I was totally oblivious to just how useful it is for a dress to have pockets until my lovely mum very kindly treated me to the Black Gingham Starlight Midi Dress from Nobody's Child last summer.
It was as flattering and feminine in the flesh as I'd expected — and best of all, by the end of its debut outing to the pub, I'd had an epiphany; dresses with pockets were well and truly the way forward.
And a recent study by Nobody's Child has revealed that I'm certainly not alone in thinking this way — with three-quarters of the 1000 UK women surveyed saying that they wish that more dresses and skirts had pockets. So, in response, they've launched a brand new Dresses with Pockets collection page.
A functional yet stylish feature, pockets take away the need for a bag if you're travelling light, and keeping valuables like your phone on your person makes them far less likely to end up lost or stolen. Plus, there's also just something really instinctive about being able to put your hands in your pockets — especially if you're like me, and never know what to do with your hands when posing for photos.
Ready to find the perfect dress with pockets for you? From effortlessly stylish day dresses, to more formal options that feel perfect for a summer wedding, here are some of our top Nobody's Child picks.
The ultimate playful and feminine silhouette, it wouldn't feel right not to include the iconic Starlight dress. Best of all, it comes in 22 different colours, prints, and patterns — but this pinstripe green option feels spot-on for SS25. BUY NOW FOR £95

Mint green is having a moment — so it's no surprise that this dress is trending. With its thick bra-friendly straps, square neckline, and relaxed skirt, it's the ultimate easy-to-wear midi — go casual with pumps or sandals, or dial things up a bit with a few statement accessories. BUY NOW FOR £69
Everybody needs a staple white midi dress like this one to help see them through summer. It's made from lightweight textured organic cotton, boasts flattering features like a panelled waist and frilly detailing, and has surprisingly deep pockets for storing daytime essentials like your phone and favourite lip balm. Top postcard print picks from New Look, Nobody's Child and more
Minimalist fashion fans, look away now, this trend it all about dopamine dressing, playful prints and bold colourways As a fashion writer, I've learned to spot a trend from a mile away, and this summer there's one print that's been dominating my social media, high street window shopping sessions and online scrolls. There's no denying that for SS25, it's all about postcard prints. What is the postcard print? Well, I'm glad you asked. This playful design is characterised vibrant boxes or stamp-shapes adorned with feel-good, summer emblems such as fruit, suns, shells, tiles, florals, palm trees, olives - it's the fashion equivalent of a picky tea of all your warm-weather favourites, packaged in the style of a retro holiday scrapbook. The combination of colour, cheerful prints and a healthy dose of nostalgia make this a real standout trend, and one that's incredibly wearable. That said, it's not a style movement for those who favour minimalism and neutrals, which is worth bearing in mind. However, who's not to say they won't be tempted by some of my top picks. I've picked out four of the best postcard printed pieces available now on the high street, from favourites like Joanie, Nobody's Child and New Look. From dreamy dresses to cool and casual co-ords, here are four picks that prove postcard print is this summer's hero trend. Joanie Ithaca Postcard Print Boilersuit – £79 The postcard print was practically made for Joanie's vintage-inspired designs, and their Ithaca boilersuit is an easy, one-and-done outfit that makes summer styling a breeze. Made from organic cotton with a soft stretch, it's tailored for all day comfort without sacrificing style. Coming in sizes 8-26, the one-piece boasts a classic collar and short sleeves with an all-over watercolour postcard print. But don't be fooled into believing this is only good for warm weather dressing, because I've seen many fashion enthusiasts layer these boilersuits over a long sleeve t-shirt or rollneck for a spring or autumn vibe. You might struggle to style the sunshine-y print in the depths of winter, though. The elasticated waist is a big bonus, making it a flattering fit for all body types, while the pockets make it as practical as it is pretty. Plus shoppers have been raving about it, with one commenting: 'Love this jumpsuit, the watercolour print is beautiful, the material is quality and it fits like a dream.' Another added: 'Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! The print is beautiful the size