In the early noughties, cheerleading-themed storylines were all the rage. Cue Bring It On - a teen comedy filled with high kicks, backflips, squad rivalries, stolen routines and cheer justice. The film was praised for its tackling of issues such as systemic inequality, cultural appropriation, and feminism - subjects not commonly addressed in teen films of the Y2K era.
But what became of its stars once the championships and on-set high school days ended? From Oscar nominations and Spider-Man stardom to real-life tragedy and life-changing allegations, here's a look at the Bring It On cast, 25 years on, reports the Mirror US.
Here's what happened to the cast of Bring It On since the film's release:
Kirsten Dunst as Torrance Shipman
By the time she led the Rancho Carne Toros to nationals, Kirsten Dunst was already a darling of Hollywood. A former child star with a Golden Globe nomination to her name, she brought charm and emotional depth to captain Torrance, who tries to guide her team towards a scandal-free victory after discovering their routines were stolen.
Kirsten then leapt from teen comedy royalty to blockbuster fame with her role as Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man trilogy opposite Tobey Maguire. Between 2004 and 2006, she starred in Wimbledon, Elizabethtown and Marie Antoinette, before delivering a Cannes-winning performance in Melancholia (2011).
Her career then took another turn towards television, with lauded roles in Fargo and On Becoming a God in Central Florida. In 2021, she shared the screen once again with her husband Jesse Plemons in The Power of the Dog, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
She returned to the limelight in 2024 with a starring role in Alex Garland's dystopian thriller Civil War, where her powerful performance was praised by critics. Away from the camera, Kirsten's personal life has had its share of highs and lows.
She was romantically involved with Jake Gyllenhaal in the early 2000s, and was briefly engaged to Garrett Hedlund before finding happiness with Plemons, with whom she has two sons. The couple tied the knot in Jamaica in 2022.
Eliza Dushku as Missy Pantone
Before portraying the cool and unconventional outsider Missy Pantone - the gymnast transfer who reluctantly joins the Toros - Dushku was already recognised for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and films alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert De Niro.
After her cheerleading days, she led the cast of Tru Calling and teamed up again with Buffy creator Joss Whedon for Dollhouse. She later lent her voice to She-Hulk in Marvel's Agents of S. M.A.S. H. and directed the 2015 documentary Dear Albania, delving into her cultural roots with her brother Nate.
However, her stint on the CBS drama Bull came to an abrupt end when she accused co-star Michael Weatherly of sexual harassment - a case that resulted in a significant settlement and sparked a public reckoning in the television industry. Since then, Eliza has stepped back from acting, focusing on academia and mental health.
Furthermore, after returning to Boston and studying sociology and holistic psychology, she graduated in 2020. By 2024, she had become a certified therapist, specialising in psychedelic-assisted therapy for trauma.
She continues to be politically active, having campaigned for Bernie Sanders in 2016.
Gabrielle Union as Isis
As the captain of East Compton Clovers, Isis, Gabrielle Union captured hearts even as the Toros' adversary. Since her breakout role, Gabrielle has enjoyed a successful film and TV career, with roles in Bad Boys II, Cradle 2 the Grave, Think Like a Man, the BET hit Being Mary Jane, and crime drama L.A.'s Finest.
She also became a successful author, writing two memoirs and two children's books, while her activism around women's health, LGBTQIA+ rights, and racial justice earned her and husband Dwyane Wade the NAACP Image Award President's Award. She was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in 2020.
Gabrielle married Dwyane in 2014 and became stepmother to his three children. In 2018, they welcomed daughter Kaavia James via surrogate.
Jesse Bradford as Cliff Pantone
Missy's brother Cliff, an alternative-music enthusiast, emerged as the unexpected romantic lead of Bring It On - a grunge darling with a mixtape, a sense of humour, and a subtle cheerleading obsession. Jesse Bradford followed the film with consecutive leading roles in Clockstoppers and Swimfan (both 2002), then secured a significant role in Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers in 2006.
