Rajnath hails PM Modi's 11-yr tenure as era of unprecedented development
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday lauded the 11-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a period of "unprecedented development" and "epoch-making political, social, and economic transformations."
Highlighting India's growing self-reliance in the defence sector, Singh credited PM Modi's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat for empowering the country to stand confidently among the world's top five economies. 'India today stands well-equipped, confident, and unwavering in its resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs,' he said in a series of tweets on social media platform X.
Reflecting on the broader impact of the last decade, Singh stated, 'These 11 Years of Seva have been a story of the realisation of the dreams of our freedom fighters and Constitution makers—who envisioned a democracy that is not just political, but also social and economic in nature.'
He emphasised that under PM Modi's dynamic leadership, India is not merely progressing, but rising to claim its 'rightful place in the comity of nations.' Singh also congratulated every citizen who has contributed to this transformative journey, stating, 'Together, we move forward—stronger, prouder, and united.'
Enumerating the key achievements of the Modi government, the Defence Minister pointed to initiatives that have enhanced the ease of living for citizens and ease of doing business for entrepreneurs. From women empowerment to farmers' welfare, Singh said, the administration has worked with a 'focused and committed effort to uplift and strengthen every section of society.'
He cited flagship welfare schemes such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat, and Ujjwala Yojana as historic initiatives that have ensured dignity, health, and empowerment for millions of the poorest of the poor.
'Alongside, the massive expansion in physical infrastructure—from highways to railways, from smart cities to digital connectivity—and the strengthening of human resources in healthcare and education have laid the foundation for a new India,' the Defence Minister said.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday described the eleven years of the Modi government as transformational and the one that redefined and reshaped Indian politics. Addressing a press conference at the party HQs, BJP President J.P. Nadda said that in the past 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the culture of Indian politics, and it should be etched in the history books in golden letters. He said the Modi government has brought defining change in the country's politics and marked a decisive shift from -- politics of appeasement to the politics of report cards. 'This has become the new normal,' Nadda said. '11 years ago, appeasement and division of society on caste and religion were the political culture. But after 2014, a responsible government took charge under PM Modi, which started the politics of the report card,' he added. 'A remarkable transformation has taken place in the past eleven years. In the past, politics was often driven by appeasement politics, but that has now shifted to politics of performance, accountability, and responsible governance. This has now become the new normal,' he said. Nadda credited the Prime Minister for ushering in bold reforms across sectors and also for launching path-breaking initiatives like revoking Article 370 and Triple Talaq. 'Our government took bold and historic decisions in the national interest. We abrogated Article 370 and abolished Triple Talaq. We enacted a new Waqf Act and passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). We also ensured 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies,' the BJP chief pointed out. He said that it is difficult to present a full account of 11 years of governance in a single press conference; however, he underscored that the gamut of visionary policies and bold reforms has laid the foundation of a developed and self-reliant India. He said that bold and transparent governance under PM Modi has laid the foundation for a futuristic administration, and this will pave the way for the realisation of the Viksit Bharat dream. The growing public sentiment of 'Modi hai tau mumkin hai' shows people's unflinching faith and confidence in PM Modi's leadership and reinforces the belief that even arduous tasks can be overcome under his stewardship, he opined. Nadda further underlined the government's unwavering commitment towards building Bharat of everyone's dreams and said that the mantra of 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas' remains its governing principle.

SC declines urgent listing of Tamil Nadu's suit for Rs 2,291 crore education funds
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday declined to urgently list a suit filed by the Tamil Nadu government against the Union Government, seeking the release of over Rs 2,291 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme (SSS). A bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan rejected the plea for early listing during the court's partial working days, observing that there was "no urgency" in the matter. Senior Advocate P. Wilson, representing the Tamil Nadu government, pressed for an urgent hearing, arguing that nearly 48 lakh students in the state were being deprived of essential education funds. 'All students in Tamil Nadu are being denied their right to education funds by the central government. The new academic year began on June 3, and admissions are underway,' Wilson submitted. When Justice Mishra enquired when the funds had stopped, Wilson responded that the funds had not been released since last year and that the original suit was filed on May 20, 2025. Despite this, the bench declined the urgent listing request. Tamil Nadu has approached the Supreme Court under Article 131 of the Constitution, accusing the Centre of unlawfully withholding funds under the SSS. The state contends that the denial is tied to its non-implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the PM SHRI (Schools for Rising India) scheme. In its suit, Tamil Nadu seeks a direction for the Union Government to release the pending Rs 2,291 crore along with applicable interest. The state also seeks a declaration that making the release of SSS funds contingent upon the adoption of NEP 2020 and the PM SHRI scheme is 'unconstitutional, illegal, unreasonable, and arbitrary. Ex-chief minister N Biren Singh leaves for Delhi amid escalating Manipur tensions
Former chief minister N Biren Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha lawmaker Leishemba Sanajaoba left for New Delhi on Monday to brief central leaders on the escalating tensions in the ethnic violence-hit Manipur. An influential Meitei outfit member's arrest over the weekend triggered the fresh violence that left at least 11 people injured and prompted authorities to reimpose restrictions, and governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to conduct a security review. Singh, who resigned as the chief minister in February after the Supreme Court directed a central forensics lab to examine leaked audio tapes allegedly featuring him purportedly saying the ethnic violence was instigated at his behest, declined to comment when asked whether Union home minister Amit Shah had summoned them. Singh said they were headed to New Delhi to apprise the central leadership of the worsening situation, four months after the president's rule was imposed in Manipur in February following Singh's resignation. 'I appeal to the public, this is a very crucial stage. People should act cautiously and in unity, avoiding violence. Unity is our strength, and every step taken should move us toward peace.' Protesters on Sunday defied prohibitory orders and blocked major roads in parts of the state capital, Imphal, by burning debris and tyres, a day after clashes rocked the city. A police post was torched, forcing police to use tear gas shells. A road was blocked to stop Border Security Force personnel from entering the city. The arrest of Kanan Singh, a member of the Meitei body Arambai Tenggol, and the detention of four of his associates triggered the latest wave of violence. On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation said that it had arrested Singh over his involvement in the violence in the state. On Saturday, hundreds of protesters resorted to arson and threw stones at security forces as the news of Singh's arrest broke. The Arambai Tenggol demanded Singh's immediate release and announced a 10-day shutdown. Singh was dismissed from the police force this year over his alleged involvement in smuggling weapons and looting armouries. The authorities suspended broadband and mobile data services in Imphal East and West, Kakching, Thoubal, and Bishnupur, saying some 'anti-social elements might use social media' to incite the public. A curfew was reimposed in Bishnupur for the first time this year. The movement of people in the valley districts was restricted due to apprehension of a breach of peace. The fresh unrest comes against the backdrop of a meeting between Union home ministry officials and representatives of Kuki-Zo militant groups who signed a Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact in 2008. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since the peace pact was put in abeyance last year. The Union and the Manipur governments signed the pact with the militant groups. I was renewed annually until 2024, when the renewal was kept in abeyance following allegations that members of the groups were involved in the ethnic violence. The protracted violence between Meiteis and Kukis was triggered in May 2023 and has left around 250 people dead and thousands displaced. Meiteis live largely in the plains of the Imphal valley, and the Kukis in the hills. They have withdrawn to their respective strongholds. The groups have since 2023 set up road blockades to restrict each other's and the movement of essential items between their strongholds.
