A popular family-run holiday park in Edinburgh has received global recognition after it received consistent glowing reviews from their customers .
Linwater Caravan Park in Newbridge was named a 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award winner, placing the park among the top 10 per cent of hospitality businesses in the world, reports The Daily Record.
This impressive award was given to the site after they achieved consistently high guest reviews received over the past 12 months.
Established in 1998 by the Guinan family, the Edinburgh holiday park offers spacious touring and camping pitches, self-catering static caravans and luxury lodges, all in a tranquil setting with easy access to the capital and nearby country walks.
To mark the occasion, Linwater bosses have announced a £200,000 investment in a new static caravan terrace, set for completion in summer 2025.
The project is transforming a previously unused corner of the site into what's being described as a 'stunning accommodation space', featuring two new luxury lodges and six brand new static caravans.
Katie Guinan, owner of Linwater Caravan Park, said: 'We are absolutely delighted to receive the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award for 2025.
'This recognition means so much to us as a small, family-run business, and it's a real credit to the hardworking and dedicated team we have here. We pour our hearts into this place, and it's incredibly rewarding to know our guests value what we do.
'Since opening our doors in 1998, we've remained committed to offering a warm welcome, high-quality facilities, and peaceful surroundings for our guests.
"Whether visitors are pitching up on our touring site, enjoying a self-catering stay, or planning to stay in our luxurious lodges, our aim is always the same, to help people make happy holiday memories in comfort and tranquillity.'

The park currently holds an impressive 4.8 rating on Tripadvisor, with recent reviews praising the peaceful location, spotless facilities, and thoughtful amenities.
One reviewer shared: 'The caravan park is in a quiet location (there's some aircraft noise but no busy roads nearby). We stayed for a week in one of the self-catering lodges. The lodge was clean, comfortable and well equipped, a proper home from home. This is the second time we've stayed here and will definitely book again.'
They added that Edinburgh was easily accessible by park and ride just a few minutes away, and recommended a visit to the nearby Jupiter Artland.
Another guest who stayed with their touring caravan praised the calm atmosphere and facilities, writing: 'It was pretty quiet, people respecting the noise restriction times.
"The shower block was spotless when we arrived… only one negative about the site itself and that is the shower timer, water stays on for about 30 seconds so you have to be quick or have a shower buddy with you!
"Other than that, I'd give the site 5 stars. The amenities were amazing, the fact they supply a kitchen with a microwave is something we've not come across before and is perfect for those in tents.'
They also highlighted the park's location as ideal for visiting landmarks like The Kelpies, the Falkirk Wheel and the Forth Bridge.
Another review, from a campervan guest, added: 'We loved it and would absolutely come back. Beautiful shower facilities! The shared kitchen (also beautiful) had so much information about how to get into Edinburgh and local takeaways. 100 per cent would recommend. We drove to the tram stop (Islington?) and got the tram into the city from there, free parking and super easy.'

