Sarina Wiegman: Future of 'incredible' Lionesses boss in question after FA chief's statement
FA chief Mark Bullingham has remained coy over the long-term future of Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman following England's Euros success. The Dutch manager remains under contract for another two years following the nation's Euro 2025 victory over Spain in Basel.
Wiegman succeeded Phil Neville in charge of the team in 2021 and his since guided the team to two European Championship wins and a World Cup final defeat. In January 2024 Wiegman signed an contract extension until 2027 that sees her through until after the next World Cup in Brazil.
But a plan to attempt to tie down Wiegman, 55, down for even longer is not yet in place. Chief executive Bullingham believes it is too early for any such notion.
"It's a bit early for that," he said when asked about potential contract talks. "We are delighted she is with us for the World Cup, and we will have that conversation at an appropriate time.
"She is an incredible manager, and we're delighted to be working with her, so that has to be up to her. We will have those conversations when they're ready to go."
Bullingham did have plenty of kind words to say about Wiegman however. "She's an incredible person, incredible coach and incredible leader," he said.
"We're very lucky to have her, proud to have her as part of the team, and obviously she will be working with us for the World Cup."
Bullingham has previously suggested it would not be difficult to convince Wiegman to remain in charge of the Lioness. The FA boss' focus then too was on her being under contract until after the World Cup however.
"Not hard at all," he said. "We are committed to her until 2027, and she is committed to us. We have a new [coaching] team coming in for her.
"We haven't quite started working on the plans for [the 2027 World Cup], but I know her focus, hopefully after success on Sunday, will shift quite quickly to that."
Wiegman will be afforded some time to celebrate Sunday's victory with her squad. An open top bus parade is set to take place on Tuesday afternoon along The Mall, with a staged ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace to follow.

Lionesses star fined for driving offence days after winning the Euros with England
England and Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating has been fined after being found guilty of driving without the correct tax just days after celebrating the Lionesses' Euro 2025 win Lionesses star Khiara Keating has been fined just days after she lifted the Euro 2025 title with England. Keating was part of the England squad that retained the Euros on Sunday by beating Spain on penalties in the final. However, just days after lifting the trophy in Basel, Keating was fined for not paying her car tax. On Wednesday, magistrates fined Keating £440 and ordered her to pay back duty of £79.17 and costs of £20 after she had been stopped for driving a Volkswagen Polo without the correct tax back in December. The 21-year-old did not attend Tameside Magistrates' court and the case was heard in her absence. Just a few weeks before the Euros began, Keating was cleared of drugs charges after Greater Manchester Police dropped them. Keating and her mother, Nicola, were charged last June with possession of the Class C drug nitrous oxide. They both pleaded not guilty and the charges were dropped in June. "I'm relieved the charges have been dropped — as I've always said, I did nothing wrong," Keating told the BBC. "It's been a difficult time, but I've always known the truth. Now I'm just looking forward to focusing fully on the Euros and spending time with my family." Keating did not play at the Euros with Hannah Hampton starring as first-choice goalkeeper, but she was an important part of the squad and was part of the jubilant celebrations that took place after they returned to the UK. A victory parade took place on Wednesday in front of more than 50,000 fans, with England captain Leah Williamson stating: "I'm holding back tears. I've been crying all down The Mall. "This is unbelievable, this is probably one of the best [things] we have ever been a part of, so thank you for coming out. "There are many ways to win a football match. And we repeatedly did it the hard way, but you can see how much we care about playing for England and how much we love it." Iurie Iovu knows where Dundee United priorities lie as he parks assault on Europe for Premiership opener
The Moldova international was the hero for Jim Goodwin's men in midweek Iurie Iovu insists the only Rapid that Dundee United are focused on is their Premiership start at Falkirk. Jim Goodwin 's side face Rapid Vienna next week in the Conference League but before then they are looking for a winning start in the league at the Bairns tomorrow. With two big European ties to come against Rapid, Iovu knows his team will need to up their game from Strassen but will go out to upset the odds. He added: 'We need to control the ball more and be cooler in possession. 'Rapid Vienna is a good team, I am delighted to have the chance to play against them. Anything can happen. 'There are lots of examples of smaller teams upsetting bigger teams, you never know. If you can show your qualities and give your maximum, all the possibilities are there.'
