Viktoria Plzen launch appeal over horror schedule before Rangers clash
And boss Miroslav Koubek revealed he banned his players from having a beer to celebrate their comeback win in Switzerland. [[Rangers]] face the Czechs on Tuesday at Ibrox after they held out for a 1-1 draw in Greece against Panathinaikos and Viktoria completed a 3-1 victory at Servette, despite losing the first leg at home. But Viktoria are furious at their gruelling schedule ahead of the game. They flew to Prague yesterday and have to fly to Mlada Boleslav today ahead of their game on Saturday at 5pm, before returning to Plzen ahead of a flight to Glasgow on Monday. And they are exploring the possibility of a late call-off after Koubek slammed their fixture list. He said: "The players are euphoric, but our schedule is a killer. "I don't know if I should even unpack my bags, there's no time for anything, not even to study Rangers. "Some associations make it easier for clubs and postpone their league round at such a moment. With us, it is automatic only in the case of the play-offs. Read more: "We will certainly be asking the question and I would welcome some help from the Czech football authorities. "It's extremely complicated for us now. We don't meet the requirement set by FIFA that players have 72 hours of rest between matches. We now finish at midnight on Wednesday night and are supposed to play at 5pm on Saturday. "We fly home on Thursday, we will leave for Mlada Boleslav on Friday, we will be home on Sunday and we will fly again on Monday. "The players wanted to celebrate, but I told them they weren't even allowed a single beer. I ordered them to go straight to bed." And Viktoria star Lukas Cerv praised his side's commitment after their win in Geneva. He said: "Everyone, down to the last member of the support staff, gave absolutely everything. "They scored after two minutes, but we didn't panic and we knew we would create chances. "It was a struggle, but we deserved to go through over the two legs and now we have to concentrate on playing Rangers."

Who do Rangers face in Champions League 3rd qualifying round after beating Panathinaikos & when is play-off round draw?
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE first part of the job is done, but things don't get much easier any time soon. Russell Martin's men made it past Panathinaikos over two dramatic legs of Champions League action, and now attention turns to what's next. 2 Russell Martin's side are a step closer to the group stages Credit: PA 2 The Champions League trophy is up for grabs Credit: Getty Rangers will face either Servette or Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round - but the Light Blues STILL don't know for sure which one it will be. That game kicked off at 8pm tonight with Servette 1-0 up from the first leg and Gers are now eagerly waiting to see who they face. The Swiss side took an early lead to move two goals ahead in the tie before Plzen hit back - and they now LEAD on the night. Once again, they'll be at home first against either the Swiss or the Czechs on Tuesday, August 5. Then they'll have to go on the road on August 12/13 to get the job done in Czech Republic or Switzerland. Before that match even starts, the Gers will also know their play-off permutation, with the likes of Club Brugge and Benfica potential opponents. The draw for the Champions League play-off qualifying round is made in Nyon this MONDAY, August 4. That will pair the Gers or Viktoria Plzen/Servette with the winners of either Nice/Benfica or Brann/Salzburg/Club Brugge. Fenerbahce take on Feyenoord in the other Champions League clash but, like the Gers, they too are set to be unseeded in the play-off round as things stand. No matter what happens in Champions League qualifying, Rangers have now GUARANTEED Europa League group stage football at the least. More to follow... Ireland come from behind to down Czech Republic in Euro Hockey II opener
Ireland put in a big third quarter performance to come from behind and beat Czech Republic 5-3 in their EuroHockey Championship II opener in Portugal. A brace of goals each from Johnny McKee and Lee Cole, with Matthew Nelson nabbing the other, gave Ireland the victory after the Czechs had led by two goals twice in the match. After a bright start, Czech Republic scored goals in the first and second quarter before Johnny McKee got Ireland off the mark after great build-up play by Daragh Walsh. Czech Republic restored their two-goal advantage early in the third quarter but Ireland responded well as McKee scored his second shortly afterwards. McKee was busy as he earned Ireland a penalty which Lee Cole scored to draw the sides level, and the Green Machine were ahead for the first time when Matthew Nelson flicked home Sean Murray's pass. Another Lee Cole penalty pushed the gap to two with Ireland looking more likely to add a sixth than concede a fourth in the closing moments. Ireland will be back in action against Italy on Tuesday before concluding their Pool A campaign the following day against hosts Portugal, with the top two sides earning a place in Friday's semi-finals.