Narberth restaurant named among UK's best by national awards

The National Restaurant Awards took place on Monday (June 9), celebrating "the brilliance and vibrancy of the UK restaurant scene, honouring the best chefs and operators across the country". Awards handed out at the annual event included: National Restaurant of the Year Gastropub of the Year Chef of the Year Cocktail List of the Year Wine List of the Year Opening of the Year Best Restaurant in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (four individual awards) A list of the UK's top 100 restaurants was also revealed, featuring one Pembrokeshire restaurant - Annwn. The best restaurants in the UK The best restaurants in the UK, according to the National Restaurant Awards, are: Why Annwn is among the UK's best restaurants Annwn was ranked the 68th best restaurant in the country at the National Restaurant Awards. The Narberth-based restaurant describes itself as "a Welsh food movement" that pays homage to its Welsh surroundings and landscapes. It was recommended by the National Restaurant Awards for its "hyper-local food with a sustainable conscience". The Awards website explains: "Chef-patron Matt Powell serves a single 10-course menu that changes during the seasons using ingredients that are not only local to the area, including many that are foraged close by - often within walking distance of the restaurant - but those that support sustainable producers and the country's wild ecosystems. "A meal at Annwn starts with a selection of snacks, that might include bread 'cooked on the planc' and seasonal offerings such as cured and air-dried meats before getting to the heart of the matter with a procession of dishes that celebrate Pembrokeshire's bounty and which feature some unusual and not often used ingredients. "Plating is meticulous, with dishes served on a wide variety of crockery and items from the natural world to accentuate the restaurant's natural approach. "By contrast, the dining room is less formal than the food's presentation might suggest, with wooden tables and chairs, dark slate flooring, and vintage furniture creating a rustic but comfortable space in tune with its surroundings." Previous dishes at Annwn have included: Kilpaison oyster with purée, estuary plants, and an oyster cracker A broth of velvet swimmer crab, St Brides prawns, sea buckthorn emulsification, sea radish and (nicer than it sounds) scurvy grass Mallard accompanied by damson Paste, hazelnuts, and preserved hogweed seeds Customers agree Annwn is "one of the best in the world" It's not just the experts who love Annwn, but customers as well, with it boasting a perfect 5 rating on Tripadvisor from 46 reviews. It has been described by visitors as a "culinary gem", "one of the best in the world" and a "beacon worth travelling a long way" for. Have you visited Annwn before? (Image: Tripadvisor) One person, commenting about their experience at Annwn, said: "Top 3 restaurant in the world for a special experience. "I am fortunate to have eaten at highly rated restaurants all over the world, including those with multiple Michelin stars. "Annwn stands out for the authentic and deeply immersive experience into Welsh food, history, and community. It was worth every penny and much more." RECOMMENDED READING: Another customer, posting on Tripadvisor, added: "True to name, Annwn is out of this world, in the best of ways. "A fabulous experience of top Michelin quality food in a wonderfully intimate and personal setting. Cannot recommend highly enough. "Surely Annwn will be awarded its star very soon. "Matt is the most committed and passionate chef I have spoken with and, together with Naomi, they host a brilliant experience."

The Scottish 'whisky capital' with distilleries perfect for Father's Day visit

Sunday, June 15 marks Father's Day. The annual holiday is dedicated to dads and father figures throughout society. Many people choose to take the opportunity to gift their dad a present. The Daily Record previously rounded up some of the best whiskies for a Father's Day gift. However, if you really want this Father's Day to be special, you can go one step further. The Daily Record's latest Town of the Week is the Moray burgh of Dufftown, which is known as the 'malt whisky capital'. Dufftown earned the nickname thanks to the presence of multiple iconic distilleries in the surrounding area. The town has a long history with Scotland's national drink, and to this day is among the top whisky-producing destinations in the country. Out of the many distilleries around Dufftown, Balvenie is a definite must-visit for whisky lovers. Dating back to the late 19th century, the historic distillery's whisky has earned countless fans all over the world. Visitors can step inside Balvenie's doors and discover how its whisky is made through detailed 2.5-hour tours. These allow enthusiasts to meet and speak with the distillery's whisky-makers and take part in an intimate group tasting. Another distillery that definitely is not to be missed while in Dufftown is Glenfiddich. The legendary distillery's name comes from the Scottish Gaelic 'Gleann Fhiodhaich', which means 'valley of the deer'—referenced in its iconic stag logo. Like Balvenie, Glenfiddich offers tours that let visitors see up close how the distillery's globally renowned whisky is produced—and take part in a tasting of several single malts. There are a number of different tours available, starting at 90 minutes and going up to four hours. It isn't just whisky that Dufftown has to offer. It is also a great place for history buffs, with the ruined Balvenie Castle having origins all the way back in the 13th century. Meanwhile, when it comes to food, the Whisky Capital Inn is a great choice. Its restaurant serves a wide range of pub classics in a laid-back environment, while its whisky bar is home to a collection of more than 300 whiskies. Read on for some images showing why Dufftown is a great pick for a Father's Day day out. For more travel inspiration, find some of our previous Towns and Villages of the Week below:
