raw last year when he was gelded at the end of it as he had a high testicle. 'You didn't need to do it for any other reason, it just had to be done as he's got a lovely pedigree. 'He didn't have the ideal draw there and had to bide his time, but he managed to slot in off an adequate gallop and he's gone through the gears up the straight. He did it really well. 'There's an obvious race we'll have to have a look at, but hopefully in the future there's a stakes race or two we can have a look at.'
