JAIPUR: A former BJP pradhan from Rajasthan's Deeg district, Rachna Jatav, has alleged that she was assaulted by her own family members after they opposed her live-in relationship with a former deputy pradhan from the same party.
The 28-year-old woman, who belongs to the Dalit community, is currently undergoing treatment at RBM Hospital in Bharatpur.
In an interaction with the media, Rachna asserted that she had served as the pradhan from the BJP in the Kama Panchayat Samiti between 2017 and 2020. She said she left her family in 2021 and moved to Alwar, where she began living with former deputy pradhan Budhram Yadav (30).
About a year and a half ago, the couple shifted to Kaman town and began living in a rented accommodation on Kosi Road. Rachna claims she is also continuing her studies.

Rahul Gandhi wants to protect communal elements, alleges Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of 'always wanting to protect communal elements', and 'safeguarding' those involved in recent incidents of throwing meat pieces at temples in the State. The CM made the remarks while replying to a question on State Congress president Gaurav Gogoi's criticism over such episodes earlier this month, claiming that the incidents and follow-up clashes have exposed the intelligence failure of the BJP-led government. Also Read | Assam CM orders shoot-at-sight in restive Dhubri Mr. Sarma maintained that those trying to claim that Hindus can slaughter a cow and then place its parts in a temple 'do not even deserve a reaction'. 'Such people have very different mentality,' he told a press conference here. Mr. Gogoi had alleged that the RSS has penetrated every village of Assam ahead of next year's Assembly elections, and was trying to create animosity among communities. 'Will a Hindu person slaughter a cow and then place a part of it in a temple? What about the remaining parts? Where did those go?' Mr. Sarma said. Mr. Sarma also said locals have admitted that some 'misguided youths' were involved in the incidents. 'So, I don't know why the Congress is trying to protect these elements. This is typical of Rahul Gandhi. They always want to protect communal elements and don't want social harmony among people,' he alleged. On June 8, Mr. Sarma had said that a number of cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at several places during Eid, and parts of the meat were thrown at places of worship. Police have so far arrested 50 people in Dhubri and five in Goalpara in connection with the incidents.

Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar apologises for hurling slippers at Sikh officer

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s West Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar on Tuesday apologised for allegedly hurling a pair of slippers at a Sikh police officer during a protest rally in Kolkata last week. The apology came three days after a case was registered against him on a Sikh body's complaint. 'If this unfortunate and unintended incident has hurt the religious sentiments of any member of the Sikh community, I offer my deepest and most sincere apologies. It was never my intention to cause any offence or disrespect,' Majumdar said on X. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) shared on social media a video purportedly showing Majumdar hurling slippers during the protest after communal clashes in Kolkata's fringes. It attacked the BJP, saying that it was 'an insult to every Sikh, every uniformed officer, every Indian who believes in dignity and decency'. '@BJP4India's hatred knows no bounds, not even when it comes to mocking the sacred symbols of an entire community. First, LoP @SuvenduWB branded a turban-wearing police officer a 'Khalistani'. Now, their State President @DrSukantaBJP hurled a slipper at an on-duty officer's turban,' the TMC wrote on X.
