Mahindra University holds interactive sessions for students
Speaking to TNIE, Rakesh Sreedharan, Head of Marketing and Admissions, said, 'We began as an engineering college in 2014 and achieved university status in 2020. Today, we offer over 50 undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes across seven functional schools, with a student strength exceeding 5,000. Our emphasis is on internationalising education through collaborations with prestigious institutions such as CentraleSupélec (France), Cornell University's SC Johnson College of Business, Virginia Tech, and the University of Florida.'
The university offers distinctive programmes like B.Tech in Nanotechnology, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, and Computation and Media. 'Regardless of their core branch, students can explore emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, and smart sensor technologies through a wide array of electives,' Rakesh added. Highlighting Mahindra University's interdisciplinary approach, Associate Professor Venkata Dilip Pasupuleti said, 'From the third year, students can take electives across engineering, management, law, and design, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and teamwork.'
Chef K Thirugnanasambantham, Professor and Dean of the newly-launched School of Hospitality Management, explained the unique design of their curriculum. 'We are the first in India to integrate an interdisciplinary approach into hospitality and culinary arts education, aligning our curriculum with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specialised courses like Asset Management Strategy, Revenue Management, Real Estate Management, and Psychobiology of Taste are part of the programme,' he said.
University officials said Mahindra University is positioning itself as a hub for industry-aligned, aiming to prepare students for global careers.

Joseph said that the seminar would focus on development issues that Kerala has been addressing since the pandemic. More than 50 experts in various disciplines would share their thoughts on different aspects of the subject over the two days. 'The seminar also aims to foster an informed academic and policy discourse on how Kerala's recent budgets has functioned as an instrument for responding to developmental challenges and as a blueprint for structural transformation of the State,' GIFT said in a statement. Kerala, a top achiever in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has several top rankings to its credit especially in sectors like education, health and social welfare. But the State is also facing developmental challenges. The State's susceptibility to climate change-induced natural calamities has increased in recent years. Against this background, the seminar aims to deliberate on issues of how the State's perspective on development has evolved in the context of the challenges. M.A. Oommen, distinguished professor, GIFT, will preside over the inaugural session.

Plan to increase Poondi reservoir's storage capacity pending for four years
CHENNAI: The Water Resources Department's (WRD) proposal to raise the water storage capacity of Sathyamoorthy Sagar reservoir, also known as the Poondi reservoir, has been pending for the past four years despite preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The department had planned to increase the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) by two feet – from the present 35 feet to 37 feet. This move, which would help increase the reservoir's storage from 3.231 tmcft to 3.971 tmcft, adding an extra 0.74 tmcft of water continues to remain on paper till now. Locals claim that besides increasing drinking water sources for the city, the project is also expected to mitigate flooding risks in a few villages located close to the reservoir. Speaking to TNIE, a senior WRD official said the DPR prepared last year estimated the project to cost Rs 552.60 crore. However, the report has still not been taken up with the state government since it is still under the consideration of the WRD. The official said that feasibility studies have already been done at a cost of Rs 48 lakh for the project. 'Work of surveying the existing ground level for the entire existing embankment, proposed foreshore bund area and reserved forest area adjoining the reservoir are completed. Once we get approval from the finance department, we submit the DPR and execute the task immediately,' the official added.

Since then, the Ministry of External Affairs and the UN team in India have been working jointly to identify and plan SDG-focused projects under the the India-UN initiative, UN agencies will assist partner governments in identifying SDG-linked priority areas. At the same time, India will support implementation through training provided by ITEC-affiliated institutions, as per the MEA statement.