Over the following decade, he featured in series such as Guys With Kids, Shooter, and Sequestered, and made a comeback to the cinema in films like The Year of Spectacular Men (2017) and Merry Kiss Cam (2022). Jesse, a film graduate from Columbia University, is now happily married to Andrea Leal.
Their daughter Maggie was born in 2021, just a day after his birthday.
Natina Reed as Jenelope
The fiery Jenelope from East Compton Clovers was portrayed by Natina Reed - a versatile performer who was best known at the time as one-third of the R&B trio Blaque. Their 1999 hit 'Bring It All to Me' reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the group's appearance in Bring It On marked a significant pop culture moment.
Her later years were overshadowed by legal issues, including arrests for DUI and driving without a licence. A 2010 arrest report – which included charges of prostitution and drug possession - was publicly contested by her management, who claimed the mugshots were doctored by someone who had hacked her social media.
Natina was once engaged to rapper Kurupt and is the mother of his son. After Blaque disbanded in the early 2000s, Natina stepped away from the limelight, with plans for a group reunion in 2012.
However, tragedy struck on October 26 that year, just days before her 32nd birthday, when she was tragically hit by a car while crossing the street near Lilburn, Georgia.
Lindsay Sloane as Big
Red
She only featured in a handful of scenes, but Big Red was the red-haired, domineering former captain who had been copying the Clovers' routines for years. Post Bring It On, Lindsay Sloane became a recognised face in comedies, often portraying the anxious best mate or the figure providing comic relief.
She starred as Valerie in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, playing Sabrina's kind but slightly oblivious best friend, and later appeared in The Odd Couple, Weeds, Horrible Bosses and She's Out of My League. Away from the screen, she leads a quiet family life.
In 2004, she married agent Dar Rollins and they have two daughters. Lindsay maintains a low profile, occasionally showing up in independent comedies or sitcom guest appearances.
Nicole Bilderback as Whitney
As one half of the mean girl cheerleading duo alongside Courtney, Whitney was portrayed by Nicole Bilderback, who was already a regular in teen films with roles in Clueless, Can't Hardly Wait and Dawson's Creek. Nicole went on to feature in Dark Angel, Boston Legal, and Heroes, and has had a steady career in TV for over two decades.
Moreover, she starred in the 2022 thriller The Ninth Order, playing a detective investigating a series of mysterious deaths. Offscreen, she's discussed the challenges of being an Asian-American actress in Hollywood, advocating for better representation and more complex roles.
Clare Kramer as Courtney
Paired with Nicole Bilderback as Courtney, the other half of the high-maintenance cheer duo, Clare Kramer is perhaps best known for her role as Glory in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where she portrayed a hell-god with a fondness for high fashion and violence. Since then, she's continued to work in film and television.
In addition to her acting career, Clare has also found success as a podcast host and convention organiser. She co-founded GeekNation, a hub for pop culture content, and has hosted red carpet events and fan Q&As for major franchises.
She's married to producer Brian Keathley, and they have four children together.
Nathan West as Jan
Nathan West took on the role of Jan in Bring It On, playing the spirited male cheerleader who was goofy, likable, and full of energy. After Bring It On, Nathan appeared in a few films including Miracle (2004), but his offscreen life may be more well-known than his onscreen roles.
He tied the knot with actress Chyler Leigh (known for her role as Lexie Grey in Grey's Anatomy) in 2002, after they met while filming Not Another Teen Movie. The couple have three children and formed the band WestLeigh.
They've been making music together, as well as publicly advocating for mental health and sobriety. In recent years, Nathan has mostly stayed behind the scenes, focusing on family and songwriting.
Bianca Kajlich played Carver
Bianca portrayed Carver, a character who became instrumental to the film when her dramatic mid-air injury in the opening act kick-started the plot and paved the way for Missy to join the team. Post Bring It On, Bianca carved out a successful TV career, featuring in Rules of Engagement, Undateable, and Bosch: Legacy.
She also made appearances in Halloween: Resurrection and Vanished. In 2024, she secured a recurring role on The Lincoln Lawyer, marking her return to prime-time drama.
