JD(U) praises Nitish's efforts to uplift EBCs
Patna: The JD(U) on Sunday highlighted CM
's long-standing efforts to uplift the extremely backward classes (EBCs) during his two-decade tenure.
Addressing a press conference at the party office, state president of the JD(U)'s EBC cell and former MP Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravanshi said, "The CM set up the extremely backward welfare department to prioritise the issues of this group in govt agendas.

He added, "The formation of the Extremely Backward Commission, the initiative for reservation in the judiciary and reservation in panchayati raj institutions have provided this group with a share in power, thereby strengthening social justice at the grassroots level."
Chandravanshi said the CM had consistently urged the central govt to recognise the EBC category at the national level so the group could benefit from welfare schemes across the country. He added that over Rs 786 crore in scholarship funds were directly transferred to the accounts of more than 50 lakh OBC and EBC students.
"In 2023-24 alone, more than 3 lakh students benefited under the CM Atipicchda Varg Medhavi Yojana," he said.
Convener of cells Navin Arya Chandravanshi and party spokesperson Arvind Nishad also addressed the mediapersons.

Garden Reach inks pact with Norway firm, India to build its first polar research vehicle
Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), a Government of India undertaking, signed an MoU with Norwegian firm Kongsberg on Tuesday to co-design and build India's first-ever polar research vehicle (PRV) indigenously. The MoU was signed in Oslo in the presence of Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, who termed it 'a commitment to fostering scientific discovery, advancing India's capabilities in polar and ocean research, and contributing to global efforts to address pressing challenges like climate change.' 'Let this MoU signing be a beacon of hope and progress, signalling India's unwavering commitment to scientific advancement and sustainable development. Together, we are building not just a vessel but a legacy — a legacy of innovation, exploration and international cooperation that will inspire generations to come,' Sonowal said. A PRV is a ship which serves as a platform for research in the polar regions (areas surrounding the North and South Poles). It can also help scientists undertake research in the ocean realm. India currently operates three research base stations in the polar regions — Bharati and Maitri in Antarctica, and Himadri in the Arctic region — and had been planning to have its own PRV for a while now. In 2023, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha that the country would have its first PRV within five years at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,600 crore. According to the Ministry, the MoU marks an important milestone for India's shipbuilding sector as it will receive design expertise for developing the PRV 'while taking into account the requirement of National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, which will use it for research activities in the polar and southern ocean realms'. The PRV will be equipped with the latest scientific equipment, enabling researchers to explore the oceans' depths and study marine ecosystems, Sonowal said. It will be a testament to India's critical shipbuilding capabilities, boosting the Government's 'Make In India' initiative, he added. GRSE, which has built warships, survey and research vessels, will build the PRV in its yard in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Sonowal, who is on a five-day official visit to Norway and Denmark, also represented India in a ministerial meeting on the role of shipping in shaping the future. The meeting emphasised the need for the industry to seek out a stable, long-term, regulatory environment supporting inclusive and decarbonised ocean-based trade. Ministers from Brazil, Japan, UN, US, China and Norway also attended the meet. Underlining PM Narendra Modi's vision of SAGAR — Security and Growth for All in the Region — Sonowal said it 'leverages India's vast coastline, strategic location, and maritime heritage to drive economic prosperity, enhance regional security, and ensure sustainable development for all stakeholders'. 'This entails economic cooperation, capacity building, disaster management, information sharing and environmental stewardship. Upgrading from the SAGAR initiative, India's PM Narendra Modi ji announced MAHASAGAR — which is Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions, signalling further consolidation,' he added. "India's response to the attack was appreciated": Sanjay Kumar Jha-led delegation concludes visit; departs for India
Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia], June 3 (ANI): The all-party delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha concluded its 13-day diplomatic mission across five nations--Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore--departing Kuala Lumpur for India on Tuesday. During the visit, the delegation effectively communicated India's unified stance against cross-border terrorism, secured strong international condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, and called for global action to pressure Pakistan to end its support for terrorism. The delegation highlighted India's responsible response to the attack and the international consensus on zero tolerance for terrorism as part of the diplomatic outreach programme following Operation Sindoor. Prior to their departure, delegation leader Sanjay Kumar Jha emphasised the delegation's unity, underscoring its unified voice and India's responsible approach to the ceasefire. 'One big thing is that the all-party delegation and the message we are sharing were in one voice and that India is united... All of us spoke in the same voice with the same feeling, and it was felt that we were representing the entire country... They appreciated India's response to the attack in the sense that we did not target civilian or military infrastructure. When the proposal of ceasefire came from Pakistan, India responsibly accepted it,' the JD (U) MP stated. Congress leader Salman Khurshid noted the success of their outreach, emphasising the global consensus on terrorism and the need for Pakistan's response to determine future steps. 'We have had a high level of success. Most certainly, our point of view was conveyed and heard very seriously... there is widespread consensus on the issue of terrorism... the problems for everyone are that when they have to talk about the next steps that have to be taken... it depends a lot on what responses we get from Pakistan,' the Congress leader stated. Former Indian Ambassador to France Mohan Kumar also affirmed the delegation's impact, noting the universal condemnation of terrorism and support for India's defensive actions. 'I can confidently say... an all-party delegation was appreciated by all our interlocutors. It was accepted that India spoke in one voice... There was unanimous and universal condemnation of terrorism. There was support for India's action and condolences for victims (of Pahalgam attack)... We have conveyed clearly to them that it was not our choice to have a war and that we were merely responding to the horrific terrorist attacks,' Kumar stated. CPI-M MP John Brittas summarised the trip's success, stating that India's peace-oriented stance despite terrorism challenges was successfully communicated. 'It has been a successful trip to the five nations. We met many sections of society. We could convey the message of India about what actually happened and how cross-border terrorism affects us. We understand that they appreciate that India wants to be on the path of peace and progress,' the CPI-M MP stated. The delegation also included BJP MPs Brij Lal, Pradan Baruah, and Hemang Joshi; TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee.