I went up a size otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get on and off as I'm big busted and a big girl. It look so gorgeous on and I can't wait to wear it out.' Nobody's Child Starlight Midi Dress – £110 For something a little less kitsch, Nobody's Child offers a more contemporary take on the trend with their bestselling design - the Starlight dress. Available in sizes 6-18, it wins wearers over with romantic puff sleeves, covered buttons and a waist panel that skims in all the right places. The low v-neck is super flattering, and it even has pockets, meaning it ticks all the boxes of a summer statement piece. While Nobody's Child's website doesn't have any reviews, we did find some at Simply Be and John Lewis, with one shopper commenting: 'I'm absolutely obsessed with this dress. It fits perfectly - I usually wear a size 14, but the size 12 is spot on! The material is ridiculously soft and feels amazing against my skin. Plus, the gorgeous fruit stamp design is just the perfect touch. I'm so in love with this purchase! Five stars isn't enough - I'd give it ten stars if I could.' However, another added that the linen-heavy fabric, while ideal for the warm weather, is prone to creasing. They added: 'The dress is so different, in a good way, and the quality is fantastic. My only concern, which is my fault as I didn't read all of the description, is that there's a high content of linen which obviously makes the material very creased. Because there's so much dress, it'll be quite a chore to iron, or I could pay to get it professionally ironed, which would make it the dress that keeps on taking! Apart from that, it is a lovely, unusual dress which I'd definitely recommend.' New Look Cream Postcard Print Midi Dress – £34.99 As beautiful as the Nobody's Child dress is, there's no denying it carries a more premium price tag, as such, I've found a more affordable alternative in this New Look Cream Postcard Print Midi Dress for £34.99. Featuring tie detail at the neckline and flowy sleeves, it's decorated with a gorgeous postcard print. Coming in sizes 6-20, it's an easy piece to throw on and feel instantly pulled together. Its only review so far is five stars, with a happy customer praising its "flattering' fit, 'good length', and 'lovely light material." ASOS DESIGN Postcard Print Shirt and Trouser Co-ord – £24 (top), £26 (trousers) If dresses aren't your style, a co-ord is a super cool way to wear the trend, and ASOS is delivering all the chilled-out, coastal-grandpa vibes with this two-piece set. It comes in four sizes ranging from XS to L and is made from a lightweight linen-look fabric. The trousers offer a wide-leg silhouette and bloat-friendly drawstring waist, while the shirt's revere collar makes for a relaxed but put-together look. It's a really versatile two-piece that looks amazing worn together or split up. Perfect for packing light - or just looking like you did.

'I think woman are strong regardless' - John Wick Ballerina director
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Len Wiseman, the director of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, has revealed why this movie isn't deliberately feminist. It was announced in 2019 that a female-led spin-off of John Wick had been commissioned, with Keanu Reeves set to be an executive producer on the film. With Ana de Armas at the helm as the lead, Eve Macarro, the movie picks up chronologically during the third John Wick film and further explores the Ruska Roma, the Russian group that trains children to be assassins. The story follows Eve's training as an assassin and her journey of personal revenge as she seeks out the group who murdered her father in front of her as a child. In a hotel in London, Metro sits down with Wiseman for a wide-ranging interview about the film, and straight off the bat, we discuss whether he considers the film 'feminist'. 'It's an action movie with a really powerful and strong lead, and I wouldn't say so much…,' he reflects and tries to find the right way to express his sentiment. 'I've been doing female-driven characters in action really from the beginning of my career,' he says, referencing his action horror series Underworld that starred his ex-wife Kate Beckinsale. 'I really don't put too much of a weight on it, I just think women are strong regardless. 'So I'll sayit's not intentionally, to me it is an action movie with a really kick ass lead that is a female character.' He emphasises that lines such as 'fight like a girl' – a phrase that recurs in the film and is even the title of the song as the credits roll – are not an attempt to pander to being a movie making a statement. 