DNA confirms identity of murdered journalist Aserie Ndlovu and partner
DNA has confirmed the remains of murdered community radio journalist Aserie Sibusiso Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli.
On Wednesday, the national police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said the human remains were analysed and matched with the reference sample of the biological relatives of the deceased.
After almost a month of waiting, DNA has confirmed that the remains which were found in Rust De Winter, Gauteng, belong to murdered community radio journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli who vanished mysteriously in February.
"A positive DNA match thus confirms that the discovered remains are that of the missing couple. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has already notified both families and is pleased to have assisted to provide closure to both families," said Mathe.
Meanwhile, seven suspects arrested in this case are currently appearing before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga where they are facing various charges ranging from kidnapping, house robbery to possession of stolen property.
Police recovered two VW Citi Golfs allegedly fitted with parts from Ndlovu's vehicle, as well as household items believed to have been stolen from the couple's home.
The couple was last seen on February 18, 2025, at their home in Mpumalanga, in their white Volkswagen Citi Golf.

Urgent search for Free State teen kidnapped by fake police officers
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State has launched a Search Task Team after a 19-year-old was kidnapped by two men impersonating police on Thursday. Kamogela Kaukudi was snatched at about 11.55am. The provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, said the teenager was kidnapped after he was collected from school. The two left the school premises with Kamogelo driving the Suzuki Ertiga,' Covane said. He said the two pulled over after hearing sirens. 'Whilst driving along Vereeniging Drive, Erlichpark Extension, Daniel alleges that they heard a siren sound from behind, and they were pulled over by a White Toyota Hilux GD-6 Double Cab. Inside the Toyota Hilux, there were two unknown male persons; one wearing a police uniform and the other a blue tracksuit,' he said.

Carletonville: Manhunt launched for suspects in police officer's hijacking and kidnapping A manhunt is underway after a police officer was hijacked and kidnapped by a group of armed men in the Carletonville area. The incident occurred recently on the P111 road, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. According to police reports, the officer was driving a state-owned bakkie when he was ambushed by six armed suspects traveling in a Toyota Venture. Three of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and approached the officer with firearms drawn. One hijacker climbed onto the back of the bakkie, while another entered the passenger side. The officer was forced at gunpoint to drive to a secluded location. Once there, the suspects tied his hands and feet and left him near a mine dump. They fled the scene with his service pistol, two cellphones, and keys to the state vehicle. Despite the ordeal, the officer managed to flag down a passing mine truck for help. The case is being investigated by the Special Trio Task Team, which has already identified two suspects still at large.
