The 3,021 Spurs fans who turned up instantly sang songs proclaiming their 'Champions of Europe' status following May's Europa League triumph.
Chairman Daniel Levy, who controversially sacked the man who had delivered that trophy, Ange Postecoglou, and replaced him with Frank, watched on from the directors' box, deep in conversation with Spurs' technical director Johan Lange throughout.
In truth, it was a dull first half that very much reflected its pre-season status, but there were a few hints of what Frank may bring to Tottenham from a tactical perspective.
First of all, he went with two holding midfielders - something predecessor Postecoglou rarely did until the final stage of the Europa League.

The switches quickly had an impact with Frank's men going 2-0 up with nine minutes of the restart.
Spurs' opener came from a set-piece, which must have pleased their new boss immensely given it is an area he is looking to improve.
Academy product Lankshear got the finishing touch, but it was set up by two new-boys.
Kudus fired in an outswinging corner which Vuskovic flicked on, allowing Lankshear to nod home.

Five minutes later, Kudus and Vuskovic linked up again with the man signed from West Ham for £55m laying the ball off for Vuskovic to steer beautifully into the corner.
It was a brilliant finish from a centre-back, or any player, but then again Vuskovic has goals in his locker, having netted seven on loan in Belgium with Westerlo last season.
The Croatia international then showed his defensive awareness with an important clearance to deny Andre Garcia's header.
There has been a lot of scrutiny around the future of Son this summer and the South Korean struggled with his touch when coming on.
There was a bit of crowd trouble between the two sets of fans up in the corner of the Sir John Madejski Stand in the final ten minutes of the game, with a few bottles thrown.
But it did not take the shine off what was a good start for Frank - and for Kudus and Vuskovic in particular.

Big spending Arsenal sign Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia

Arsenal have made Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera their fifth signing of the summer, taking the club's spending to close to £140million. Spaniard Mosquera joins for an initial fee of £13m – with performance-related add-ons – and is understood to have agreed a five-year deal with an option of a further year. The 21-year-old is set to provide cover for William Saliba and Gabriel at the heart of the Gunners' defence, but can also operate anywhere along the backline. Mosquera, who played 41 times for Valencia last season, has joined Arsenal for their tour of Singapore and Hong Kong. "It means a lot to me," Mosquera told the club website. "There's been a lot of hard work behind all of this. "It's an opportunity that came up and I couldn't let it pass me by. I'm joining a historic, massive club. When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place." New sporting director Andrea Berta has wasted no time in improving Arsenal's squad as manager Mikel Arteta eyes the club's first Premier League title in more than two decades. "Cristhian has already performed consistently well with significant experience in La Liga. He is an intelligent player with good pace, who can play centrally and on both sides," Arteta said. "He is a young player with exciting talent and enormous potential, who will fit well into our squad as we continue to prepare for next season. Cristhian adds good quality to our squad, and we look forward to working with him and making him feel at home with us." Mosquera follows Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi (£60m), goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5m), Christian Norgaard (£10m) and Noni Madueke (£48.5m) in moving to the Emirates. Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also put pen to paper on new contracts in the off-season, with a long-term extension for teenager Ethan Nwaneri believed to be all-but completed. Arsenal remain hopeful of signing striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, although it is not believed a deal, which could be worth as much as £65m, is imminent.

Qarabag lessons can aid Shelbourne's European league phase ambitions, says star

Shelbourne captain Mark Coyle reckons the harsh lessons learned on Wednesday night against Qarabag can help the club's league phase qualification ambitions. The Reds are all but out of Champions League contention after the concession of two late goals in the first-leg at Tolka Park saw them slump to a 3-0 defeat. For much of the second-half, the League of Ireland champions were on the front-foot and were chasing a goal to cancel out Leandro Andrade's 12th minute opener. However, they were hit by two sucker punches inside the final nine minutes, as the Azeri side capitalised on a couple of lapses. With two more opportunities to come to make league phase football, in the Europa League and Conference League, Coyle believes the Reds will be stronger for their exposure to the European regulars. 'There's a lot of learnings, and we have to improve, we know where we have to improve, but there's also a lot of positives from tonight and we have to look at them as well,' he said. 'I definitely think (confidence) is a part of it, yeah. It's not showing too much respect, really going at it from the first minute, especially here at home when you have that crowd behind you, the roar there at the start. 'I suppose they are a well-versed team in Europe, and you can see that in some of the things they did in slowing the game down. 'There are also learnings that you can take from it, especially going away from home, because you know it's like two different games usually. 'So there are a lot of learnings, but we should be taking confidence from it when you look at some of the performances and the patterns of play, that we can go toe-to-toe with these teams. But we have to brush up on certain areas.' Click this link or scan the QR code to receive the latest League of Ireland news and top stories from the Irish Mirror. Asked if Wednesday's game would help with the rest of Shelbourne's European run, Coyle replied: 'Yeah, exactly. And it's making sure whatever we learn from tonight, we do it next week. We have to go (to Baku for the second-leg) and try to win a game. 'If it's not 3-0… look, there's no denying, it's going to be a tough, tough ask. But we have to go out there and do what we can and make sure we put in a good performance and represent the club in the right way.' Shels could have scored before Qarabag's opener. Veteran defender Sean Gannon hit the upright in the sixth minute. But the Azeri champions were an attacking threat throughout the first-half. So when Coyle and his teammates pinned them back inside their own half for much of the second-half, the Tolka Park faithful felt an equaliser was on the cards. To end up on the wrong end of a three-goal defeat was a real gut-punch. 'Definitely disappointment,' Coyle said, when asked for his feelings at the full-time whistle. 'I think in the second half we had a real go, you could see that in the chances we created. 'We had chances to equalise and I felt if anybody was on the ropes it was probably them at that stage. But that's the difference isn't it? That's European football. They got a few chances and they absolutely punished us. 'We're obviously disappointed with the overall result, but there's a lot of positives also to take out of it, especially for the next few games coming up."
