Henderson and Aston Martini are the toast of Compiegne

It is the second time Henderson has won the Listed event after Fixe Le Kap's triumph in 2017 and the Seven Barrows handler was delighted to visit a track he once rode at some 50 years ago to celebrate a horse bred and then leased to the syndicate named in honour of the late Henry Ponsonby by the late Richard Aston of Goldford Stud.
Henderson said: 'That was fantastic, a great performance, and we only came here to achieve one thing and that was to get some black type, as there were no more Listed races in Britain and we've had it in mind for some time.
Emphatic victory!

'It nearly scuppered our plan to see Il Est Francais in the race, but she was amazing – it's a beautiful track and it was beautiful ground with so much grass on it, it's a great place.
'I was talking to Noel George and he said it wasn't just Il Est Francais in there and there was also some other very good horses in there.
'It's actually the second time we've won that race and we won it with Fixe Le Kap in 2017 and I rode here 50 years ago in a cross-country, which is a bit scary.'
Aston Martini jumped excellently throughout in the hands of Felix de Giles, moving stylishly into contention in the home straight and soon alongside Il Est Francais, who folded tamely before the last, allowing the six-year-old mare to stride clear for a thoroughly impressive 10-length success.
Henderson revelled in having old ally De Giles back riding for him again on a big occasion, while also praising the huge team effort that was required to overcome some obstacles en route to cross-channel glory.
'It was great to have Felix on board again and he's a good old friend – he actually started with us the same year as Nico (de Boinville),' continued Henderson.
'There was a group of them – Nico, David Bass, Andrew Tinkler, Jerry McGrath, Richard Killoran – they were all here the same years and it was lovely to have Felix ride for me again – he's even learnt to speak French properly now, which is the whole point of having him as then I don't have to try.
'We schooled her over fences to get her ready for these hurdles as they really are considerably more substantial than ours and she's jumped beautifully the whole way.
'We've had to be here rather a long time as there was a strike on Monday and all sorts of complications and it was a lot of hard work. I have to praise my girls in the office as well as it has been a nightmare and we almost ditched it, but thankfully we didn't.'

WATCH: Aberdeen's midfield pairing puzzle assessed - who should Jimmy Thelin pick?

After Aberdeen's first two matches of the new Premiership season, our sports journalists Ryan Cryle and Paul Third sat down to discuss Jimmy Thelin's midfield puzzle. Who are his best duo in the centre of the park? So far this campaign, where the Dons have lost 2-0 to Hearts and then Celtic, manager Thelin has deployed a central midfield pairing of Sivert Heltne Nilsen and Leighton Clarkson, and Nilsen and skipper Graeme Shinnie, respectively. In Sunday's defeat to the Hoops at Pittodrie, the Reds boss subbed off veteran pairing Nilsen and Shinnie for Clarkson and Polvara over the second half – with the latter, especially, a player fans are desperate to see get more opportunities as a starter. The Aberdeen gaffer also has Croatian former wunderkind Ante Palaversa – a regular last term – and Icelandic current wunderkind Kjartan Mar Kjartansson, among his options to fill two berths in his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation (if we accept French loanee Adil Aouchiche is the first-choice no.10). What have we learned so far this season, including in the friendly loss to English Championship Ipswich Town, about (some of) Aberdeen's midfield candidates? Which individuals have attributes which our writers think mesh up well together in the middle of the pitch? Where do lesser-used options like the attacking Polvara and 'complete' defensive midfielder Kjartansson fit into the plan? And who would our writers pick as the Dons try to get up and running in a campaign where they have guaranteed European league phase football to look forward to? Let us know what you think in the comments!

REVEALED: The left-field ex-Don who helped convince Adil Aouchiche to sign for Aberdeen

Adil Aouchiche has revealed the wildcard former Aberdeen striker whose praise for the club was a 'main step' in him deciding to join the Dons. French attacking midfielder Aouchiche, 23, is on a season-long loan from English Premier League new boys Sunderland. The Dons hold an option-to-buy the former Paris Saint-Germain talent from the Black Cats for a Reds club-record fee of £1.5 million next summer – should he impress sufficiently this term. Though Aouchiche is already a Ligue 1, French Cup and English Championship play-offs winner – who used to train daily in Paris with global superstar forwards like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe – it was, surprisingly, a left-field ex-Aberdeen fringe frontman who encouraged his switch to the Dons. Aouchiche said: 'Mo(hamed) Chalali is the best friend of one of my cousins, so I had the chance to speak to him on FaceTime. 'It was good – a really important step for me. He said good things about the club and the people here. 'It was one of the main steps of this move because I didn't really know what is happening inside the club, so I was happy to hear good things.' French-born Algeria-capped forward Chalali was brought to Aberdeen by Craig Brown in 2011, and in a season with the Dons, scored twice in 15 starts. While Chalali also sounded out current English Championship and Premier League players about Scottish football and Aberdeen, fans will likely be delighted to hear of this fresh Chalali contribution to the Reds cause. Aouchiche started in the no.10 role in Aberdeen's Premiership campaign-opening 2-0 defeats to both Hearts and Celtic. In what was a decent Dons start against the champions at Pittodrie on Saturday, Aouchiche was lively and had one curling effort from range saved by Hoops keeper Kasper Schmeichel. The Frenchman says he is more focused on winning, scoring and creating chances for the Reds this term than fixating on where his future beyond this season may lie – or feeling any pressure from his potential Aberdeen-record pricetag. He said: 'I don't really focus on how much it is, but, of course, both clubs are confident about this move and the transfer. 'I just care about what I do on the pitch and how I can help the club. 'That decision will be at the end of the season. I'll just focus on my football and see what happens. 'Of course, I am glad to be a player the club is putting good money on, so that's a motivation for me. 'The club wants to buy me, which is always good for a player to know. 'I don't see that as pressure, I know the pressure of football and I'm used to being in this type of position. 'I just need to be myself, enjoy on the pitch. 'From being a young kid, I just wanted to play football, win games, score in games and create goals. 'I just wanted to enjoy on the pitch and I think being here will be good for me.' Aouchiche accepts Aberdeen and a Saturday trip to Championship Greenock Morton in the Premier Sports Cup is a departure from the glamour of Paris' Parc des Princes, first leaving for three years with Saint-Etienne, before a season at Lorient, then joining Sunderland in 2023. However, the playmaker – who also had a loan spell across the English second-tier with Portsmouth last term, thinks his football experiences, good and bad, will help him bring value to Aberdeen – while he can also continue to develop with the Dons. He said: 'I came from one of the best clubs in the world in PSG, played for two good clubs in France and a huge club in England in Sunderland. 'So I want to bring my experience to Aberdeen. 'The things I learned will help me for the rest of my career – sometimes it was hard and other times it was good. 'For me, as a player, it was good for me to be sometimes at the bottom.' Aouchiche also still believes he can rise back up to football's upper echelons. He added: 'I think I have the possibilities and the qualities to go to one of the best clubs in the world. 'I'm not scared about the situation because I think it's a really good step for me in my career.'
