Comedian Russell Brand pleads not guilty to rape and sex assault charges in UK court

LONDON (Reuters) -British actor and comedian Russell Brand on Friday pleaded not guilty in a London court to charges of rape and sexual assault relating to four women more than two decades ago.
Brand, once one of Britain's most high-profile broadcasters and former husband of U.S. pop singer Katy Perry, appeared at Southwark Crown Court and denied all five criminal charges.
The 49-year-old has consistently denied having non-consensual sex since allegations were first aired two years ago.
British prosecutors announced in April that Brand had been charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault against four women between 1999 and 2005.
Brand, who previously gave his address as being in England but also lives in the U.S., is due to stand trial in June 2026.

LONDON: British far-right activist Tommy Robinson pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of harassing two journalists, as dozens of supporters gathered outside the London court just days after he was freed from jail. On leaving jail, he thanked technology billionaire Elon Musk for his X platform and slammed the UK government in a social media video. After the hearing Thursday he was met with dozens of supporters chanting his name and cheering at the central London court. Many wore Donald Trump-inspired MEGA -- Make England Great Again -- hats, carried English flags and wore 'Free Tommy Robinson' T-shirts. The former football hooligan, who founded the far-right English Defence League in 2009, has repeatedly been convicted for public order and contempt offences. He has also been blamed for helping fuel the country's worst riots in years in 2024, which he denies.

Police: Body in Bangsar lift shaft confirmed as missing British man [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed that the body found in the elevator shaft of a partially under-construction condominium in Bangsar is that of missing British backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle. City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a post-mortem examination showed that the cause of death was a chest injury due to a fall from height. "I can confirm that the body is that of the person who was reported missing on June 2," he said in a statement today. He said there was no evidence of foul play. The case has been classified as sudden death. "The victim's uncle positively identified the body as that of Jordan Johnson-Doyle, based on a tattoo on his body," he said. Earlier today, it was reported that police were searching for clues in the vicinity of the Lorong Maarof condo where the body was found. Policemen were also analysing closed-circuit television footage from the area. They were also looking for the deceased's personal documents. Police on Wednesday had traced Johnson-Doyle's movements to the condominium at 4pm. A 30-strong team of police personnel conducted a search of the entire building. Around 5pm, a body was discovered in a partially submerged elevator shaft in a building section that was still under construction. The body was found in an isolated area. Johnson-Doyle, a software engineer, had been backpacking across the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia for over a year, working remotely for an American tech company. He arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after visiting Vietnam and is believed to have been staying at the Robertson Residences in Bukit Bintang. His last communication was with his mother on May 26.

"I recently suffered a minor injury and haven't been able to train properly in recent weeks," Ingebrigtsen said in a statement on the race event website. "My condition is improving, but I need to postpone my return to racing and will be back on the track later this year." Ingebrigtsen, twice Olympic champion, has been a key figure in a trial involving his father, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, after Norwegian police pressed charges last year accusing him of abusing two of his seven children, including Jakob.
