Will AI take your job? Here are 7 tips that can help you stay ahead in the volatile job market
In the past year alone, the job market has witnessed tremors that few could have predicted with such velocity. From Silicon Valley to Seoul, companies are not just trimming excess; they are restructuring workforces under the weight of artificial intelligence and automation.
Major firms—from media conglomerates to multinational tech giants—have laid off thousands, citing 'operational efficiency' driven by AI integration.
IBM paused hiring for roles it believed could soon be automated. BuzzFeed dismantled its newsroom, turning to AI-assisted content. Even customer support, data entry, and paralegal roles, once deemed irreplaceable due to their human touch, are now under the scanner.
But amidst this churn, there is a silver lining.
A fork in the road: Displacement or reinvention?
The narrative that AI will blanket the workforce in obsolescence is not only alarmist—it is also incomplete. Yes, automation is replacing repetitive, rules-based tasks. But it is simultaneously creating demand for new roles that require judgment, empathy, strategic thinking, and interdisciplinary fluency.
According to the World Economic Forum, while 85 million jobs may be displaced by 2025, 97 million new roles may emerge that are better adapted to the division of labor between humans, machines, and algorithms.

The question is no longer
if
your job will change, but
how
you will adapt to change before it becomes an ultimatum.
Here are strategic tips to stay ahead of AI disruption
Being anxious won't help us, but having a concrete strategy would. Here are tips that can help you safeguard from AI disruption.
Embrace continuous learning, ruthlessly
The half-life of skills is shrinking. What was once a decade is now three to five years. Enroll in short courses, micro-credentials, or even self-paced certifications in areas like data literacy, digital tools, project management, or design thinking.
Platforms like Coursera, edX, and Khan Academy are not just for students—they're the adult armor against irrelevance.
Staying curious is no longer optional; it's your economic lifeline.
Double down on
human-centric skills
Machines can calculate and optimize. But they cannot replicate
you
. Hone your storytelling, negotiation, leadership, creativity, and emotional intelligence—traits that remain the exclusive domain of human cognition.
Roles like UX designers, brand strategists, therapists, teachers, and conflict-resolution experts are seeing a resurgence, precisely because AI can't replicate intuition and empathy.
Learn to co-work with AI
Rather than competing with AI, learn how to
collaborate
with it. Writers are using ChatGPT to brainstorm faster. Data analysts are using machine learning to augment insights. Designers are using generative tools like Midjourney or DALL·E to accelerate ideation.
Become the professional who knows how to pilot AI tools—not the one who fears them.
Build a multi-domain skill stack
The age of deep silos is fading. The most resilient professionals combine skills from diverse fields—think data analyst with storytelling skills, or marketer with coding basics.
This hybrid fluency allows you to pivot quickly and plug into multiple roles, making you far harder to replace.
Focus on roles that involve decision-making and strategy
Automation thrives in execution, but it falters in ambiguity. Strategic roles that involve evaluating risks, managing people, or navigating unstructured problems will remain insulated longer.
If you can position yourself as a
decision-maker
rather than an
executor
, you shift from replaceable to indispensable.
Strengthen your digital presence and portfolio
In a world where hiring is increasingly digital, your online footprint is your reputation. Keep your LinkedIn current. Create a portfolio—even if you're not a creative. Write blogs, publish thought pieces, or even share case studies of your work. Let recruiters and algorithms see your
value
, not just your résumé.
Think like an entrepreneur—even if you're an employee
Treat your career like a startup: agile, evolving, and opportunistic. Can you create a niche offering in your domain? Can you consult, mentor, or freelance on the side? Even within your job, seek intrapreneurial opportunities—launch initiatives, volunteer for cross-functional projects, or lead change.
This entrepreneurial mindset breeds resilience, and more importantly,
relevance
.
Hope, not hype: A future worth building
While the anxiety around job loss is legitimate, history shows that technological revolutions do not lead to permanent unemployment—they lead to
redefinition
. The industrial revolution didn't eliminate work; it restructured it. The digital revolution did the same. And now, AI is simply the next chapter in that continuum.
The winners of this era will not be those who resist change, but those who preempt it—those who learn, adapt, and evolve faster than their roles can become obsolete.
Final Word
Will AI take your job? Possibly.
Can you future-proof yourself against it? Absolutely.
Because at the end of the day, machines may learn faster, but only humans can dream bigger.

