Masters 2025: Why does Aaron Rai wear two gloves?

Yahoo10-04-2025

When you're playing in your first Masters, you need to stay in your comfort zone to start. For Aaron Rai of England, the comfort zone includes a fashion statement rare for the world of golf these days: two gloves. Sure, they make him look like a jewel thief, but they work: Rai spent much of his round atop the Masters leaderboard on Thursday.
Rai, who played his way into the Masters with a victory in the Wyndham Championship last August, has sported two gloves his entire career. The tradition dates back to when he was just a wee lad of eight.

'I just happened to be given these two gloves — the guy who actually makes them sent a pair over — and I got into the habit of wearing them," he said a few years back. "Then, a few weeks down the line, my dad forgot to put the two gloves in the bag so I had to play with one. It was terrible. I couldn't play, I couldn't feel the grip, so I've always stuck with the two gloves ever since.'

Rai isn't the only member of his inner circle with game; his companion/caddie showed some impressive skills Wednesday at the Par 3 contest:
Rai and his two gloves ought to be in the mix for the weekend, based on Thursday's round.

Pat McAfee spars with soccer announcer after missing semifinal of $1 million tournament

Pat McAfee doesn't even have to be somewhere to end up in the middle of a controversy. While broadcasting a seven-on-seven soccer tournament, TST announcers Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez called out McAfee for not being present as the team he owns, the CONCAFA Soccer Club, played a semifinal game where the winner of the final would win $1 million. 'Hold on, we're hyping up Pat McAfee and he's not even here?' Salazar said after the duo mistakenly thought McAfee was in attendance. 'You've got to be here, your team is playing for a million bucks tomorrow. Production, what are you telling me he's got going on? WWE. You know anything about that Herc?' Advertisement 3 Pat McAfee called out broadcasters at TST for making jokes. WWE via Getty Images McAfee, who did take his eponymous show on the road to Cary, N.C. during the week for the beginning of the tournament, was broadcasting at one of WWE's premier events of the year, Money in the Bank, where he worked as an announcer alongside Michael Cole and Wade Barrett. The event featured the shocking return of R-Truth, who attacked John Cena in the main event and cost Cena and Logan Paul their tag team match against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. Advertisement It appears that McAfee got word about what they were saying about him on the broadcast. 'TST Commentary talking s–t on me,' McAfee said on X. 'Hope the CONCAFA squad s–t pumps this whole tournament.' 3 Pat McAfee was at Money in the Bank instead of with his soccer team. WWE via Getty Images McAfee then called out the commentary team, saying he 'had no idea what his name was' but that the 'guys a bum on the microphone.' Advertisement McAfee's squad was smashed in the match 5-1 as the Pumas de Alabama were able to clinch a finals berth. 'Heartbroken… Still incredibly prahd of the @ConcafaPod boys. It was a great run. The Pumas team was unbelievable.. good luck to them in the finals tomorrow.' Salazar, who works for ESPN part-time, didn't take the back and forth with McAfee lightly. Advertisement 'Sorry for your loss,' Salazar posted on X in McAfee's direction. 'Big man has some thin skin!' McAfee, a former NFL punter, founded the team and has played occasionally for them. 3 Sebastian Salazar is feuding with Pat McAfee. SebastianSalazar/Instagram 'Heartbroken… Still incredibly prahd of the @ConcafaPod boys,' the ESPN host wrote on X of his squad that is coached by former USMNT goalie Tony Meola. 'It was a great run. The Pumas team was unbelievable.. good luck to them in the finals (Monday).' The league features teams of men and women, where there is a winner-takes-all $1 million prize for both divisions. There is no second-place prize.

Chris Martin Publicly Supported Dakota Johnson After Reports That They've Split, And People Don't Know What To Think

In case you missed it, it was reported last week that Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson have ended their relationship after nearly eight years of on-and-off dating. Debra L Rothenberg / WireImage, Arturo Holmes / Getty Images If that sounds familiar, that's probably because this isn't the first time we've had split reports about this notoriously private couple. However, a source alleged to People on June 4 that this separation 'feels final.' But, whether they're together or not, Chris is still going out of his way to support her. Fan footage from the Coldplay show in Las Vegas on Friday, June 6 — two days after the breakup reports surfaced — shows Chris wishing the crowd goodnight as he exits the stage. 'Thank you, everybody! Be kind to each other!' he says into the microphone before adding: 'Don't forget to go see Materialists!' Related: Here Are 16 Actors Who Saved Their Skin By Turning Down Roles In Movies That People Notoriously Hated If you're in need of some context, Materialists is the new and highly anticipated Celine Song movie starring Dakota alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, which is due to hit theaters on June 13. It's not entirely clear whether Chris's mention of the new movie is a means of quashing the breakup reports or if he's merely being a supportive ex. And in the comments section of the TikTok video, fans have expressed their confusion. 'If they really were broken up would he go out of his way to mention materialists?' questioned one user, followed by someone else who speculated that it might have been his way of 'saying 'we're still together.'' 'Maybe he just really likes Pedro Pascal like the rest of us,' another user joked, while someone else pointed out that 'you can love and support someone and not be with them.' Whatever's going on, it seems like these two are probably on good terms. And if there's one thing about Chris, he certainly knows how to maintain a good relationship with an ex — need I mention Gwyneth Paltrow and the conscious uncoupling? We've reached out to their representatives for comment, but I'd love to hear your take on this whole thing.
