Atlanta traffic stop for phone leads to discovery of bricks of cocaine, 100 lbs. of meth, police say

Police said a traffic stop turned into a major drug bust along a busy road earlier this month, and it was captured on camera.

Around 5:15 p.m. Feb. 7, Atlanta officers pulled over a white transport van on Peachtree Road. The officer said he stopped the driver, Tory Hardesty, for using his phone while driving.
While speaking with Hardesty, authorities said they smelled marijuana and asked if there was any inside the van.
Bodycam video shows Hardesty giving one of the officers a small ziplocked bag of marijuana and saying that was all he had.

Authorities said they had probable cause to search the vehicle, but Hardesty tried to resist when officers detained him.
After a brief tussle caught on bodycam and dashcam video, Hardesty was tased and later arrested.

APD said during the search of the van officers found the following:
Five 'bricks' of suspected cocaine (12.5 pounds)
35 vacuum-sealed bundles of marijuana (35 pounds)
22 bags of methamphetamine (114 pounds)
APD said officers also seized $73,500 in cash.
Hardesty was checked out by first responders before he was booked into the Fulton County Jail. He faces multiple charges including trafficking meth, cocaine and marijuana, obstruction and operating a cellular device while driving.

Authorities in Florida said a 47-year-old Georgia man died Sunday after drowning in the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf County Sheriff's Office said on social media that Timothy Franklin was swimming with a family member when he got caught in a rip current. They found emergency personnel from Gulf County EMS and South Gulf Fire Rescue engaged in life-saving efforts that ultimately proved unsuccessful. The Gulf County Sheriff's Office said 'it is grateful for the numerous members of the community that have wrapped themselves around the Franklin family to provide support during this incredibly difficult time. This is a heartbreaking incident, and the family remains in our thoughts and prayers.' A GoFundMe has been started on the family's behalf, according to media reports. APD: Man dies in northeast Austin crash on Sunday morning

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 34-year-old man died in a crash early Sunday morning in northeast Austin, according to the Austin Police Department. Police identified the man as Isidro Montero Reyes. The crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. in the area of the northbound State Highway 130 to westbound Highway 290 ramp between exits 437B and 437A. Officers responded to the scene for a single-vehicle crash, APD said. Reyes, who was the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. APD said their initial assessment of what happened, including the information regarding fatality, could change, and the investigation is still pending. Anyone with information should call APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit at (512) 974-8111. Those with details can also submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program online at The crash is being investigated as Austin's 41st fatal crash of 2025.
