We're Finally Getting A Holiday Follow-Up After Years Of Asking. While It's Not Exactly What I Wanted, I Am Intrigued
For years, there has been buzz and rumors about a sequel to The Holiday as well as multiple shutdowns of said rumors. However, it would seem that the iconic rom-com is finally getting a continuation…However, it's not The Holiday 2. Instead, it's being reported that this iconic movie is being adapted into a limited series over at Apple TV+. While this isn't exactly what I wanted, I have to say, I am intrigued.
The Holiday Is Being Adapted Into A TV Show At Apple TV+
The Holiday is considered not only one of the best Christmas movies but one of the best rom-coms. The tale of two single women, who are played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, switching homes and falling in love in their new cities is such a cozy one that so many adore. And now, it seems like a home switch will happen again, but with all new people.
It's been reported that The Holiday will be adapted into a limited series at Apple TV+, according to Deadline. Krissie Ducker, who wrote and co-executive-produced the Ella Purnell-led series Sweetpea, will be a writer and EP on this show. It will also be produced by Left Bank Pictures.
Along with them, Rob Delaney has signed on as a writer as well.
A casting search is reportedly already underway, and the project is looking for well-known actresses to play the leads. This makes sense considering Winslet and Diaz, as well as the actors playing their love interests, Jack Black and Jude Law, were all very well known when they were cast in the 2006 movie. If they find their leads, the series will allegedly get the green light.
The downside is, reportedly, Nancy Meyers has no involvement in this new iteration of her story.
Obviously, I Wanted The Holiday 2. However, This New Series Has My Attention
Now, Meyers not being attached throws up a big caution flag in my mind. However, there are other elements of this new series that make me very, very excited.
Specifically, Rob Delaney's involvement really intrigues me. He notably co-created, wrote, and executive-produced the acclaimed Amazon Prime series Catastrophe with Sharon Horgan. That series is about an American man and an Irish woman who hook up and wind up dealing with an accidental pregnancy. It ran for four seasons, which gives me confidence in Delaney's ability to help create a new romantic comedy.
Along with that, while he's not attached to star in this Holiday adaptation, Rob Delaney is an amazing actor and romantic lead. From Catastrophe to Dying for Sex (for which he got a 2025 Emmy nomination), he's shown off his comedic, dramatic and romantic acting skills on many occasions. So, personally, I think he'd also be a fun person to actually star in this show as well.
So, taking into account who is involved, consider me cautiously optimistic and intrigued when it comes to this new iteration of The Holiday. While it's no The Holiday 2, you better believe I'll be using my Apple TV+ subscription to tune in and see this new take on a beloved rom-com classic.

With the wildly high prices of travel accommodations these days, 27-year-old Sara Holt came up with a clever way to avoid paying a hefty hotel bill on a recent foreign trip, according to Jam Press. 'Traveling is expensive but a lot of the time, it is the accommodation that really breaks the bank,' she told Luxury Travel Daily. Holt lives in Copenhagen and wanted to exchange homes with someone in Paris for the summer. 'Since watching 'The Holiday' for the first time, I've always wanted to try it.' 3 Holt was determined to visit Paris while on a budget. Jam Press/@sarabholt 'With home swapping, you really only have to pay for the transportation, which is a big perk when trying to save some money,' she added. She posted a video asking for inquiries — and went with a girl in Paris whom she had been following on social media for some time. 'I was a bit nervous the months leading up to it, that one of us would have to cancel after the other person had already booked flights,' she said. 'There's no refund policy when you just swap with someone outside of the platforms.' Thankfully, everything went according to plan — the 27-year-old flew out in mid-July and stayed for a week in the city of lights. 'It was a bit strange to live in someone else's space but it quickly felt very homey,' she told the outlet. 3 This Gen Zer was living out the plot of the beloved Nancy Meyers' film, 'The Holiday. The Gen Zer loved how she was able to have a kitchen and live a 'local' lifestyle — rather than being confined to a stuffy hotel room. 'It was more like trying 'everyday life' in Paris instead of a holiday,' Holt said. 3 The 27-year-old said she loved living like a local for the week. In other ways, though, the ending mirrors how Jinny escaped with Nan running away into the fog with a relieved look on her face. 'I think she makes the right choice at the end of Episode 8 by doing what she does, which is basically leave. She has this whole new responsibility. The priorities are different,' Frøseth told Deadline. 'Up until this point, there's been so many bombs thrown at her, and she's had to prioritize so many other things than herself. Now she's making a choice to choose herself.' Despite Guy's (Matthew Broome) profession of love for her in right as the clock struck midnight at the ball, Nan plans to stick with Theo and retain her Duchess of Tintagel title. This plan — which includes Nan revealing she is pregnant with Theo's baby as the midnight announcement at the ball — quickly goes awry when Theo decides to beat her to the speech and renounce his title. This complicates things for Nan. 'There's love for Guy, and there's love for Theo, and both of those relationships have been super complicated, given the circumstances, but I just think it's not the right time,' the actress added. 'Me, Kristine, I don't think she should be in a relationship.' On top of learning that Guy has married Paloma (Grace Ambrose), Nan discovered that the owner of the earring she found at Tintagel is Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag) in Episode 7, and she put the pieces together that Theo and Lizzy have slept together. To signal in the words of the finale title that 'She Knows,' Nan mails the single earring to Lizzy with her invitation to the ball. Frøseth's co-star Christina Hendricks pointed out that Nan had done some 'heavy forgivin'' in this same interview, which also included Leighton Meester. 'I'm forgiving left and right,' Frøseth agreed. 'I'm like 'You do this.' 'I'm cool with that.' She's very understanding, Nan.' Nan revealed to Lizzy that she didn't tell the newspapers about Lizzy and Theo's affair, and the pair reconciled after a fight in the beginning of the finale. Nan also told Lizzy that she is pregnant with Theo's baby, the would-be heir of Tintagel, before she ran away, begging her friend not to tell Theo, who abdicated so that he could be with the eldest Elmsworth sister. Lizzy was the second person close to Nan to find out after Patricia St. George (Hendricks), who helped Nan think up the announcement plan. Though Nan gained a mother in Nell in Episode 7, her bond with Patti will never fade, as evidenced by her responding to Nell's letter summoning her to Tintagel. 'Regarding why I don't come to [Nell], I think it's just because we're still getting to know each other. There's not that much time that passes in between me, Nan, finding out who [Nell is] in relation to me, and then further where [her] character goes, and the complications [of Nell's pregnancy],' Frøseth said. 'There's new tension to come. It's so fresh. The wounds are still open and we've been through a lot, and we continue to go through a lot, but we've healed a little bit more.'
