Samsung's AI photo editor now lets you fake DSLR shots with a tap

TL;DR Samsung has updated its Galaxy Enhance-X photo app with two new AI features.
As well as better upscaling, Focus Shift blurs the background to mimic DSLR-style shallow depth of field.
The update is exclusive to Samsung phones running One UI 8.
Samsung is finally widening the rollout of One UI 8, and the manufacturer is now giving you another reason to want it. A new update to the Galaxy Enhance-X app — Samsung's AI-powered photo editor — adds two cool features that are exclusive to devices running One UI 8.
According to SamMobile, version 16.0.01.8 of Galaxy Enhance-X introduces 'Focus Shift' and 'Crop & Upscale,' which both use AI to enhance your photos. Focus Shift lets you tap anywhere on a photo to bring that area into sharper focus while blurring the rest, mimicking the depth-of-field look of a DSLR. It's a natural fit for portraits or product shots.
Crop & Upscale uses AI to increase photo resolution by up to 5x, which should be handy for zooming in or cleaning up older, lower-quality images. While Enhance-X already offered some upscaling, this new version adds more control, with resolution presets from 1x to 5x.
Originally launched in 2022, Enhance-X also includes tools for removing blur and reflections, reducing moire, and brightening low-light shots. These new additions aim to push the app closer to being a true one-tap pro editor.

Readers told us how they use AI in their job search — or why they avoid it

Business Insider recently asked readers about their experiences with the job search process. You told us what you find off-putting in a job posting, and what sticks out to you as red flags in a job interview. We also wanted to know: How do you use AI in your job search, if at all? The readers who answered our poll and reported using AI in the process said they do so primarily for résumés and cover letters. Many readers said they'd ask AI to check their résumés against a job post and tell them what changes they should make to best align with the description, such as organizing bullets in the order in which items appear in the job post or emphasizing the keywords from the listing. Grant Maxfield said he asks AI to review a job listing and summarize the most important qualifications and duties that he should focus on in his application materials. He'll also feed AI a job description alongside his prior résumés and cover letters, and ask it to draft new ones tailored to the specific position. Many respondents stressed that they double-check what AI gives them, and some mentioned having experiences where AI hallucinated a fictitious job experience on their résumé or mixed up their responsibilities between different roles. "I never used the wording ChatGPT spit out, but I definitely used it to figure out where I was lacking in useful information and where I had too much," said Sarah Oglesby. Nicole McCormick said she uses AI to write thank-you emails that draw on the company's culture, values, and mission statement as taken from its website. Clare Apps also uses AI to personalize follow-up messages and to do mock interviews to prepare. "The AI conundrum is painful on both sides," she said. "A part of me is annoyed that recruiters are annoyed by job seekers using AI to assist with cover letters, résumés, and profiles. It's a cake-and-eat-it scenario." Not everyone finds it useful for résumés and cover letters, though. One reader said she only asks it to suggest possible jobs she should apply for because "it hasn't been very useful yet; I write a better résumé and cover letter than AI does at this point." And other readers avoid using AI in their job search. Kelley Murray has heard it can disqualify you if you're caught having used AI on an application. Liz Stout said she's never tried it before but that a coworker mentioned using ChatGPT to write a cover letter, and "that sounded like cheating." "I don't use AI," said Brian Bissonnette. "I put the effort in myself."

How to watch OpenAI's GPT-5 announcement livestream today (updated)

OpenAI announced a livestream for 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) on Aug. 7, 2025, writing on X: "LIVE5TREAM THURSDAY 10AM PT." You might have noticed a typo — the "S" usually found in the word "livestream" is actually a 5. That's right — OpenAI appears is teasing the highly anticipated launch of its new AI model GPT-5, including rumored features like better coding abilities, larger context windows, improved video generation with Sora, improved memory, and more. Despite recent reports that GPT-5 was being delayed yet again, all signs point to "Go" for an August release, and you can see for yourself during the livestream later today. We've seen a steady stream of GPT-leaks this week, with Microsoft seemingly confirming the imminent arrival of new models such as GPT-5, GPT-5-mini, and GPT-5-nano, per Bleeping Computer. How to watch OpenAI's livestream today To watch the GPT-5 livestream, head to OpenAI's YouTube channel, where the tech giant hosts its streams. You can also watch the YouTube video embedded on this page. Disclosure: Ziff Davis, Mashable's parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.