She was previously wedded to football star Landon Donovan and later tied the knot with radio personality Michael Catherwood, with whom she has a daughter.
Huntley Ritter as Les
Huntley played the sensitive, potentially gay cheerleader whose self-assurance and charisma set him apart in the Toros line-up. Huntley briefly continued his acting career in the early 2000s (The Wedding Planner, We Are Marshall) but soon pivoted to business.
He established a branding and digital content company centred around sports, faith and outdoor lifestyles. Moreover, in 2021, he launched a wellness brand inspired by his passion for hunting and environmental conservation.
By 2024, he was operating as a motivational speaker and brand strategist. He's been happily married since 2007 and is a father to three children.

Hollyoaks future teased for Lucas and Dillon - but there's 'conflict' ahead
Hollyoaks fans want Lucas Hay and Dillon Ray, known as HayRay, to get together permanently and have a future on the Channel 4 soap, and now the stars playing them have dropped hints Fans hoping for a HayRay reunion on Hollyoaks could be in luck according to the stars playing the pair. Lucas Hay and Dillon Ray have been on and off for a while now, and every time it seems like they're back together something gets in the way. At a time where both characters are facing traumatic events in their lives, fans are hoping the pair will lean on each other and get through it all. But will HayRay, as they are known to adoring fans, finally get their romance back on track and be together? Cast members Nathaniel Dass and Oscar Curtis spoke exclusively to The Mirror about the big scenes ahead that could see the pair finally happy. While Lucas actor Oscar joked it may be short-lived, he did say he was sure there was happier times ahead for the on/off couple. With fans sure they are meant to be together, Dillon star Nathaniel teased there would be a "storm brewing" and "conflict" ahead, but that it could be the moment the pair get things on track. Of course we requested to speak to the pair together, with them agreeing it was a must. Speaking at the British Soap Awards 2025, they initially remained coy over whether HayRay were back. Nathaniel said: "We can't tell you that," with Oscar jibing: "You'd ruin the fun." Nathaniel then explained: "The beauty of Lucas and Dillon is you don't know. It's amazing when we are together and it's crushing when we're not, and I think thats' fun. "We can't say what happens and what doesn't but we know it's exciting." Oscar went on: "There's always something brewing, there's always a storm. The fans want the calm but the storm is always fun, and it makes it work." On the couple being so on and off, Nathaniel told us: "It's the ups and the downs as well. When one character is up the other one is down, and when you think one character's ready for a relationship, the other one's not. That's where the chaos works and where it shows, and it's hard as they are completely different characters and so they're never on the same page." On whether there is a future for HayRay, Oscar teased: "I'm sure there will be." Nathaniel then shared: "Let's hope so. It will be lovely to see, even if it's only for a little bit," as Oscar joked: "Yeah, at least two weeks." Joking aside, Oscar and Nathaniel are keen to see their characters reconcile for good and make their relationship work. Nathaniel said: "We had it for a little bit and hopefully can get back to that." Oscar has been keeping an eye on the fan reaction too, before feeding back to his co-star about what fans are saying. He told us: "I'm on social media every day. If I see something I don't like I'm like, 'never mind'." Nathaniel said it was "nice to hear the positive stuff" fans share about the couple. With that Oscar declared: "Hashtag HayRay," with his pal adding: "HayRay forever." Oscar then revealed "conflict" would be ahead on the show with Dillon agreeing, but both stars confirmed fans will see the characters together a lot more, no doubt sparking hopes the pair will finally make it work. Nathaniel told us: "There's conflict but there's a lot more. As characters we haven't spent a lot of time on screen together but you are definitely gonna see a lot more of us together after this. "There's the calming down and processing of what's happened, and then you'll see a lot more of them." Oscar concluded: "Let's put it this way, HayRay might be back for now."

