They could either apply directly for retotalling or apply after receiving a copy of the answer scripts. Teachers mentioned that the new process will ensure that only students with a deficiency in totalling marks will apply for retotalling."Total marks will not change if the candidate applies for retotalling. So, more students used to apply for retotalling. Scores will change after revaluation as a team of teachers will evaluate the answer scripts," a teacher said. The process of direct retotalling was less costly as students did not need to apply for a copy of their answer sheets, another teacher said. When medical admissions were based on Class XII marks, around one lakh candidates used to apply for retotalling and revaluation of answer scripts. Fee regulatory committee hikes postgraduate medical fees by Rs 1L to Rs 8L in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Gujarat's fee regulatory committee (FRC) announced the revised fee structure for both govt and management quotas of self-financed medical and dental colleges on Sunday and Monday. According to the announcement, the hike in fees is in the range of 8% to 12%, translating to a Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh increase for govt quota seats and a Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh increase for management quota seats. NEET-based admission process for medical and dental courses is set to begin soon in the state. The new fee structure will be applicable from this academic year (2025-26) and will remain in effect for the next three years. This decision affects 19 undergraduate (MBBS) and 10 postgraduate (MD/MS) medical colleges across the state. "The revision accounts for 7% inflation and 5% administrative cost increases. This means students and their parents must be prepared to pay significantly higher fees for medical education in Gujarat under both govt and management quotas," said an educationist. "The govt quota fees for the MBBS programme range from Rs 8.3 lakh at NHL Municipal Medical College to Rs 11.2 lakh at Parul Medical College and Pramukh Swami Medical College. " The govt quota PG seat at NHL Medical College, which previously cost Rs 7.93 lakh annually, now costs Rs 8.88 lakh. At the higher end, the govt quota fee at H M Patel Institute increased from Rs 20.28 lakh to Rs 21 lakh. The fee for management quota seats at NHL rose from Rs 26.94 lakh to Rs 30.17 lakh, while the most expensive management quota seat is now at Surat Municipal Corporation Medical College, which increased from Rs 37.15 lakh to Rs 41.61 lakh — a spike of Rs 4.46 lakh. The FRC last revised fees in 2021. The committee has clearly stated that each year's batch will have to pay the same fee throughout the duration of their course, locking the fee at the time of admission.