'To put a flip on [fight like a girl] and make that a very powerful thing, rather than a teasing phrase or what have you, that's absolutely intentional. But, I didn't want it to ever feel pandering to that. Just be real to it.' The director's undiluted enthusiasm about the film is evident, and he's eager for more female-led action movies, but not ones that are originally written as male characters. Ana, who played the character Paloma in the James Bond series, previously explained why she felt 007 shouldn't be played by a woman: 'Why don't we have more movies about Paloma? Let James be James and John Wick be John Wick. We'll do our thing,' she told The Independent. Wiseman nods and says he 'totally agrees,' with her sentiment. 'If they turned into like Jane Bond. I'll just go, 'What are you doing?' No. 'I would love to see more original, female-driven action movies, and I'm always glad when there's one that really works.' He adds that when it comes to women's roles in these movies, he also doesn't believe women-led action films should only be directed by women. 'It's if you were to ask, if a male-led action movie should only be directed by a man. I don't think that either,' adding that James Cameron and Katherine Bigelow are both fantastic directors who are capable of directing incredible action movies, regardless of gender. 'I think it's the best person for the job, is really what it should be. That's kind of my thought on it.' He added that he has pet peeves about when these characters are made sometimes indestructible , though. 'Often, I'll see that the female character is like indestructible in a way that is almost overtly kind of sexy and powerful and it just leans in too much into the sexiness of it.' He added that the really great action characters are not the ones who pose after a fight scene, but the ones who look knackered. 'Keanu will go through this amazing sequence, and after he's done, he's just f*****g tired,' he said, Comparing Reeves to Harrison Ford, and Mel Gibson's Martin Riggs he adds: 'Instead of landing like a Marvel character, they just eat it on the ground and then get up and keep fighting.' During the production of the film, there were rumours that John Wick director Chad Stahelski had to 'reshoot' the film. Stahlski rubbished the rumours at the time, and while chatting to Metro, Wiseman cleared up the story. 'Here's the truth of it, which is a personal thing, I ended up having a health crisis, and I had to go to the hospital for a little bit, and it was a really scary time. But everything is good and great. 'And thank God Chad was there. And we were always planning on splitting up the schedule in terms of some of the additional stuff that we were shooting to just try to get everything possible for the audience.' More Trending He said that at most, the rumours were 'annoying', but he was grateful things worked out the way they did, as they were able to make an incredible film. 'So it's annoying. I guess if anything, like you hear reshoots and you go, 'Oh, that's bad.' There were additional shoots, and then I had to go to the hospital for a little bit. So thank God it worked out the way it did.' 'The important thing is, the movie is incredible. I had a great time, Chad and I worked, you know, in partnership with it. And it is a movie I think people are gonna absolutely love.' Ballerina is in cinemas now. Got a story? 9 fashion and beauty picks to snap up before they sell out
The items our shopping team are snapping up ASAP, from Joanie, Roman and more Although it might not feel like it outside, June is officially the beginning of summer. Our shopping team are keeping their fingers crossed for sunshine throughout the rest of the month, so they can snap up the summer pieces on their wishlist and get some actual wear out of them. For those who need a little shopping inspiration, our fashion writers - Nisha, Phoebe and Tiffany - are here to help. This week's lineup includes a Nobody's Child boho co-ord that queen of boho chic, Sienna Miller, would approve of and a to-die-for linen trophy jacket spotted on Rochelle Humes. We're also lusting after a pair of Double Buckle Sliders from Boden, which is perfect for poolside wear and hot UK days thanks to the rubber sole. In terms of beauty, it's all about the glow this season, thanks to a shimmery jelly eyeshadow from Paul & Joe. So, without further ado, let's get into it. Nisha's picks: Nobody's Child tie-dye co-ord - from £49 I've never really tapped into the boho trend, but this summer could be the time. I spotted this tie-dye printed co-ord on Nobody's Child earlier this week, and haven't stopped thinking about it since. The set comprises a long, floaty, tiered skirt and a dainty, spaghetti-strap cami top. The skirt has an elasticated waist and pockets (£99). and