My dad was wrongly jailed so now I fight for justice – at least 30 long-term inmates are innocent, says actor Tom Conti
Conti privately spends hours pouring over legal documents to try to identify potential real-life miscarriages of justice MISSION FOR JUSTICE My dad was wrongly jailed so now I fight for justice – at least 30 long-term inmates are innocent, says actor Tom Conti Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HE is one of our giants of stage and screen, starring in everything from Shirley Valentine to Oppenheimer. Stalwart actor Tom Conti has spent decades at the top of his game, most recently playing Einstein in Christopher Nolan's epic about the birth of the atomic bomb. Conti privately spends hours poring over legal documents and court transcripts to try to identify potential real-life miscarriages of justice, with the hope of freeing those wrongly imprisoned. The actor — once described as the thinking woman's crumpet after starring in 1989 romantic comedy Shirley Valentine — believes there may be as many as 30 long-term inmates in the UK who have committed no crime. Conti says it does not take a rocket scientist to realise there is something seriously wrong with Britain's dangerously overcrowded jails. Read More on crime WOKE & BROKE Cops demand more taxpayer cash & spend millions on 'woke' ideas as crime soars And the actor blasted the notoriously slow Criminal Cases Review Commission for dragging its feet on cases such as 'Beast Of Birkenhead' Peter Sullivan, who spent 38 years protesting his innocence before his conviction was overturned earlier this month. Conti told The Sun: 'It's an absolutely shocking story. 'I don't know how this guy is going to manage now. He's been completely institutionalised. 'He's been told what to do every minute of the day for 38 years.' 'Damaged my father' Conti became interested in forensics while researching a book he wanted to write in 2014, and got in touch with Tracy Alexander, an expert in cold cases. As a thank you for the advice, he left her tickets for his latest play at the time, Twelve Angry Men, in London's West End. Man jailed 38yrs ago for beating florist to death CLEARED after DNA bombshell They later went for dinner, where Tracy told Conti about UK charity Inside Justice, which campaigns to resolve major miscarriages of justice. It was a conversation that struck a personal chord. Conti's father Alfonso was one of 4,000 Italians interned by Britain during World War Two. They were sent to camps on the Isle of Man in 1940 after Italy's Benito Mussolini declared war on Britain and France. Almost overnight, ordinary Italians were considered the enemy. Conti said: 'Winston Churchill famously said, 'Collar the lot'. 'Collar the lot' 'It must have damaged my father a bit, but he got over it and never resented the British because it was a time of war. 'So, I kind of had knowledge, second-hand, of what it was like to be locked up having committed no sin.' The actor soon found himself on Inside Justice's advisory board, giving guidance on cases to a panel of blood spatter, fingerprint, fibre and DNA experts. It might be easy to dismiss Conti as another do-gooder with too much time on his hands, but he is clearly no pushover. While he worries about the state of the UK's overcrowded jails and questions whether rehabilitation programmes might be the answer, he also says 'we need to take violent people off the streets'. A bear of a man, a charmer with twinkling eyes and an aura of mischief, the actor caused a stir in 2015 when he publicly switched political allegiance from Labour to the Tories. 14 Peter Sullivan, branded 'Beast of Birkenhead', was wrongly convicted of killing 21-year-old Diane Sindall in 1986 14 After serving 38 years, Sullivan was acquitted of killing Diane Credit: Mercury Press Agency 14 Inside Justice is also battling for Roger Kearney, whose case was featured on BBC investigation Conviction: Murder At The Station Credit: Solent News 14 Kearney remains in prison for Paula Poolton's murder Credit: Hampshire Police The Tony Award winner said that socialism was becoming 'a religion of hatred' and even considered running for London Mayor after Boris Johnson. Conti acknowledges there are a huge number of prisoners who apply to Inside Justice 'because they are bored and it gives them something to do', but insists there is a vigorous vetting process. He said: 'It's fairly easy to weed out the ones who are doing that, but there are genuine cases — maybe between 20 and 30 individuals — who are serving long sentences.' The charity is currently working on several high-profile cases, including that of killer nurse Colin Campbell, formerly known as Colin Norris, who was jailed for life for killing elderly patients in two Leeds hospitals in 2008. Originally from Glasgow, Campbell was convicted of murdering Doris Ludlam, 80, Bridget Bourke, 88, Irene Crookes, 79, and 86-year-old Ethel Hall. His case is currently being heard at the Court of Appeal, where his barrister argued that the evidence against Campbell, 49, was circumstantial, and medical advances could now provide other reasons for the women's deaths. 