Newly laid bund road to ease traffic on two busy roads in Coimbatore
The newly laid bund road. Photo by P Sreedharan COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has opened a new road from Lanka Corner Railway bridge to the Vincent Road Junction to ease traffic congestion on the Big Bazaar Road and Vincent Road. The road is said to reduce at least 30% of the vehicle flow heading towards Bazaar Street up to Ukkadam. The road, laid on the bunds of Valankulam Lake, terminates a few metres away from the Ukkadam- Sungam bypass roundabout. The one-way stretch of 805 meters is open to two vehicles and cars proceeding towards from the Government Hospital Road. This initiative is part of the city corporation's traffic management plan to have better mobility within the city limits. According to a corporation officer, "The road is about seven meters wide and can handle cars as well. Except for heavy vehicles, the rest of the vehicles heading towards Ukkadam can use this route. The entire day, irrespective of peak hours, the Vincent Road remains congested as too many vehicles use this narrow road as an alternative to reach Ukkadam. Hence from now on, those vehicles wouldn't have to take the Vincent Road. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo " Arfan Ahmed, who works at a garment store in Karumbukkadai, said, "Vincent Road would be completely congested during peak hours, especially in the evenings. Many people visit the eateries on this road, resulting in traffic. Also, it is the shortest route to reach Ukkadam flyover up ramp on the Sungam Bypass." The corporation is planning a similar alternative route along the Royal Theatre that will be connected to this newly laid bund road. The corporation official said, "To cater to the congestion caused by vehicles coming from the Goodshed Road that get through Vincent Road, a similar bund road has been planned along the Royal theatre. A study to prepare an estimate is under way." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Goa's idol makers battle PoP threat ahead of festivities
Panaji: As Ganesh Chaturthi nears and concerns rise over market penetration of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, the Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) has begun surveying markets to prevent the sale of PoP idols. Over the last four years, the number of registered traditional idol makers rose from 367 to 475, said GHRSSIDC managing director Damodar Morajkar. Despite the corporation's subsidy scheme, traditional idol makers struggle with rising costs, insufficient aid, and labour shortages. Morajkar said the survey to identify PoP idol sales began on Aug 8, and so far, GHRSSIDC's inspection has flagged none. He said that the inspection will continue until Aug 24. 'Local mud clay idols are the customer's first choice, due to our awareness campaigns. The Shadu Mati and coconut fibre idols from Maharashtra are also in demand, but not as much as the local clay ones,' Morajkar told TOI . GHRSSIDC offers a subsidy of Rs 250 per idol for up to 250 idols to the local idol makers. As of July 2025, GHRSSIDC received 367 local vendor applications for registration. In 2024, 475 vendors received subsidies totalling Rs 90.5 lakh on the sale of 45,248 idols, Morajkar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Redefine Your Future with a Top Online MBA SRM Online Enquire Now Undo Pernem, Sattari, and Bicholim talukas have the highest concentration of traditional Ganesh idol makers in Goa. 'Earlier, we used to get the Chikal Mati at Rs 20,000 for a 10m truck. Now, the prices have risen to Rs 25,000,' said Bicholim sculptor Durgaram Shet. Shet said long travel for vendors to get mud is making sourcing difficult for some sculptors. Local artisans allege the PoP idol ban is not strictly enforced. The clay idols are heavier, with rich colours being another distinguishing feature. Umakant Poke, a third-generation sculptor from Morjim, Pernem, said that because certain vendors sell PoP idols, local sculptors catch negative attention from handicraft officials. 'They think we are selling PoP idols. We are hard-working people, and trying to earn money with our honest efforts,' Poke said. HC order paves way for disabled bank staffer's promotion after 5 yrs
1 2 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court has directed a public sector bank to give a physically disabled man working with the bank his promotion within 45 days, which was held back for nearly five years. It also directed the bank to give him a posting in Kolkata where he can have a support system. However, the division bench of justices Sujoy Paul and Smita Das De on Aug 14 directed that he would not get arrears of pay from the date of his restoration of promotion but his seniority and pay would be made on the basis of the post where he has been promoted. Anirban Pal joined the bank in 2005. In 2015, he met with an accident, resulting in 70% disability. In 2016, Pal did not participate in the promotion process (from Scale-III officer to Scale-IV) fearing transfer from Kolkata, but when he saw his two other colleagues with physical disabilities getting promoted without transfer, he applied. In Oct 2018, he was promoted but transferred to Patna. He approached the bank stating that in the absence of family support, it would be difficult for him to perform his duties and take care of himself in Patna. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? In 2020, his request for restoration of the promotion was rejected. H is matter came up before a single judge who dismissed the case, considering Pal approached in 2023 with a delay of three years and imposed a cost of Rs 3 lakh on the bank for disclosing details. Pal's counsel, Srijib Chakraborty, argued that March 15, 2020, to Feb 28, 2022, was a Covid period, wherein the SC also said that the period in between would not be counted for the purpose of counting limitation in any proceeding. The division bench accepted the reason for delay given by Pal's advocate, setting aside the order of the single judge. "The petitioner had a preferential right to be posted in Kolkata in view of the binding policy of the Department. A suitable and meritorious officer was not posted at Kolkata for reasons best known to the Department. No justifiable reason was spelt out in not posting the petitioner on promotion at Kolkata despite the mandate ingrained in the guidelines..." the HC held.
