The IndusInd Bank on Thursday said that the lender's Internal Audit Department report showed that it had incorrectly recorded Rs 674 crores as interest for three quarters of fiscal 2025.The report, submitted on May 8, also found unsubstantiated balances aggregating to Rs 595 crore in "other assets" accounts of the bank, the Hinduja Group-owned lender said."The IAD has since submitted its report on May 8, 2025. Based on the report, it is noted that a cumulative amount of Rs. 674 crores was incorrectly recorded as interest over three quarters of FY 24-25, which was fully reversed as on January 10, 2025," said the bank in a stock exchange filing.The new accounting lapses were reported by The Economic Times in its May 15th edition. ET had reported that a whistle‑blower's letter had flagged new anomalies. The letter raised concerns about a Rs 600-crore discrepancy in the accrual of interest income in the bank's microfinance portfolio, and an instance of inappropriate relationship between a senior executive and an employee, who was sacked and subsequently rehired by this executive."The IAD has submitted its report on May 8, 2025 that there were unsubstantiated balances aggregating to Rs. 595 crores in 'other assets' accounts of the Bank. These were set off against corresponding balances appearing in 'other liabilities' accounts in January 2025," said the statement.While disclosing the discrepancies, the lender said that the audit department has also examined the roles and actions of key employees in this context. "The Board is taking necessary steps to strengthen internal controls, fix accountability of the persons responsible for these lapses and will take action as appropriate," said IndusInd Bank through a stock exchange filing.The findings add to IndusInd's growing woes and come just weeks after its CEO and deputy CEO resigned following a derivatives accounting lapse that hit the bank's net worth.

In a major success for anti-LWE operations in central India, four notorious Maoists surrendered before security forces in Gariaband district, marking a significant setback for the insurgent network active in the region. Among those who laid down arms was Deepak a.k.a. Bhima Mandavi, a divisional committee member (DVCM) with a reward of Rs 8 lakh. The total bounty on the surrendered cadres stood at Rs 19 lakh, senior police officials said. The other three included Kailash a.k.a. Bhima Bhogam, a member of the Protection Team; Ranita a.k.a. Paiki, an Area Committee member; and Sujita a.k.a. Uren Karam. With rewards ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, all four had been active in the Dhamtari-Gariaband-Nuapada Division since 2013. Acting on Intelligence shared by the surrendered Maoists, security forces recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash from suspected hideouts. The operation also yielded 31 live cartridges, two empty magazines, detonators, eight BGL rounds, 12 bore ammunition, and a trove of Maoist literature believed to be used for indoctrination and recruitment. Their surrender is being seen as a strategic breakthrough, especially in the wake of recent setbacks suffered by the Maoists organisation, said the officials. Based on information provided by the surrendered cadres, security forces recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash, 31 live cartridges, two empty magazines, eight BGL rounds, detonators, 12 bore ammunition, and a cache of Maoist literature. Officials believe the cash was part of the group's operational funding, hidden in forested hideouts to support logistics and recruitment. The development comes months after a high-impact offensive in January 2025, when 16 Maoists — including Central Committee member Jairam alias Chalpathi—were killed in a joint operation near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. That operation, backed by drone surveillance and coordinated intelligence, has since triggered a visible breakdown in the Maoist command structure. Raipur Range IG Amarendra Mishra and IG Naxal Operations Ankit Garg, confirmed that the organisation is facing a deepening crisis. The financial and leadership vacuum has accelerated the pace of surrenders. Cadres are demoralised and increasingly choosing to abandon the movement, Mishra said. Security agencies believe the cumulative impact of leadership losses, financial disruption, and sustained pressure is pushing more Maoists toward surrender. With each defection, the operational grip of the insurgents continues to loosen—offering a measure of relief to communities long caught in the crossfire. The latest surrender not only weakens the Maoist infrastructure but also signals a shift in morale, suggesting that the state's strategy of coordinated action and rehabilitation is beginning to yield results.

Fake credit limit call centre busted in Delhi, 6 held in Rs 85 lakh cyber fraud
The police recently busted an illegal call centre masquerading as a credit limit extension service, leading to the arrest of six cyber fraudsters in Delhi, Haryana, and Telangana. The operation exposed a network that allegedly duped citizens of nearly Rs 85 lakh by siphoning money from their credit cards and bank accounts. The case came to light after a Dwarka resident, Virender Kumar, 42, lodged a complaint in June, stating that he had received a call regarding the generation of a PIN for his newly issued private bank credit card. Soon after, he discovered an unauthorised transaction of Rs 2.81 lakh. A case was promptly registered, and investigators began tracing the money trail. Technical surveillance revealed that calls to victims originated from Vikaspuri, while mule bank accounts and SIM cards were being managed from Panipat, Bhatinda, and Hyderabad, said the police. Raids were carried out simultaneously in Delhi and Telangana, leading to the arrest of six men identified as Vijay Kumar Sharma, the alleged kingpin, Moolchand Mishra, Gaurav, Hemant, Amit, and Pradeep Sahu. Vijay Sharma, the police said, ran the fake call centre with the help of four women employees who initially contacted potential victims before handing over calls to him. The police said Vijay Sharma, 46, is a commerce graduate with an LLB degree and software training, while others had relatively modest educational backgrounds, ranging from primary school to Class 12. From their possession, 41 mobile phones, a laptop, a router, and diaries containing bank customer data were seized. Investigators said 95 complaints linked to the seized phones were found on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal, collectively reflecting a fraud of approximately Rs 85 lakh. The team cracked the case by analysing IP addresses, IMEI numbers, UPI transactions, telecom trails, and banking details, said the police.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari , on Sunday affirmed that India's logistics cost will come down to single-digit by the end of logistics cost of India is 14-16 per cent, China's is 8 per cent, and Europe and America have 12 per cent each, Gadkari said, addressing the event in the national capital that marked the inauguration of two major National Highway projects by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."I want to assure the Prime Minister and all of you that before the end of 2026, the logistics cost of our country will come in the single digits, which will be very important for our exports. Prime Minister Modi today inaugurated two major National Highway projects worth a combined cost of nearly ₹11,000 projects -- the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) -- have been developed under the Government's comprehensive plan to decongest the capital, with the objective of greatly improving connectivity, cutting travel time, and reducing traffic in Delhi and its surrounding 10.1 km long Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway has been developed at a cost of around Rs. 5,360 crore. The section will also provide Multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, DMRC Blue line and Orange line, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot.
