Dr Zaliha urges federal agencies to halt improper project extensions
Chairing the Federal Territories Development Action Council meeting in Putrajaya today, Dr Zaliha stressed that projects such as schools, hospitals, military housing, and other critical infrastructure related to national security must be expedited without compromise, as they involve the rights of the people.
'Contractors must be held accountable to the agreed timelines. There should be no room for excuses,' she said in a Facebook post today.
Dr Zaliha also revealed that under the 12th Malaysia Plan's Fifth Rolling Plan, a total of 648 physical and 320 non-physical projects have been recorded. Of these, 402 are in the pre-implementation stage, 461 are in progress, 104 have been completed and one has been cancelled.
She urged all relevant agencies to closely monitor the progress of projects under their jurisdiction and to refrain from approving any time extensions unless backed by clear, legitimate and well-documented justifications.

(Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The sessions court has fixed Sept 24 to deliver its decision in the sedition trial of blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, over a statement involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Wan Azri's lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, said the court fixed the date on Tuesday after the prosecution closed its case. Seven witnesses were called to testify. Wan Azri, 41, is accused of making the statement in a post on X, under the account sir_azri, at a condominium in Bukit Bintang at 12pm on April 29. If convicted under the Sedition Act, he faces a maximum fine of RM5,000, up to three years in prison, or both. The court is also expected to rule on July 9 in a separate sedition case involving Wan Azri. Malaysia, Italy to finalise G2G defence procurement deal
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Italy have agreed to finalise a government-to-government (G2G) defence procurement agreement, in addition to exploring a new agreement for joint logistics services between the armed forces of both nations. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this followed his bilateral meeting with Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto at the Defence Ministry in Rome. "Both countries renewed their commitment to further strengthening relations and taking existing defence cooperation to a higher level," Khaled said in a Facebook post. He also welcomed Italy's offer to share its expertise in underwater security, along with knowledge-sharing in telecommunications, satellite technology and cyberspace which are areas that would benefit both nations. Khaled's meeting with his Italian counterpart took place ahead of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official working visit to the Italian capital. Anwar is scheduled for a three-day working visit to Italy, where he hoped the visit would strengthen bilateral ties and deepen strategic cooperation, as well as to elevate Asean-European Union engagement in a challenging global landscape. Malaysia is currently awaiting its maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) built by Italian defence firm Leonardo S.p.A. where its construction is currently at 60 per cent progress. The acquisition of the ATR-72 MPA from Leonardo S.p.A was formalised during the 16th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima) in May 2023. It was part of a broader strategy under the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Capability Development Plan 2055, which envisions the procurement of six MPAs by 2035 in three phases.
