Boston Marathon 2025: Date, time, route and how to watch race
The 2025 edition of the Boston Marathon will again see some of the world's best distance runners compete alongside a large mass participation field.
First held in the 19th century, a tough 26.2-mile course will test elite and recreational runners alike with 30,000 entrants again set to start.
One of six World Marathon Majors, it will be held on Patriots' Day in the United States, as is traditional.
Defending champion Hellen Obiri returns but faces tough competition in a strong elite women's field, while Sisay Lemma is also back to bid for another elite men's title.

The Boston Marathon will be held on Monday 21 April around the Massachusetts city.

How to watch the Boston Marathon
In the UK, you can watch the Boston Marathon on TNT Sports 4, with coverage beginning at 2,30pm BST and lasting until 5.15pm. A live stream will be available via discovery+.
What is the course?
The course begins in Hopkinton, a town in rural Massachusetts, with runners setting off from Main Street and heading down Route 135. They will plod through the towns of Ashland, Framingham, and Natick, before joining Route 16 shortly after Wellesley. Hanging a right on to Commonwealth Avenue (Route 30) by the fire station in Newton Lower Falls, the course continues over the Newton Hills and by Boston College, a university, before arriving at Cleveland Circle via Chestnut Hill Avenue.
The runners will then negotiate a left turn on to Beacon Street as it nears the finish, turning right on to Hereford Street, left on to Boylston Street and eventually concluding near the Boston Public Library in Copley Square in the heart of the city.

June 4 - After missing the Baltimore Ravens' two playoff games in January with a right knee sprain, wide receiver Zay Flowers is reportedly on track to return to full strength after avoiding offseason surgery. Flowers suffered the injury in the regular-season finale against Cleveland, resulting in the wideout watching from the sidelines as the Ravens fell in the divisional round. According to Baltimore's team website, Flowers assured that his "knee's great" and that he's "ready for the season, no limits." A 2023 first-round pick by the Ravens out of Boston College, Flowers led Baltimore with 74 catches and 1,059 receiving yards in 2024. He also hauled in four touchdown passes and became the first Raven to be selected to the Pro Bowl at wide receiver. With him now practicing at the team's OTAs, Baltimore offensive coordinator Todd Monken emphasized that the Ravens need to prepare to increase Flowers' production in 2025. "We've just got to get him the ball more," Monken said, via the team's website. "He's an unbelievable football player. He's not only an outside receiver that has elite route-running skills, but he's unbelievable with the ball in his hands. "So you have a guy that really plays two spots. ... I expect him to take another leap. When you make it to the Pro Bowl, or you're an All-Pro, you're pretty good." Boston Red Sox manager addresses criticism after missing game for daughter's graduation
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is defending himself for missing one of the team's games to attend his daughter's college graduation. Cora skipped Monday's game between the Red Sox and the New York Mets at Boston's Fenway Park in order to watch his daughter, Camila, participate in a graduation ceremony at Boston College. 'I made the best decision for my daughter, and for those who don't understand, I'm not gonna try to convince them,' Cora told reporters on Tuesday in a video NBC Sports Boston shared on TikTok. Cora came under fire in local media for skipping the game, which the Red Sox won 3-1. Mike Felger, a popular radio personality at 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, slammed Cora's decision, noting that Boston College's graduation ceremony took place in the morning while the Red Sox game started at 6:45 p.m. 'They were, I believe, done by noon, which means you can have a nice big party in the middle of the day,' Felger said, according to the Boston Herald. 'Just cab down the street and manage the game.' 'It's just the leadership and optics of the whole thing,' Felger added. 'It's a very easy chance for him to say, 'Nothing's more important than tonight's game.'' In NBC Sports Boston's video from the follow-up press conference, Cora could be seen shaking his head in disagreement as one reporter suggested he could have 'rushed out' of his daughter's graduation to attend the game. '(Camila) wanted me to be with her and it was her day so this is secondary,' Cora responded. 'You know, we're in this world for a purpose, right, and for me, it's to raise her, try to do the best we can. Obviously it wasn't perfect, but right now, it's perfect,' he said. 'I wasn't going to miss it,' he later added. Cora later laughed after another reporter asked him if he was bothered by the criticism. 'People have their own opinions,' Cora replied. 'I bet those people, they have families too. And at one point, they had to make decisions, too. And I bet they made decisions for the best of the family.' Sports fans applauded Cora's decision to prioritize his child in the comments section of NBC Sports Boston's video. 'There are 162 games in the baseball season for some reason. His daughter graduates once,' one wrote. 'He's a father first,' another fan wrote in support. 'Who in their right mind is arguing against this?' asked someone else. Cora posted a photo on Instagram that showed more than a dozen family members celebrating Camila at her graduation on Monday. He wrote in his caption, #FamiliaEsFamilia, or #FamilyIsFamily.
