Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Cruise Into Second Round At Singapore Open
SINGAPORE, May 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's world number one men's doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, kicked off their Singapore Open campaign with an easy win over Taiwanese pair Lee Fang-Chih and Lee Fang-Jen at the Singapore Indoor Stadium today.
The professional duo needed just 32 minutes to secure a 21-13, 21-11 victory before a strong crowd of Malaysian supporters.
Sze Fei noted that they had great synergy throughout the game and will now focus on their next match against compatriots Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King, who earlier defeated the French pair Eloi Adam and Leo Rossi 21-13, 21-18 in 36 minutes.

Asked if being ranked number one boosted their morale, Nur Izzuddin said, for him, it's "just a number."
'We will focus on improving our game. We always have a target, but we just want to enjoy the match,' Sze Fei added.
Meanwhile, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik also advanced to the second round after defeating Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard of Denmark in a 48-minute battle.
The two-time Olympic bronze medalists won 21-19, 24-22 against the world number 16 pair, repeating their victory against the duo in the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters.
Wooi Yik noted that they made a number of unforced errors in the second set but was glad they were able to come back and clinch the win.
'On the first day, I was able to control the shuttle well. I'm happy to have regained focus in the second set,' he told the media.

The 19th ranked Taiwanese twins had shocked the top seeds by taking the first game, before the Malaysians made a comeback to win 17-21, 21-17, 21-14 at the Istora Stadium in Jakarta tonight. Sze Fei-Izzuddin had to labour for an hour before they sealed the match and booked their berth in the last 16. The Malaysians have faced setback after setback this year, failing to get past the quarter-final stage in various tournaments, including two first-round exits. The duo won three World Tour titles in 2023 and another three in 2024, but have not won a single one this year. Today's tie was Sze Fei-Izzuddin's seventh time facing the Taiwanese pair, with the Malaysians winning six of the encounters. In the last 16, Sze Fei-Izzuddin will take on their world No 22 compatriots Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, who staged an upset by beating the No 14 ranked Chinese duo of Xie Hao Nan-Zeng Wei Han 21-17, 21-12. Reigning champion Swiatek sets up French Open semi clash with Sabalenka
PARIS: Triple-defending champion Iga Swiatek set up a salivating French Open semi-final against world number one Aryna Sabalenka after marching past Elina Svitolina in the last eight on Tuesday. Swiatek bested 13th seed Svitolina 6-1, 7-5 in just over 90 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier to continue her bid to equal a 102-year record by winning four successive French Open titles. The Polish fifth seed will face Sabalenka in the semi-finals after the Belarusian earlier eliminated Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in straight sets. "Aryna is always a challenge, she has a game for every surface. I need to focus on myself, do the work and just go for it," said Swiatek. The former world number one has struggled for consistency since winning the clay-court treble of Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros in 2024, but can fall back on positive memories of playing and beating Sabalenka on the red dirt. "I don't know if she (Sabalenka) elevates my game. Against every player, we play different way, so it's hard to compare. But for sure our rivalry is pushing both of us," said Swiatek. You know, even though first set, the score looks pretty straightforward, it wasn't like that in any other games... I had to fight for every point," said Swiatek. "I'm happy that I also stepped up when she broke me in the second set and that I kept my intensity until the end."
