Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has drawn widespread attention for his dramatic offseason conditioning. Featured recently in Men's Health magazine, the 26-year-old appears poised to silence his critics.
While attending a New York Yankees game on Monday, Doncic discussed his Men's Health feature. When asked if he would send a copy to the Mavericks, the superstar responded by saying:
"I think they've already seen it, so we don't have to worry about that."
Mavs GM Nico Harrison was among the many people who criticized Doncic's conditioning. Reports suggested that the lack of attention he paid to fitness was viewed as a reason for his injuries, leading to growing skepticism about his ability to lead the franchise to title success.
When considering that the Slovenian had led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals just a year ago, the criticism seemed misaligned. Regardless, the comment about his fitness was all the motivation Doncic needed heading into the summer.
Coming off a postseason run filled with scrutiny, the Lakers' superstar set out to reshape the narrative in what many are calling his revenge season. With a renewed focus on conditioning in the offseason, Doncic has seemingly surpassed expectations, displaying a physique that fans haven't seen before.
Doncic's training regimen has reportedly been influenced by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, featuring a single-minded obsession with getting into the best possible shape he can.
After making significant dietary changes and enduring grueling workout plans, the guard appears to be in the best shape of his career. The 26-year-old also claims that these efforts have seen a resurgence in his athletic ability.
The Slovenian seems committed to the grind, adding that his efforts would be meaningless without long-term consistency. Following widespread backlash and questions about his competitive drive, Doncic seems to be responding in the best way possible: through action.
The upcoming season is primed to be a pivotal one for the guard, who has seemingly embraced his role as the face of the Lakers franchise. Having played an active role in recruiting free agents while also getting into shape, Doncic has displayed a commitment to the team that can only be considered reassuring.
Initial concerns regarding his decision to sign an extension with the Lakers have effectively dissipated, as the guard is expected to ink his future with the team this weekend.
Although the upcoming regular season is undoubtedly a priority, the 26-year-old will shift his attention to the EuroBasket tournament first. In the process of representing his home country, Slovenia, Doncic will also display the fruits of his labor. This story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

Mikal Bridges agrees to a $150 million extension with the Knicks, AP source says

Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Mikal Bridges agreed to a four-year, $150 million extension with the New York Knicks on Thursday, a person with knowledge of the details said. The person confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it had not been announced. It was first reported by ESPN. The Knicks gave up five first-round picks to acquire Bridges last June and he rewarded them by taking less than he could have earned to lock in to a future with former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. Bridges could have earned $156 million in this extension, or even more by waiting until his contract expired next summer. Instead, he took the deal that could allow the Knicks future flexibility to keep building a team that reached the Eastern Conference finals last season for the first time since 2000. Bridges made a couple of huge defensive plays when the Knicks knocked off 2024 NBA champion Boston in the second round. The Knicks sought those defensive abilities and his availability to play every game that is unmatched among current NBA players when they traded the huge package of picks to acquire Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets last summer. Bridges played in every game — as he has in every season in the NBA — and averaged 17.6 points. The NBA's reigning iron man also played in every game in college before appearing in all 556 since entering the NBA as a first-round pick in 2018. He helped Phoenix reach the NBA Finals in 2021 and was runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year the following season, before being dealt to Brooklyn at the 2023 trade deadline as part of the package for Kevin Durant. Bridges averaged 26.1 points in the final 27 games of that season and 19.6 in 2023-24, before becoming more of a supporting offensive piece with the Knicks behind Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. ___ AP NBA: recommended Item 1 of 3

Lakers' LeBron James may announce retirement before 2025-26 season, per report

Whether NBA fans like it or not, LeBron James won't be an active NBA superstar for much longer. Based on recent rumblings surrounding the 40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers forward, James may announce his retirement before the 2025-26 season. 'All the stars have aligned for the 2025-26 season to be James' last, especially since he has always talked about playing 23 years in the NBA, which represents both his and Michael Jordan's iconic number," ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel wrote Saturday. 'Word from Summer League is that if LeBron is to announce his retirement, he will do so in August. Time will tell what the immediate future holds for James.' James, despite his advanced age, was a highly impactful veteran asset with the Lakers during the 2024-25 campaign. The 21-time All-Star can still take over games down the stretch with his high-IQ playmaking and contribute to winning at the highest level. Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp James averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per contest in Year 22, shooting 51.3% from the field and 37.6% from deep on a 50-win Lakers squad. While several reports have suggested that recent drama between James and the Lakers may cause their partnership to end this summer, it's far more likely that James will spend his 23rd NBA season (and first full season alongside Luka Doncic) with Los Angeles following its stunning first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. If a 2025-26 farewell tour is on the way, Siegel appears adamant that James will make it known in August. More NBA:

Mavericks star Anthony Davis gets surgery for detached retina

Anthony Davis recently underwent surgery to repair a detached retina in his eye, according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania. The Mavericks superstar is expected to make a full recovery in time for Dallas' training camp, Charania added. Davis reportedly played through the injury during the regular season and the Mavericks' two-game play-in tournament run. The 10-time All-Star will enter his first full season with the Mavericks in the fall after being traded from the Lakers in the blockbuster Luka Doncic deal. Davis burst onto the scene in Dallas during his first game after the shocking trade, dropping 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in just 31 minutes before leaving the game with a groin injury, which took him off the court for a month and a half. He had already been sidelined for several games with an abdominal strain before the trade and his debut with the Mavericks. In total, Davis played nine regular-season games and both play-in games for the Mavericks before being eliminated by the Grizzlies. The Mavericks were ravaged by injuries late last season. Star point guard Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in early March and isn't expected to be ready to return until late next season — if at all. Big men Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II also missed big chunks of the season. In Irving's absence, Davis is expected to take on a huge workload on both ends of the floor. He'll have help from the highly anticipated rookie Cooper Flagg, whom the Mavericks drafted after getting fortunate in the draft lottery and landing the No. 1 overall pick.
