Arizona vs Duke officials blasted for flagrant foul fiasco in Sweet 16: 'That's not right'
Some college basketball fans are crying foul over the officiating in Arizona's 100-93 loss to Duke in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night.
And one play in the March Madness game especially caught their ire.
Not long after Arizona's Jaden Bradley was called for a flagrant foul after bringing Duke's Kon Knueppel to the floor in the second half, Duke's Patrick Ngongba II brought down Arizona's Henri Veesaar in a similar manner.

However, the officials ruled Ngongba's play to be a common foul, not a flagrant foul, drawing criticism from the CBS Sports announcing team as well as social media.

CBS Sports announcers criticize officiating in Arizona vs Duke game:
Here's how the situation went down on CBS as the play was being reviewed:
"It will be interesting to see if the officials stay consistent with that call, because they already gave it to Arizona," analyst Jim Jackson said.

"Yeah, I don't see much difference in Bradley's versus this one," play-by-play announcer Brian Anderson replied.
"I think J.J. (Jim Jackson), you really nailed this … Ngongba takes him down," rules analyst Gene Steratore said.
Then after the officials announced it as a common foul, Steratore said: "I'm a little surprised by that fellas, I'm a little surprised by that. You know, it's one thing to be tied up like J.J. said earlier, but then you take him down to the ground. To me, now we're into those other descriptions of excessive and that's unnecessary to me. That's excessive to me. That rises to a flagrant foul."
Anderson then said: "I'm with you. That's a big break for Duke."

SEC program reportedly 'took hard look' at Alabama coach prior to contract extension
SEC program reportedly 'took hard look' at Alabama coach prior to contract extension In the midst of news reporting that the Alabama Crimson Tide had extended head coach Rob Vaughn on Tuesday night, it was also reported that a fellow SEC baseball program also took a look at the head man in Tuscaloosa as well. The report came from D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers, who reported Tuesday night that Vaughn was one-of-three names that the Texas A&M Aggies took a hard look at behind the scenes. Texas A&M is one-of-two SEC programs making coaching changes this offseason, as the Aggies recently parted ways with former head coach Michael Earley following a disappointing 30-26 overall season that included an 11-19 mark in SEC play. Vaughn is coming off his second season at Alabama after joining the program from Maryland, and has since led the Crimson Tide to a 74-42 overall record that features a 29-31 record in SEC play. The 2025 season was also Vaughn's best yet at Alabama, leading the Crimson Tide to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance at 41-18 overall (16-14 in SEC). Dan Hurley makes Knicks stance clear as rumors swirl about UConn coach's interest
Dan Hurley's future served as the talk of the college basketball world spanning the nearly 3,000 miles from Los Angeles to Storrs, Conn. around this time last year when the Lakers had an opening. The UConn men's basketball coach has no plans of a repeat saga now that the Knicks are searching for their head coach with Tom Thibodeau canned. Advertisement 'Not another summer of that,' Hurley said Tuesday night, per the Hartford Courant. While this is not a definitive 'no,' it's an indication that Hurley does not — at least to start — have a wandering eye toward Madison Square Garden and replacing Thibodeau. UConn sources are also not sweating the possibility of Hurley wanting to leave for Broadway, according to the New Haven Register. There have been rumors about the Knicks being a potential dream destination for the two-time championship coach who grew up in Jersey City and starred for Seton Hall, with that chatter only amplified after he turned down the Lakers' six-year, $70 million offer. Advertisement 3 Dan Hurley indicated he won't be deciding between the Knicks and UConn this summer. AP Hurley signed a six-year, $50 million contract extension with UConn last year that will take him through the 2029 season. The 52-year-old focused on the Huskies' roster for the 2025-26 season rather than discuss whether he'd be a fit to lead several former Villanova stars now wearing orange and blue. Advertisement 3 Tom Thibodeau is out as Knicks coach. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post 'Two days into practice, not everyone is on campus, but we're thrilled with the way we've been able to put it together,' Hurley said Tuesday, per the Courant. One of the selling points for a college job compared to an NBA one is that Hurley is a made man in Connecticut, compared to the brutal pro ranks where coaches are hired to be fired. Follow The Post's coverage of the Knicks' stunning firing of head coach Tom Thibodeau Advertisement Thibodeau led the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference finals trip in 25 years and turned the franchise from a laughing stock into a title contender, but not even that could save him. Not every coach wants to inherit that type of pressure. 3 Dan Hurley and his best friend, a referee. Bob Donnan-Imagn Images Hurley, on the other hand, is facing no heat after having a down season by his recent standards in which the Huskies bowed out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in their quest for a three-peat. If Hurley is not a factor in the race, he could be the second two-time championship coach passing on the Knicks with former Villanova coach Jay Wright reportedly not un-retiring to coach the team. Arkansas coach and former Kentucky leader John Calipari is a possible option, per The Post's Stefan Bondy, due to his connections to Knicks president Leon Rose and front office executive William Wesley.
