Minor snow accumulation in some Massachusetts areas overnight before changing to rain
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Temperatures were around 50 degrees again on Wednesday, but we could see some wintry weather come back tonight associated with a warm front.
There was a good amount of sun on Wednesday but later tonight expect a warm front to move into western Massachusetts that could bring some snow to start before changing to rain Thursday morning.
Massachusetts weather predictions heading into March
A warm front can produce snow when a warm air mass moves over a cold air mass, the rising warm air cools and condenses, forming clouds and precipitation that falls as snow if the temperatures at the surface are below freezing.
For February, there has been 11.8 inches of snow at Westover Airbase in Chicopee, the average for the month is 12.9 inches. So far for the winter season, there have been 22.7 inches.
The front-end snow won't last long in the Pioneer Valley as it will change to rain by Thursday morning and continue to rain for much of the first half of the day.
