Spain Chided by EU for Hindering BBVA's €13 Billion Sabadell Bid
Save
European Union watchdogs have fired off a legal warning to the Spanish government for hindering BBVA SA's €13 billion ($15.1 billion) bid for rival Banco Sabadell SA.
The European Commission alleges that a series of onerous conditions imposed on the deal violate EU single market rules that allow freedom of movement of capital in the bloc unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Oil Holds Decline With Trade Talks, Russia Energy Curbs in Focus
Oil was little changed after its first weekly drop this month, with the focus on trade deal progress and the European Union's efforts to curb Russian energy exports. Brent crude held near $69 a barrel after falling 1.5% last week, while West Texas Intermediate was above $67. EU envoys are set to meet as early as this week to formulate a plan for measures to respond to a possible no-deal scenario with US President Donald Trump, whose tariff negotiating position is seen to have stiffened ahead of an Aug. 1 deadline.

Valencia table offer for Barcelona star
Barcelona this week received a transfer offer on the part of La Liga rivals Valencia for a member of the club's attacking ranks. The player in question? Pau Víctor. Frontman Víctor has of course seen his future in Catalunya's capital thrown ever further over the course of the last 24 hours. This comes after Barcelona closed an agreement with Manchester United over the signing of Marcus Rashford. Víctor, already considered as on the exit ramp at the Camp Nou, has therefore been pushed ever closer to a departure. Those of a Blaugrana persuasion will therefore no doubt be interested to learn that their side actually rejected an approach for the 23-year-old just this week. As per a report from , during a meeting a couple of days ago: 'Valencia put on the table a loan proposal accepting different penalty clauses in case the striker did not accumulate minutes in the First Division.' Barcelona chief Deco, however, made clear that the club are only open to a permanent sale at present. Conor Laird – GSFN

Athletic Club table offer for Al-Nassr star
La Liga outfit Athletic Club this week moved forward with an opening bid for a former member of the club's defensive ranks. The player in question? Aymeric Laporte. Stopper Laporta is widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out. The Spanish international is no longer part of the plans at Saudi outfit Al-Nassr, fresh off sealing a deal for Feyenoord standout Dávid Hancko. With Laporte still held in high regard across Europe, a whole host of clubs have in turn been credited with an interest in his services. And as alluded to above, this week, one such suitor went as far as to send a proposal for his signature the way of Al-Nassr. As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano: 'Athletic Club made first verbal proposal to Al Nassr today for Aymeric Laporte. Laporte, out of Al Nassr project at this stage with Athletic Club pushing to make it happen.' Conor Laird – GSFN