the matching camisole (£49) rouches in at the waist. It encapsulates fashionable yet effortlessly chic. I plan on wearing the navy set in the UK on hot days and when I go on holiday in September. However, it would also look nice paired with cowboy boots at a festival. If I were to pinpoint a downside, it would be the length of the skirt. Despite being advertised as midi length, it's ankle length on the model, who is 5'7. It will be too long for people who opt for petite lengths (usually 5'4 and below) unless they don't mind paying extra to get it tailored. Next's linen trophy jacket - £64 Rochelle Humes has been expanding her collection with Next ahead of summer, with lots of new additions landing on the website this week. One such release is this neutral-hue Cotton-Linen Blend Trophy Jacket. It's always wise to have a jacket on hand for unexpected downpours, and the blend of cotton and linen material makes it lightweight enough to ensure wearers don't overheat. It has a structured fit, a collarless design and four faux pockets. Size 6 is currently out of stock, but sizes 8-26 are available. One shopper opted to size down, writing: "Lovely material. Very on-trend. Great length to wear with jeans, a skirt or trousers. It can be dressed up or down. It's quite a generous size. I tried size 14 first but sized down to 12." Another buyer noted issues with the sleeve length but resorted to folding them up instead of returning them. On Next's website, Rochelle models the linen trophy jacket with light-wash jeans and ballet flats. Roman's maxi dress - £48 This floaty maxi dress boasts over 100 reviews online, with many reviewers praising its flattering fit. It's a versatile frock that can be easily dressed up or down with different accessories. It's designed with short sleeves, cinches at the waist, and a floor-length skirt. There are several colours and prints to choose from, including green polka dots, a blue paisley print, purple florals, blue florals, teal florals, and a pink ditsy floral. One purchaser bought the green polka dot version, describing it as figure-hugging. They wrote: "I love my new dress. It's very comfortable and fits perfectly. I love the pockets and the feel of the material. It hugs my new figure perfectly and makes me feel like summer has finally arrived." However, one customer noticed a fault with theirs. The shopper bought the frock in the purple floral print and spotted an unhemmed 'bunch of material' gathered within the skirt. They explained: "Because it was a full skirt, I hadn't noticed it when I tried it on. It took me a while to sort it out, which was very frustrating. Had I noticed it at the onset, I would have returned it as faulty. So, ladies, check your hem. Never been disappointed with Roman before." Tiffany's picks: Stine Goya x Umbro Collection - from £40 We all remember the Lionesses' stunning triumph at Wembley in 2022, and to pay homage to the Women's Euro Cup and female athletes, Danish contemporary fashion brand Stine Goya has partnered with Umbro to launch a special capsule, embracing vintage aesthetics with a vibrant fashion twist. The collection consists of six styles: a T-shirt, a long-sleeved T-shirt, a skirt, a mini dress, a windbreaker, a pair of pants and a pair of socks - fusing nostalgic 90s and early 2000s silhouettes with a bold play on colour, material combos, and customised patches and prices starting from £40. There are feminine touches, such as the ruched gathered waist on the traditional unisex windbreaker, and this Striped Logo Motif T-Shirt, £170, features a colourful Stine Goya palette reminiscent of a football jersey. My personal favourite is the Jersey Tee Dress, £200 - a sporty dress that I can see shoppers wearing as trendy streetwear or a tunic. It features a ribbed V-neck collar and contrasting piping details, whilethe back showcases the statement: 'Good Things Shouldn't Take Time'. Paul & Jo Jelly Eyeshadow - £19 I'm not adventurous when it comes to eye shadow colours, especially in summer, as makeup brands launch pastel colours, which make my eyes look puffy. But Paul & Jo's new Jelly Eye Colour has left me intrigued. It is a gel-texture eyeshadow with pearls for a wet-look lustre and shimmering sparkle, and it is cool to the touch. The sorbet-like makeup jiggles like jelly, but a slight finger dab is enough to apply the product. Available in pink and lilac tones like Sparkling Bubble (001) Fruit Sorbet (002) and Summer Flash (003), they're easy to use compared to traditional eyeshadow powders or crayon sticks. I applied it straight to the eyelids for a subtle and natural look, but I can also layer it on top of powder shadow for a more dramatic effect. The semi-solid texture is travel-friendly and