14 Colin Campbell was jailed for life for killing elderly patients in two Leeds hospitals in 2008 Credit: PA:Press Association 14 Ethel Hall, 86, was one of Campbell's victims Credit: Handout 14 Bridget Bourke, 88, was another of his victims Credit: Ross Parry 14 Doris Ludlam, 80, was also murdered by Campbell Credit: Collect 14 Irene Crookes, 79, was also a victim of killer nurse Campbell 14 Forensics expert Tracy Alexander Credit: Inside Justice is also battling for Roger Kearney, whose case was featured on 2016 BBC investigation Conviction: Murder At The Station, which later streamed on Netflix in 2023. Viewers were left 'flabbergasted' after Hampshire police destroyed evidence that Kearney, 67, hoped would prove his innocence after lover Paula Poolton, 40, was found stabbed to death in the boot of her car. The case against him was mainly circumstantial. Paula's family remain convinced the cops got the right man, while police claim an officer destroyed the items without first consulting his senior. Conti said: 'Our fibre expert went to get the exhibits but, when she arrived, the police said they had been destroyed. I find that jaw-dropping. 'This was this man's last hope of getting a conviction overturned and this is what happened.' The actor is hugely frustrated at the pace of the Criminal Cases Review Commission which, he says, does not act quickly enough to refer cases to the Court of Appeal — or force the police to hand over exhibits. Conti revealed that Inside Justice has even offered to loan its experts to the CCRC to speed things up, but were rebuffed. He said: 'The CCRC is just not fit for purpose. Most of them work from home when they really should be in the office to discuss cases face to face. 'A real travesty' 'They resolutely refuse to pass cases to the Court of Appeal. They decide whether or not there's a chance of success. 'They don't have any scientists examining evidence and our experts have offered their services for nothing. 'Our scientists have said, 'If you want to send us exhibits, our people will examine them free of charge'. Instead they send them to a lab for 'presumptive' substance tests, whereas we would test for everything.' The CCRC refers around 3.5 per cent of its cases to the Court of Appeal — and around seven in ten of those cases succeed. In 2008, Peter Sullivan, now 68, asked the CCRC to look for DNA evidence that could exonerate him from the murder of 21-year-old barmaid Diane Sindall in 1986 — evidence that eventually pointed to an another suspect. The technique that ended Peter's ordeal this year was available back then — but the CCRC says it was told by forensic scientists that they were unlikely to uncover any useful DNA. There have been absolutely massive advances in science that can reveal new things... the Criminal Cases Review Commission is not fit for purpose Conti says: 'It's a real travesty. There have been huge advances in science over the past ten or 15 years, absolutely massive, that can reveal new things about cases. 'We need the CCRC to move quicker.' Conti might be earnest about the issues close to his heart, but he is also entertaining and fun, with a sharp sense of humour. He's very proud of his daughter Nina, a comic ventriloquist, who he calls a genius for going on stage without a script, and his actor grandson Arthur, who starred in last year's hit Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Conti, who lives in Hampstead, also retains a sense of childlike wonder, talking about how excited he was when he got the chance to sit in Einstein's actual chair while filming Oppenheimer at Princeton University. He avoided early starts on set by insisting the make-up artist left his wild Einstein hair on for the duration of filming, shocking locals. He said: 'The first morning, I was in the make-up chair at about 5am because the hair had to be done and the moustache curled properly. 'Later that day, I went back into make-up and they said, 'Right okay, we'll get you cleaned up'. 'I said, 'Wait, we're doing four days of shooting, so why don't we just leave it?'.' Conti laughs: 'There were definitely double-takes when I went out for supper those nights.' The star might not be the real Einstein, but he is hoping that, with a handful of clever experts, he can make a genuine difference.