spill-proof, but it might be unhygienic for those who prefer to use makeup tools instead of fingers. Liquid eye shadows, such as the Armani Eye Tint, could be a better option due to their wand applicator, and they retail for £32 on LookFantastic. Barry M Glazed Gel Chrome Eyeshadow, £5.99, is similar but in a runny texture as compared to Paul & Jo's. Boots Mini Bag Get Holiday Ready - £32 One thing that gets me excited is packing for holidays; I like to take it as an opportunity to try out new makeup and skincare products. Boots recently introduced the Mini Bag, filled with £124.50 worth of airport security-approved beauty products, and it retails for £32. With six minis and one full size, this Boots edit has covered most of what I'd need on a holiday. It has a 20ml Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Acid moisturiser and Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base to keep the skin hydrated throughout the day. For me, mascara is my ultimate desert island makeup, and the mini MacStack is a lash-defining volumising one. The bag also comes with two perfumes - Sunflower Pop from Floral Street and Sol de Janeiro's Cheirose 62. It would be better if they could swap out one as some shoppers found it a 'waste', with one saying: "I don't need two perfumes; I end up giving one away to my mum." Next's Little Luxuries Beauty Box, £18, features five products, including a L'Occitane shower oil, a mini eyeshadow compact from Iconic London, Benefit mascara, an Urban Decay setting spray, and a hair product from Living Proof. Phoebe's picks: Joanie Clothing postcard jumpsuit - £79 The stunning postcard print is set to be one of the most popular patterns this summer, with many retailers using it in their garments. Joanie Clothing has incorporated a cute design into a short-sleeve jumpsuit ideal for the warmer months, which I can see myself wearing repeatedly. Available in sizes eight to 26, the Ithaca Postcard Print Short Sleeve Boilersuit costs £79 and is one of the best uses of the pattern I've seen so far. The retailer has used the design in a colourful, vintage-inspired watercolour that's sure to look stunning, whether worn during the daytime or for evening occasions. The lightweight garment is made from organic cotton and has an elasticated channel at the back of the waist. It has buttons running down the front and useful pockets at the hips. The jumpsuit has received an overall rating of five stars, with one delighted buyer saying: "Love this jumpsuit, the watercolour print is beautiful, the material is quality, and it fits like a dream! I would 100% recommend." It's worth noting that a couple of shoppers advise sizing up. Boden buckle sliders - £46 Boden's colourful Lyla Double Buckle Sliders have been on my wishlist since I first laid eyes on them. They're currently available to pre-order for £46, with the footwear shipping on June 10. The sliders come in four vibrant colourways that will look gorgeous throughout the summer months. This includes red and pink, green and pink, orange and pink, and lilac and green. The footwear comes in sizes 36 to 42 and has two adjustable straps with large buckles. Each slider has a chunky sole, which Boden says will ensure 'no slipping and sliding'. In addition to being perfect for wearing in the UK during the summer months, the Buckle Sliders are the ideal footwear for a holiday. Wear them around the pool, to the beach, or for a day of exploring on a city break. They'd also look fabulous worn with a floaty dress for dinner on a sunny terrace. Philip Kingsley's Density Discovery Set - £54 from £78 As we age, it's pretty normal for our hair to lose its thickness and volume. Philip Kingsley's Density Discovery Set is here to help with shampoo, conditioner and scalp drops designed 'to slow hair loss' while giving tresses a fuller look. What's more, it's currently on offer, down to £54 from £78 - that's a tidy saving of £24. Clinical trials back up the effectiveness of this shampoo. It cleanses the scalp, strengthens hair strands, and provides long-lasting fullness, making it ideal for those struggling with thinning hair. Its ingredients include hydrolysed pea peptides, which provide antioxidant, hydrating, and smoothing benefits. The conditioner also contributes to improving the health and condition of fine hair with its lightweight formula. The scalp drops contain a peptide blend and caffeine to stimulate the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. But Philip Kingsley isn't the only solution for thinning hair. Champo is another brand worth checking out, with its Pitta Volumising Shampoo (£20) promising immediate, long-lasting fullness and body. In fact, it's so popular the brand sells one every minute.
